I'm starting to plan our small veggie plot for this year, and what we're going to grow in the green house. Decided that we'll probably grow the things which are expensive to buy, just need to decide what to do and how to tackle the sluggies
Lemon tree -- got you a parcel sorted out for willow - you want some veggies/flower seeds to put in there too?? PM me with anything you fancy growing and I can see if I can help out. You don't need alchohol half a grapefruit/orange any other bit fruit works (slugs like dark moist places so put them inot the greenhouse slightly propped over on one side they will hide in there duirng the dayas does any fruit juice or sugar water - ........)
SM - laughing at the drunken birdies at your patch and thanks for the glow report - its go great to see it really go down, just feel a bit silly now for not doing it sooner:rolleyes:
:A:A:A:A:A:Athank you for the smileys and the flowers - every time i try to use hystersisters - it doesnt work:rolleyes:
I Looooooooooooooooooove hunting for slugs.
Stripey socks very essential
Slugs are the great scape goats for all vent up anger and revenge.
Slugs are not your friend
Slugs do deserve to die
Any way at all is good.:DFire is crackling and popping
:D
Fave slug hunts and handy slug devices
Cutting in half with scissors (then you can see what they have been eating) and I keep special 'slug scissiors' - don't I know you lot are going to find that a bit odd
Dumping slugs in beer, then in the chickens all good
Fling the slug - bit like chuck a wellie but for slugs - remember to be outdoors when you do this, otherwise the slugs 'thwack' off the window.
Slug hunting and dumping slugs in the water trough in the greenhouse
Checking under stuff once a week (pots etc trays) - this is where they hide.
Keep some slugs in the freezer and make sure the OH knows - they keep in line that way soooooooooooooooo much better. He gets all twitchy.
I wrote an article once about the art of slug hunting
Haze doesnt like to touch them so she has special 'slug busting gloves' (old hair dye gloves)
HOwever be warned - walking out of your polytunnel at 8am with a can of tennant lager - NOT GREAT for the image - especially as I am more of a 'cava girl'
To add to my glowyness (sp?) I went food shopping and got so many bargains I am a very very happy bunny - (90% off) off the meat and cheese and stuff - local orkney sirloin steaks x2 for 98p, chicken breast dinnners 40p 3 bits stilton for 32p each and various bits and bobs shopping was under 23 quid woo hoo

Yippee! I'm so excited, have booked my own mini-break, to Amsterdam with a girly chum next month
Thanks to the Amex airmiles credit card, we're just paying for the hotel for 2 nights........oh and drinks (lots), dinners (lavish), touristy stuff...
Anyone been there and have any good tips? I'm not remotely fussed in seeing a load of laydeez of the night in shop windows and hopefully my friend doesn't want to go and get stoned in coffee shops.....I'm 99% sure she won't but you never know what might happen when two mid-to-late 30's old schoolfriends get together, lol.
I've been twice and had a great time both times. I think Anne Franks house is a must, very moving. And there is a great pancake shop just over the road from it.
One of my friends just went and they hired bikes and rode through some of the parks and had a great time.
There are some fun shops as well (not just dodgy shops!!)
Oh yes, the Heineken factory is lots of fun, they have a great tour which is really good! And you get some booze at the end.
I love art and they have fab museums like Rijksmuseum (traditional, Rembrandts etc), Van Gogh Museum and Stedlijkmuseum (modern art)
And a canal boat trip is a great way to see the city from the canals - the buildings are stunning and this is a perfect way to see them.
V. jealous of course, I love mini-breaks!!!I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills
And feed my interiors addiction0 -

I'd love to grow veg and things. When I was a kid I used to grow a different thing each year. I was into different veg so tried out okra, kohl rabi and my fave - white beetroot - tasted exactly the same but without the colour!
I know a few people who have allotments and maybe one day I'll be able to get one of my own! They are in high demand round here though.
I also love the idea of having bees as well......I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills

Yay, thank you makeup - sounds like we'll need more than 2 days, I love the sound of all of these places, love going to museums and looking at amazing buildings.
My parents have happily agreed to look after DD for the weekend and I might even get a lift to the airport, so a month tomorrow I'm outtahere
Will be staycationing for the rest of the year, so going to make the most of this weekend
Congrats on the overpayment, enjoy the euphoria and blow raspberries at nasty supervisors! Sorry if I've missed something, but why will your mighty tome have to be re-written in 2010?0 -
KK I am only in first year (of 3)
Most folks right the introduction chapter at the end of the thesis cos then you know what you have done and what's relevant.
Intro is about 5k words
Rest of thesis is to be about 100k words
