Panasonic TX-32LZD80 32" LCD Television now £449 (Was £600):j
Get it while you can, offer ends Bank Holiday Monday.
Easy to install, just needed a few minor tweaks with the picture settings, made simple by following step-by-step instructions from George Lucas' THX Optimiser, found on numerous dvd's, including Star Wars Episodes 1-6, Cars, Finding Nemo, & The Incredibles.
Beautiful picture & sound, can't fault it at all.
Receives a full 5* rating from What Hi-Fi? Sound&Vision Magazine:
"A 1920 x 1080 resolution, Full HD LCD TV of just 32 inches, with 24fps compatibility. The TX-32LZD80 is par for the accomplished-and-desirable flatscreen course. The standard of build is competitive, the finish compact and attractive, and three HDMI inputs will keep the Blu-ray/console/Sky HD crowd happy.
Where the ergonomics of remote control, set-up menus and EPG are concerned, the 'LZD80 continues the good work of Panasonics past. They are straightforward, well thought-out and comprehensive.
Packing both analogue and digital TV tuners, pictures from either are crisp, detailed and natural. Movement presents no significant problems, edges are generally stable and contrasts are handled with assurance.
Standard definition content (in this instance our trusty DVD of Training Day) is equally impressive: the '80 produces nice deep blacks and doesn't scrimp on the details. It's adept at motion-tracking, poised with skin tones and textures, and the overall image is immersive and convincing.
Pictures from the 3.10 to Yuma Blu-ray are delightful: generous levels of detail, even in the brightest or darkest scenes, brilliantly smooth edges and wide-ranging, natural colours. Depth of field impresses too, and motion is gripped with authority."

Not an LCD, but I can't find a topic for plasmas! Just saw one of these in Tesco last night and the picture's pretty good on them. Reduced (temporarily or permanently, I don't know) to under £400 and with a decent number of connections, although it could do with more.
It's "HD Ready", not full 1080 but for the price it's not bad. My only concern would be the budget brand. Having said that, my old DVD player from Tesco (the rebadged Wharfdales - remember them?) was the best one I ever owned!0 -
Sorry to say, but you can't. This isn't a fault with the TV, it's how the technology works. Your video recorder is designed to take in a terrestrial signal from your aerial then pass it back out to the TV. It simply cannot recognise a digital signal so can't do anything with it.
You should be able to play back stuff you've already got recorded, most easily by connecting the video via one of the SCART sockets (very large plug, about 1.5"x0.5") but you can't record digital TV without the correct equipment.
This is another thing the nice government didn't bother to mention when they decided to force us all onto digital fro next year...
Thank you for the reply.
Our VCR has been working with our other digital TVs with no problem. It records and playbacks all digital TV programmes with sound and picture. Anyway we have sent back the Tesco TV, and bought a Grundig from Argos instead. It has been working OK with our VCR. What a relief. At least we know it was not due to our ignorance towards modern technology.
Thanks again.0 -

Correct me if I'm wrong ..... but the market is probably even more quiet than it was back then. Perhaps the braver souls amongst us might try to haggle the price back down to 2008 level?
I knew it! I didn't think I was imagining it. Does anyone else feel that prices are now higher than they were a few months ago? Should I wait a bit longer before parting with my hard earned money then?0 -
I wasn't sure if this was a good buy so I hesitated (idiot). Argos were doing a 42" Hitachi (2 actually but one was showing out of stock) for £449 yesterday, however today it seems to have gone back uo to £587.They have started a new promo though not for the 42". Do you think they will come back down again? Or does anyone know of the best deals around for a 42" with decent spec and name.0

I Dont think Mosh is correct, you should be able to record what you are watching via the " Video Out" scart socket. Most TVs have 2 scart sockets, Video In and Video Out. I believe the instructions are not very good for this set. The problem could be that the Video Out is set to RGB and probably needs to be set to " Composite Video" for your VHS machine to recognise.
Mosh is thinking of PVRs which can only record the digital signal, but your TV will decode the digital signal to standard 625 line video to be displayed on the screen and that is the stuff your recorder needs.

I have brought two tv's from Ebuyer and found both sets well worth the money. They are delivered the next day as well. But some sets have a 3 year guarantee some only one so do your homework.Looking at their Laptops now.Martin Lewis should be knighted:money:

Below applies to: MSE/deals/cheap-LCD-HDTV page
I've just called Richersounds Customer care. A representative said none of their shops have the Toshiba 32XV555 in stock atm, and their warehouse doesn't either. They are awaiting a delivery from Toshiba, and ETA is unknown
However representative did say that the LG 32LG3000 is in stock at some of their stores.
(Both as of 14:30 GMT today).

update on above
STill waiting for Argos Hitachi to come back down but in the meantime have seen the Sony 40" on Tesco Direct for £488.
This is not as good a spec as the Hitachi (I dont think?) as it not the full HD?
I dont have Blueray or Sky HD (but do have HD on my laptop). do you think the Sony is a good buy or will I regret it later on.
Thanks in advance0 -

Quite a few good deals on this site, including a 19" LCD TV HD Ready for £99.95!!! Only 1 catch! No internet purchasing on most TVs and delivery is extra (ok 2 catches:money:), although you can buy and pickup instore if you are fortunate to live near one or are going to be passing (by) one, storemap and delivery charges here> richersounds.com/information/deliveryinfo
Apparently I'm too new to post links so add www. before these to see the offers and other info
Finally I just noticed this on the site "Some of these web prices may be cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online." And I think it's best to ring first to check availability too.
Hope this is helpful to a few of you :-)0
