  • Hi Dan,

There is a lot of sound advice on here and with determination you will get through it.

To help with the fiesta question why not think about what else you could spend the money on (when you're working again) instead of an "old ford". For instance a race prepped Ferrari 308 should be doable and the insurance for classics is dirt cheap.

  • Why not post up the new soa? It's a boost just seeing how well you have done in a couple of hours

Would you consider working a bar/pub/night club for some extra money?
You still get the fun of the atmosphere, can still chat to your mates, can watch the footie (or whatever) and you get paid for it in a bar/pub. Do the nightclubs and you can still have your pick of the drunk ladies at the end of the night. :j Doing this could save you the £100 entertainment money each month and bring in an extra wage of approx £70 just for the weekend in a club.

The fiesta is now not costing you anything so you can tinker away with it until you can afford to race again. People that race are very determined and focused. I hope you are to do what needs to be done.

Sell any spare parts that you definitly do not need. Sell any cd, dvd, shoes and clothes and see if you can make a dent in a credit card debt.
Sell the audi and you can have money and another saving on your car insurance. That will definitely dent the credit cards.

You can pay off your debts in two ways. You can choose to pay off the lowest balance first for moral at seeing a debt go. Or you can do it the mse way and pay off the one with the highest interest so it doesn't cost you more in the long run.

How much longer do you have on the loan? Are you paying just minimum payments on the credit cards. Do so for the time being until you can get some more cash injected into the soa.

Well done don't beat yourself up about it all.

    Hi Dan
that may be because you've finally admitted that your in a bit of a mess - so maybe not such a bad thing.

TotallyBroke has some good suggestions re making extra income from bar work?
    Is this something you'd consider?

I'd consider anything at the moment - have a few of my friends on lookout for jobs at the moment also put my CV on monster too.

    Heres hoping!
  • Good luck with sorting things out! Have been reading this thread with interest, and it's great to see how much you've already done in such a short space of time! Well done!!!! Hope you feel in better spirits soon, and are encouraged by the positive steps you're making.

Have you ever poured a pint. Although most clubs just do bottles now.
If you want help adapting your current cv to fit in with pub and club work pm me.

Don't just rely on friends get your cv adapted to suit any type of job and start handing them out. Get onto local restaurants what with valentine's day coming up. Some silly people will still splash out on that night. So they could be looking for extra staff that night.
Plus then there is St. Patrick's day coming up and the Rugby 6 nations and other sporting events.

Oh gosh I'm making myself pubsick. I loved working at these times of the year. Even Christmas and New Year were great. You got the same amount of fun, didn't have the hangover and got paid. Result!!!!
Might have to get myself back into it on a Saturday afternoon.

    Hi Dan!

Just wanted to say that if you are thinking of putting stuff on ebay to sell make sure you read the link on here about optimum times to list your stuff, how long to list if for and starting prices. I found it really helpful.

Also a friend of mine has sold bits of his car that he no longer needed (bluefin chip, cat back exhaust thingy etc) and got some good prices for them. What you may think is junk is another persons treasure. :D

    Good luck with everything.

I'm going to be around for quite some years  so I'll keep looking back to see how you are getting on.

Hi Dan - Just read your diary and thought I would say "well done!"

I started my diary about month after buying a brand new car (on finance!!) - you should have seen some of the comments about that! lol But I could rationalize my decision in that the insurance was that same as my old one (only 2.5 years old!) it was diesel and not petrol meaning my fuel consumption almost halved and I had no servicing or MOTs to worry about. Looking back now, if I had changed my car after my LBM, I would have gone for a cheap little run around and saved even more money! But what is done is done!!

Get those spare bits on ebay (def read up about top tips and hints on ebaying on here!) and start ploughing away at making some money! If you are more rural, could you do something like dog walking, chopping logs etc (only ideas!!)

Best of luck and with a little hard work you'll be DF and at an age where everything you have learned will stand you in good stead for the years to come (hark listen to me at the wise old (and poor) age of 28!!)

    start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225
end = Mon 28th Sept 2015 DEBT FREE!
I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!
