MSD - where in Torbay are you? I live in Surrey now but I'm originally from Newton Abbot!

Gym is closed, as is the whole of the university, so I'm stuck indoors  may do some cleaning while I'm line-learning - although my housemates are yet to be convinced by the wonders of white vinegar :p Apparently the smell goes away if you leave a lemon in the room - anyone know if that works? I'm also going to attempt to bake some bread today for the first time:eek: Don't have any yeast but some of my friends make bread without it, so I'm going to try and find a recipe for non-yeasty bread.

    Wish me luck!

    Afternoon peeps

lots of snow here but it`s nice and sunny at the moment. I drove to w*rk yesterday and it`s as well that i did or i would have never got home last night. The busses went off at tea time and it was taking people 5 + hours to travel a couple of miles

This is the first time that i`ve ever driven in snow and i was scared stiff :o i got out of w*rk at eleven last night and drove a way home that i`ve never been, hardly got out of second gear and the car was sliding about all over. It was eerily quiet. If anyone has read Stephen Kings "The Langoliers" you will know what i mean. Today i can get to w*rk by bus or carefully by car and i think that i shall opt for the car in case we get stuck later. If it gets icy later i can decide whether or not to leave it and walk. I did walk once befre and it took me four and a half hours but that was in daytime, i don`t fancy it around midnight

The houndies have been for a nice walk and we lost yet another ball in the snow  little doggies nose dosen`t seem to be able to find the ball in the snow and she looks puzzled when the ball dosen`t bounce, she looks so funny :D

Tru - The fat balls comment had me in bits :rotfl:

Sistercas - Same pants  rofl, maybe someone can get the knitting needles out and whip her up a quick pair :D

I`m off for a quick shower and then back to w*rk

    Take care peeps.

    SD

PS Diva - My friend is in Torbay and sent me some pics yesterday, it looks lovely
Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

Hi all. I've had a laugh about the 'fat balls' and knitted knickers! Reminded me of when I asked some friends to come and look at my t*ts in the garden. I meant blue tits, of course, but I've never lived it down!

Christabel - now that you've posted, you are no longer a lurker! Welcome to you - you'll enjoy it here!

Tru - what fantastic new about DH's job. However bad your luck has been, this must be very welcome and could be the start of a change of luck for you.

Sunnygirl - good luck to DD's BF. How wonderful that you are helping; sometimes it's all these poor youngsters need - someone who genuinely cares for them.

    MSD - (((hugs))) to Tristan.

Smoky - hope the LOs are enjoying the snow.
PenPin and Mrs Mix - I hope you are both having better days today.

Csarina - ouch! Hope you get the tooth sorted out soon.
Well, I've walked up the road to get some milk, dodging all the snowballs from the neighbourhood children who are all enjoying the day of schoo. All along the pavements, people have made snowmen on the grass verges and they all look fantastic. The snow came down thick and heavy this morning, then the sun came out and the sky turned blue, and now we have this strange mixture of snow and ice that's not quite settling. I'm glad DH is only working locally today and tomorrow.

Well, I'd better go and decide what to have for lunch.

    Keep warm and safe, everyone.

Fry a large onion, chopped, in 1oz of butter, when softened but not brown add 1oz of plain flour, stir through and cook for a min, add a pint of milk a little at a time, stirring constantly, then add 1/4 pint of stock (made with half a stock cube), teaspoon of mustard, 2oz cheese (think nannaC's version used a mild cheese, so I just added 1oz of strong cheddar).

This is really really filling, makes enough for two people, and you don't even need bread with it!

Oh my goodness, I have just made this, and thank you its delishmost :T , going to have some for lunch, i doubled up, so OH has some for work for the rest of the week, I also added a large tea spoon of wholegrain mustard, and it tastes great, so thanks to you and nannaC.

I have also hoovered through, mopped floors, cleaned bathroom, made beds, and made a minced beef and onion pie for tea, preped tomorrows dinner, and done the spuds and vegies, phew, am going to have lunch break now

DD phoned from school in disgust only her and two others made it in this morning :D , half of the teachers did not get there, they should have some good one on one teaching today ;) .

Well done to Mr Tru on his new job, perhaps he should see a Dr regarding his fat balls :D , my OH certainly has not got fat ones :rotfl:

Hugs to those in need, and for those that have slipped on the ice, ouch!! take care.

    OH's van passed its mot :T :T

    Take care all xx

Edited to say, squigly, thanks for asking after nephew the other day, he is doing ok, and has been placed in a home in Guildford, which specalises in boys with his needs, they have said that he will be there for at least 2 years, and have promised to get him through at least one GCSE, which is amazing as he can only just about read, hopefully this will do him the world of good x

    Hi Folks

Just had a quick skim of the posts ((((((hugs)))))) to all who need them.

Well my morning has been spent letting builders, plasterers, decorators, etc traipse through my house! Trying to get some quotes together to sort out the work that needs done from our flood.

Had appointment with the podiatrist this morning which was a bit of a waste of time to be honest with you but hey. I also joined the library!! Came home with two lovely novels and two nice cook books. Was greeted by a not so nice letter from work however telling me that from 11th Feb my wages would be cut to half (I am off sick at the minute) Have to idea how we are going to manage, feel physically sick when I think about it but will need to drag my head out of the sand and get life in general sorted out!

OS today...........Toasties for lunch (yum yum!) and going to make chicken and pasta bake for dinner. Going to have to be seriously OS now so will need all the help and encouragement (swift kicks to the backside) I can get!

Hope all is well with you all

That's rubbish Loopy, hope you get something sorted. It's bad enough being ill but it's a real kick in the teeth when they cut your pay.

    Afternoon all,

DGS2 school closed to-day, about 6/7 inches snow here so only OH has ventured out...he needed a paper! Still snowing on and off, bright in between but very cold, think that we are to have more snow later.

Hugs to all in need or want, keep warm, even with heating on here I am sitting with a wrap around me, must get on and make beef stew for dinner later, had breakfast and lunch in one meal a while ago so will be fine now until 6 or 7pm.

turfy...I do indeed know what you mean....at least you won't be cold, I wish I had a pallet of turf anywhere near, not much used here now as it is so ashy, but still love the smell of a turf fire....when children were young we used to buy about 10 tons every year and it was great!

Hugs to those who have fallen...taplady and someone else, take it easy, bones break much more easily in this kind of weather...well done to those who have decided to stay indoors...know that its not possible for everyone, was just on to daughter in London and DGD1 who is four to-day has gone to school with rice krispie buns for everybody, even though footpaths are treacherous!

Going to knit all afternoon I think, once stew in on, might cook it in oven as OH wants another weetabix cake so could make two of them and everything could do at the same time....hmmm, better get off my asset and get everything going.

    Stay safe all,

    Marie

    Morning people

Lots more snow down in West Sussex. Am supposed to be working this afternoon, but not sure that I am brave enough to drive the 10 mile drive, plus it will be evening when it's time to come home

I have done a few loads of washing and using TD, having egg n chips for lunch and need to sort out the utility room as well as squeezing out a few hrs worth of work. Am gonna do a curry in the slow cooker for dinner for me and the other one!

    Afternoon all :hello:

Everybody's in such a good mood today - what a perky thread :)

r.mac, poor you, I can't believe you're still pregnant - I was sure you must have had it by now! Are you going to be induced?

Penny-Pincher!!, you've clearly got DD trained well :D

tru - FAB news about Mr Tru's job, and good advice there from halight - an old head on young shoulders. But then the same goes for a lot of us :D

redruby - too much information :rotfl:

Still snowy here in South/Central London - we've had a few flurries this morning but most people have made it into the office at least. None of our directors, of course - just us underlings  It was actually a bit harder to walk into work today than yesterday because yesterday the safest place to walk was in the car tracks in the road, whereas today there was quite a bit of traffic about. Managed not to go A over T though :D There were some buses running, but given that I usually walk anyway, and came out of my front door to the familiar sight of a bus pulling away from the bus stop and disappearing down the road, it was probably faster to walk.

I have posted some pics of yesterday's snowy scenes on Facebook if anybody's interested. (Incidentally, if you have requested me as a friend on Facebook and I've ignored/rejected you, then it's nothing personal, please try again, just add a message to say who you are on MSE, as I don't add people unless I know who they are. I've never "intentionally" rejected a friend request from an OS poster.)

I can't believe the overreaction in the media to the snowy weather - surely there are more important things to report? Overheard in Tesco yesterday on the way home from work, young woman asking boyfriend "What else can we stock up on - we could be stuck like this for days!" Felt like saying No you won't, it's central flippin' London, you're not in the North Pole!

Tonight I'm making a green fish curry out of the Anjum Anand book and will have it with basmati rice. Had a very non OS supper yesterday - fresh Tesco Finest pumpkin ravioli which I picked up RTC (but not reduced by much!) I was really tired and lethargic yesterday evening and didn't have the energy to cook properly  so was quite pleased in the end that the opera performance I was supposed to be at was cancelled. I was meant to be reviewing it so the press office are trying to reallocate all the critics to alternative performances.

    Love Rzl xx
