Don't most monitors only have VGA or DVI inputs? How do you connect a SCART? Or HDMI?
HDMI and Dvi are virtually the same electrically, just physically different. You can get adapters and cables to connect the two. For sound you will need extra leads if the monitor has speakers and audio inputs. Some HDMI and DVi inputs also carry sound.
Google around to find out what is possible, as each setup will be different, depending on makes of set top box and monitor. Plus to see what others have done.ac's lovechild0 -
Sainsbury's have a 26" Toshiba LCD for £249 in store. This is my second post ever, and my second about sainsbury's! I'm not sponsored by them or anything, I just happened to be in there today....0

Prices at the moment are significantly higher than they were at Christmas.
The Sony 32V4000 32" LCD was available everywhere in late December for the princely sum of £349 (£299 at Richer Sounds). It has now gone back to around £400.
Correct me if I'm wrong ..... but the market is probably even more quiet than it was back then. Perhaps the braver souls amongst us might try to haggle the price back down to 2008 level?
Oh ... and all the reviews say that its a very good set.
Personally I would steer clear of all the "never heard of them" manufacturers.
There's a lot of rubbish out there.
Good luck!
Sony put there prices up by around 20% in November as the prices they were charging were no longer sustainable as, if you remember, there was a huge hike in fuel and raw material prices last year. The effect was Sony and many other manufacturers were selling sets at a loss.
The prices now are refelecting the true cost of manufacture at the current time.0 -
You need a set top box with HDMI and a monitor with Dvi or HDMI input.

HDMI carries sound DVI doesn't.
DVI stands for Digital Video Interface. You will need a seperate connection lead for audio.0 -
Sorry slipped my mind, thanks for pointing that out. Quite a few do have tinny small ones, however if no speakers in the monitor, you can pick up amplified speakers for pcs cheap from around a fiver, 2.1 are great for movies. Loads of second hand ones around as well.
To "save a few quid" instead of purchasing one tv with freeview built in, you will need 3 items each with seperate power supplies and connection cables.
Don't forget the freeview box remote will not switch of the monitor or speakers so you will need to get out of bed to switch them off at night!0 -
I guess you're all aware of this deal currently in Sainsburys?
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/334279/37-toshiba-37xv553db-full-hd-1080p-/
I've bought one & been impressed so far - using it as the primary display for my PC(it's like sitting infront of a video wall!)
Obviously it's a fair bit more than the no-name brands; but cheapest of the big-brand 1080p 37" TVs by a long way.
Personally, I think it's a mistake on the part of Sainsburys - I think they intended to be selling the 37av553 (720p) at this price, not the 37xv553 (1080p).
Not that i'm going to complain =D0 -
Warning!
I've been searching for a new LCD tv for quite a few months (I'm waiting for Sony's 40V4000 to get below £500 before I spend some hard saved cash!).
Today I was searching using google and came across the following website http://uniontechpc.com. DON'T USE THEM!.
The prices seemed a little too good to be true, so I did some research and found that the domain for the website is regstered to an individual (not a company), the website only went live at the end of Jan 09 and that their registered 'company' address is actually a house (I looked using google earth) - all very suspect
This is obviously just my opinion - Just thought I should inform people of what I've found out.0
