OS Daily Thurs 5th Feb 09

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Turs 5th Feb. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

Morning.
Woke up early and then worried that I had not closed up the chicken house last night. So I went out to check and sure enough I had'nt. So all safe and well now.
Who can go back to sleep then?
Got a few minor worries that are plaguing us. Nothing like the kind of things that some of you have, but annoying none the less. My car is off the raod waiting for a new alternator to arrive. The OH car, the ignition keys are failing fast, so I hope we can get one fixed asap. The stupid Ford keys wear away over the years and then won't turn at all. I just hope it holds out a few more days until I can get it sorted.

The snow forcast for today looks like it will be drizzle instead. Everything looks really messy.

Ham, egg and chips last night, so that took care of the left over ham.

Well, have a nice day, I guess some of you are getting several inches of snow... nice

N9eav - I used to have chickens. They were fantastic entertainment value, not to mention the lovely eggs for breakfast. However, our neighbour (whom everyone in the road calls 'Moron Man' coz he is so grumpy and anti-social) complained that they were attracting rats. The council came round to investigate and said they couldn't do anything for him unless I got rid of the chooks. Luckily, they were able to go to a friend of mine and join her flock. My, how I miss them. Just wait til I can get this house sold and moved - chickies here I come....

Weather is getting a bit better here - drizzly rain is melting the remains of the snow and ice.

Dinner last night was a Delia cheat - little pastry cases filled with salmon, broccoli and cheese plus salad (half price in the Co-Op). Tonight, lasagna which is currently sitting in the freezer.

    Have a good day y'all

    Morning all,

No snow here  , just drizzle, we may get some more back friday and saturday :j , I hope so, I do like throwing snowballs at the kids in the street :D .

N9eav, sorry to hear you are having troubles, hope it sorts itself out soon.

Just been watching GMTV, and there was an 83 yr old chap on there who tackled an armed robber in a betting shop, the rest of the young blokes sat and done nothing  , good for him, what a brave chap :T .

Off to work today, something with chips for tea, and we have a sainsbugs delivery soming tonight. Need to put a wash on and have a quick tidy, then off to work.

Hugs to Marie, moggins, diva, and anyone else in need.

I was intending to keep a few chickens, but after a string of complaints made to the council about me, the council recommended I didn't bother as I'd only have to get rid of them.
We've had a few inches of snow here overnight, I meant to be on a training course, not sure what to do, if I drive there & it's cancelled, I shall not be a happy bunny, if I don't go I lose £33 a month, not a lot I know, but it makes a lot of difference to us. I can't phone & check as they don't open til 9 when the course starts. According to the local weather forecast we've had no snow, maybe it would be better if they looked out the windows rather than just relying on the computers!
    MSD good news about Tristan.
Sybil I hope you are ok.
    Breakfast - porridge
    Lunch - corned beef sarnies
Tea - ham egg & chips
    Have a safe day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all

I'm another that can't sleep..too much running round in my head I suppose.

((((warm hugs)))) to all those that need them or are troubled, or who just want a hug

Dinner last night was a sandwish for DH and a cup of tea for me, I really didn't feel like either cooking or eating. I did take sausages out of the freezer for bangers and mash tonight, I really must make the effort and I have a ham hock in the SC to make a terrine with for tomorrow's dinner.

DH finally got his letter yesterday saying his job is at risk of redundancy which we kind of knew was coming, the consultation meeting with his manager is on Friday 13th:eek: . Only problem is we are booked to go to Malta for a week on Feb 16th and if DH is going to be out of a job then I really don't want to spend the extra money going. Even though it is paid it is SC and you still spend an awful lot of money extra travelling to the airport and so on. If I knew for certain I would cancel it. Insurance will only pay out of there is a definate redundancy letter. Bah I just really don't know what to do atm.

Hmm..My handle should change to moaning minnie I think

Nm I guess I just have to pick myself up, shake myself down and decide what we are going to do financially as we have a loan which finishes in October and a car loan yet, I really don't want to even contemplate getting rid of the car as this will become a real necessity in the future.

Im getting really worried about Sybil..has anyone heard from her or can msn her?

    Mel xxxx

'Morning everyone :D Just popping in before breakfast and then travelling to work.

Hope your car hangs on N9eav - I always do a fingers crossed job when that happens. I would love some chucks too, they are part of my retirement plan. In the mean time we look after a neighbours when they go on holiday :D

Was up nice and early doing the packed lunches and preparing some bits for the wild birds. Tonight it will be pork chop with 'something' ... meaning I haven't thought about it yet

We had new snow yesterday, but none yet today. The forecast is for 2 to 5 cm of snow - hopefully the roads will stay clear.

Have a lovely OS day everyone :D

Good morning everyone. N9eav - I hope things get better for you soon; there's nothing worse than having a lot of things niggling at you at the same time. Glad you made sure your chickens were safe from harm.

Lillibet - how sad that you had to get rid of your chooks. You must really miss them.

Redruby - we, too, have drizzle today. It started to snow at about 10.30 last night but I could tell it wouldn't last. I shall miss the look of the snow but not driving in it!

Well, I called in at the Co-op yesterday afternoon; they are revamping it and it's going to be really great when it's finished but it was difficult finding everything. I managed to get some YS chicken and stewing steak. Yesterday, we ended up with chicken curry because I'd left it too late to make a casserole. Today we are having Galette au Chou - a recipe using cabbage and bacon that I found yesterday. It looks really tasty so I shall report back if it's a success, and keep my mouth shut if it isn't! I also need to make some sort of jam sponge or something for afters.

Today, I just have to write and post a couple of letters and then the rest of the morning will be taken up with work. This afternoon, I shall be treating myself to a sit down (more than likely a snooze) , before tacking some more work. The house seems to have stayed quite tidy with little attention from me this week. I have not used the TD all week and have managed to dry everything on the airer in the spare room. I am determined not to use the TD unless we're absolutely desperate for something.

Well, I'd better go and get DH up for work - he's working locally this week; it makes such a change for him not having lots of driving to do or so much fuel to get through. Time and money-saving, all in one go!

Well, I'll call back later. (((Hugs))) to all in need.

The snow has finally arrived in Worcester:j :j All my kids have the day off. I'm so glad I decided to do my shopping yesterday. OH gone to work as the M5 is clear. We're looking forward to a day of these :snow_laug :snow_grin

I'll get some beans on toast in a minute to stoke them up before they go out in the snow.

Lunch is ham sandwiches (made yesterday -might add cheese and toast them). I'll probably find some soup in the freezer too.

I've got a bit of mince from my organic meat box defrosting for tea. It's only about 485g so I'll have to stretch it, chilli seems a good idea today.

I need to clean the bathroom and loo, hoover everywhere, cook a packet of borlotti beans I soaked last night, do some laundry, make some bread and possibly some gingerbread. I expect we'll go for a walk in the white stuff at some point too;)

Edited to say (and how on EARTH did I miss this?!): Happy birthday to Churchmouse!!!! :bdaycake:

mudgekin (((hugs))) to you and your DH.

Sorry I've been MIA again. However, today I've been given an unexpected day off. The school that I teach in has been closed for today as most of the teachers (including me) can't get in due to the snow. The neighbouring junior school has also been closed. I was contemplating making the journey, but that was before I looked to see that if I did get my car out, then I probably wouldn't actually get back home at the end of the day as it's still snowing now, quite heavily. Nor can I walk to work as it's 17 miles away. Anyway, I've got some school work to do (no rest for the wicked ;)) and my library book to finish before tomorrow.

My mum had her latest appointment yesterday and they haven't found any more cancerous cells - and definitely none in the lymph nodes as they've all been cut out - so it's next stop chemo for her! She is so relieved as this is the first bit of "good news" that she's had over the past 3.5 months. A big thanks to JackieO who has been so supportive towards me and my mum.

I suppose I'll have time today to create a decent meal plan that doesn't feature beans on toast every night. I WAS going to do a "big shop" on my way back from school, but that will just have to wait. I may well slip and slide down to the centre of my little town and get some provisions.

Have a good, safe day everyone.
