I think it right to ask for the bill to be corrected. After all it's an error and should be made right.0

The pain of a £10 loss will help you to remember in future to be more careful.
You will save much more than £10 in the coming years by being more diligant.
In the meantime you should use the opportunity to play the rich man rather than Scrooge McDuckNice to save.0 -
Why tip anyway? I worked in restaurants for over 8 years and still dont understand.
In USA OK, In UK no way.0 -
I hate the idea of tipping in restaurants. I simply don't care about the service as they are simply doing their job and they get paid for it, and if it is the owner you are dealing with they are getting a "tip" from the profit margin from your food.
I simply don't care if the hospitality industry isn't particularly well paid, if they don't want to earn so little then do another job where you earn more. I go out of my way in my office based job every day and despite the promise of a bonus the topsy turvy money market means it wasn't paid this year.
I experienced this gratuity nonsense in TGI Fridays recently, all you have to do to avoid paying too much is not put any gratuity in the handset and leave a couple of quid if you really feel its necessary. I never tip over £2, and I very rarely carry any cash anyway so have no problem walking out and leaving nothing.
Sorry but that's just the way it is.0 -
I always tip in cash so I know the waiter/server will definitely get it. In this case though I would chalk the £10 down to experience.0

I kinda agree with Taytay, I used to work as a waitress when I was younger and we would never expect tips. We do get a wage like everyone else after all, we are not working for the love of the job -(thats for sure!!
)
If you tip at a restaurant, should you tip a shop assisstant too if they were helpful, or a teacher who helped you learn something....err no, they are just doing their job!
Sounds a bit mean, but I can't afford to give my cash away. Every penny counts!0 -
1. I dont use a credit card in a restaurant anyway
2. Even if I did, there is no way I would ever put a tip on the payment
3. If I did, then no. I would not ask for it back. Its my mistake so deal with it. I cannot afford to "lose" £10 either, but if I am that skint, I shouldn't be at the restaurant in the first place!0 -

Sorry Mrs Moc, but in my experience, it gets put into a pot and split between a bout a million people (including kitchen and bar staff) so in the end (maybe a Christmas) you see very very little of your share. IF you took it for yourself (even if you did all the work, it is frowned upon, and might even get you into trouble!) Harsh but true!0 -
I always tip in cash to stop the company taking the tip - it should go to the staff not the company.0
