Retraining my hubby

  • OH and I work quite well together, after some teething troubles. But I have just started a re-training session.

He moaned at me yesterday because if we have something a bit sticky for tea I will soak the plates, dish, or whatever in the sink before putting them in the dishwasher. I tell him the dishwasher does not SCRUB.

He did scrambled eggs in a pyrex jug yesterday, did not soak or get the worse off, and it has now come out of the dishwasher with bits on. I have pointed it out plenty of times before. We have 2 jugs so I have hidden one for my use and when he comes to want one, which will be quite soon as he does a lot of the cooking, he will have to wash it.

Would not have minded too much if he had not moaned at me.

If they dont suffer the consequences, they dont change.
  • Really enjoyed this thread and feeling glad to have a semi-trained OH!

My OH didn't realise some things needed doing and just didn't notice. It is a bit of an odd solution but we got a whiteboard and if a DIY/OH type job crops up it gets written on the board and then gets done in his timescales not mine. Before I'd ask nicely, he'd say yes, I'll do it soon but keep forgetting and eventually I'd blow my top. I do make an effort to notice and say thank you when it gets done and make a real effort to be patient rather than expect it will be done immediately. It helped us a lot.

The more one does, the less the other has to.....

thank God my DH and I have evolved a bit over the years,...we used to be a right messy pair but things simply had to get better when DD was born.:o

DH used to wash enough dishes to 'last us the weekend' then promise to do the rest on the Monday...:rotfl: Then we got a dishwasher and he's good at loading that up. That's a 'man' job in this house.
It's me that does all the cooking, so I never have a chance to do it tomorrow, but when it comes to ironing I'll happily postpone it for weeks at a time, only doing what I have to...it's all clean clothes, so doesn't smell, sits in the spare room, so no-one sees it bar us...;)

My OH is hopless,if he gets home before i'm up ( i work nights )he attemps to wash up the only trouble is I have to redo it all he dos'nt do it properly. He never touches the garden he hates it luckly it's only small.I've banned him from using the washing machine he just sticks everything in never bothers to sort for colours.I really don't mind him not helping much even though we both work ft he never ever moans if I hav'nt cooked or if theres no shirts washed ironed etc if there's no cooked meal for him he never says a word just makes hisself a sarnie. He does always make sure my car has petrol and mot etc ,if I ask him to put bin out he will but would never think of it hisself .He's really laid back.I do wish he would be more MS like not filling kettle right up for just one cup of coffee  I spent eight years married to somebody who was obessed with cleaning I walked round with a cloth in my hand just incase there was any dirty marks anywhere he would come home and wreck the house and me if the bottles in the cupboard weren't in order I lived in fear give me my helpless OH any day

Well I finall tackled my DH on Saturday.

I was at uni all day and came home and did myself a jacket potato. I was sat there eating it and DH said "You could have put me one in" and I didnt know whether to laugh or shoot him an evil look.

He then proceeded to root around the cupboards in the kitchen saying there was nothing in to cook when in fact there was plenty. He ended up having a bowl of cereal!

When we went out with friends later in the evening, he had the audacity to say "I didnt even get my tea cooked tonight". Well, that did it for me!

I simmered down and said to him that I am going to teach him to cook a meal and yesterday I showed him how to cook it, and it came out fine! I think I will have to show him a few more times just so he gets the hang of it but I felt great that I have started this.

I also got him to agree that we both be responsible for 2 rooms each in our flat. Lucky for me he chose the rooms I wanted him to (as he leaves those in a mess), so we'll see if he can keep them tidy. Might make him realise what he asks of me sometimes :)
