Best and Worst place you have been to?

Venice is my favourite place in the world, apart from home, of course.
We have been there twice, at Easter. The first time my heart sank at the crowds in St Mark's Square, but once off the beaten track, every corner you turn gives a beautiful sight. We've always found the people to be friendly, especially when we stayed near the hospital, with a school and shops for locals nearby.
But I do agree with poster who said that experiences can make or break you view of a place. OH and I were too tired to enjoy Las Vegas - we'll have to go back!Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

Best:
Florida: Including Miami South Beach - has shopping, fantastic beaches and nightlife on the doorstep.Turkey: Best people anywhere, always help without expecting tips. Avoid the spoilt, drunken Brit areas of the most "popular" resorts.
Hong Kong: Excellent transport between city and countryside. Wide range of city and countryside/beach sights. High standard hotels. Extremely clean and efficient.
France: For beautiful natural scenery and wide range of climate and scenery.
Venice: For even better than imagined guidebook architecture and public canal transport. Easily possible for a day trip!
Havana, Cuba: For the crumbling mansions, transport in vintage cars and beautiful beaches, and the mojitos!
Ibiza: Ibiza Town for character and people watching, avoid West End, San Antonio. Beautiful beaches.
Worst:
Rome: Overated food - didn't even find a decent pizza!, unfriendly, horrendous roads without crossings between sights.
Gran Canaria: Playa del Ingles - run down, concrete, shopping malls; unsafe - seedy characters on the beaches, hassle on streets and in fake electrical goods shops.0 -
Best: Crimea; Siberia and the Russian Far East
Worst: English 'resorts'; London; Venice0 -
tell us more on and about Crimea never met anyone who has been:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Best: Florence, the Culture, art and history of Paris or London, packed into a city smaller than Derby.
Worst: Probably The Hague. Probably worth a day of your time only.
However, there are places i know I wouldn't like, so I don't even consider going there. These include Las Vegas, most of Australia and the unaccountably popular Dubai...0 -

Its amazing how different peoples experiences are. We hated Cairo - stinking, filthy city - felt really unsafe and ripped off everywhere.
We actually turned the tables on the local taxi driver who tried to rip us off by ripping him off. Long story but he took us to his 'friends shop' who pressurised us into spending money for nothing - needless to say we did not spend any money. The taxi dropped us off at the pyramids and we agreed to meet him 3 hours later at the Sphinx. We whipped through the pyramids in 1 hour and got another cab - thus the first cabbie did not earn anything out of us and I hope he is still waiting there for us now!!0 -
Best - Port Douglas, Aus, and Zion NP, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley and Grand Teton andYellowstone NPs in the US. Breathtaking natural wildernesses and fabulous wildlife.
Honourable mentions to Malta - have been 3 times (twice in Novembers) - it's dusty, a bit crazy, fascinating history and beautiful buildings, and great 5-star accommodation. And I'm a long way off 60. Also Newfoundland, Banff National Park in Canada and Antelope Canyon in Arizona.
UK, it's the Scottish highlands every time.
Worst - Paris - overpriced, unfriendly, crummy accommodation, lousy food and ripped off on more than one occasion. Grand Canyon - overrated - a total disappointment and not nearly as impressive as Arches or Canyonlands NPs. Kamloops - totally uninspiring. The Netherlands - no character, not even in Amsterdam. UK - Edinburgh and London. Both overpriced, pretentious and unfriendly.0 -
Best....Greek Islands in the Peloponnese, lovely friendly people, relaxed lifestyle
Worst....England, especially London, Overpriced and poor service, full of foreigners, ignorant, unfriendly, seedy place.0 -

For one minute I thought you meant Derby was a place to visit  Derby always looks at it's best from a window of an Intercity 125 when it flys through the station without stopping0 -
Best - Florida, Cyprus (lovely people) Dominican Republic
Worst - Tunisia***** on the road to debt freedom *****
