  • Good morning, everyone.
I am off work again because the older boys' school is still closed. Yesterday was such a joyful day. All the kids in our street had a big snowball fight. They all go to different schools and don't really play out together but yesterday the whole street was out enjoying the snow. It was levely to see. OH finished work early and we joined in. I was brought up in Canada and I love the snow. It always brings back memories of my brother and I playing in the snow as children. London came to a standstill yesterday and families had fun, everyone looked so happy. It was a weelcome respite from all the gloom and doom.

I am going to finish my coffee and tidy up then do some of my course work. DS, 11, is going bowling later with a friend. Not sure what my lovely teenager is planning.

Tiff - just seen your post, the recipe for cheese and onion soup is easy peasy and curtesy of nannaC!

Fry a large onion, chopped, in 1oz of butter, when softened but not brown add 1oz of plain flour, stir through and cook for a min, add a pint of milk a little at a time, stirring constantly, then add 1/4 pint of stock (made with half a stock cube), teaspoon of mustard, 2oz cheese (think nannaC's version used a mild cheese, so I just added 1oz of strong cheddar).

This is really really filling, makes enough for two people, and you don't even need bread with it!

    Mornin' all.....

You've certainly made me chuckle everyone!! Lit candles again last night and *huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugs* for anybody who wants one - especially the babies!!!!! I love babies, but they scare me!

OS today is making beef stew in the SC - I'm kind of new to this OS malarky, but I really like it - it's a bit addictive, isn't it? It's very icy today, and I'm wary of going out because I'm quite good at falling a**e over t*t

Plan for today - gym (if I can face going out and it's open), do my vocal exercises and carry on working on my repetoire, learn my lines for the play I'm in, tidy and clean my room, and cancel my credit-check membership (at the end of the free trial)

Have a good day everyone

Well I seemed to have gained several small girls who are all "FREEEEEEEZING"! Have stuck the wii on so they can jump about! Looks like the hoovering won't be happening quite yet!

Have just spoken to kids' dad, he did make me laugh! He was driving up the M6 yesterday about 7.30am, having driven up from Brighton. Anyway he got a call from a girl who works for him saying that the snow was so bad that she wouldn't be in the office or be able to make any of her meetings, according to her Manchester was cut off from the world and the M6 was at a standstill! Imagine her surprise on finding her boss was on said M6, approx 2 miles from her house, and offered to give her a lift!!!!! She made it in!

  • Morning friends,

Well, I spoke too soon yesterday, we are in the same situation as N9eav - Torbay has snow!! It has been years since we have had significent enough snow for it to settle.

Yesterday it was sunny through until about 1530 and then it became grey and by 1630 it was snowing and laying down. And it's still a christmas wonderland out there now! my Oh who had to get up and go to work at 0600 rang me to tell me it was -4 and it's now just 1 degree out there and despite the sunshine, it's snowing again!

Tru - congrats to Mr Tru that is fabulous news. by the way,I read your post about the birds on the fat balls to my OH and he fell around laughing too - definately 12 yrs old!
Kath - still thinking of your dad.
christabell - We can see you lurking you know... :rotfl:

We have a test drive booked for today with the Nissan Quashquai (no idea how to spell it, I am just throwing letters around randomly really), but with all the snow and ice out there I am not sure I want to risk going out, I am unsteady enough on my feet as it is. The OH will understand if I can't manage it, so will wait til he gets back with the car (mid afternoon) and maybe the pathways will be clearer. He won't risk my falling over so I can trust him to tell me if it's ok.

No new news about Tristan - just that he still seems more aware of his surroundings - thank you all for your continued support and prayers.

Ok, so, the BM and washing machine are on - will be using the tumble dryer today for sure though. Dinner will be fish pie I hope, I am in the mood for comfort food!

I hope everyone stays warm and cosy today.

hugs to those who need them

    Hi To All!

Didn't get on yesterday as was busy with two of my three off school with colds/coughsand also we have dd boyfirend living with us now. He's 16yrs old, was originally adopted at age 4 and his adoptive parents have thrown him out of the house (on 23rd December actually) and he's had nowhere to go since. He was staying with us for the weekend until he could sort out a homeless shelter but dh & I don't think that it's a viable option for him. He has been arrested for drunk & disorderly 2 months ago, and is doing a 4 month community sentence for this. We felt that to have him in a homeless shelter would only drive him further down a dark, bad path. The poor lad is heartbroken with his parents total rejection (social workers, housing officers, the police, his youth offending team worker have all spoken to them to be told that the worst thing they ever did was adopt him and that they don't want him in their family any more). We class ourselves as a christian couple with family values and can't let this happen to a child. We have set clear rules, boundries and limitations out for him & so far we are all rubbing along nicely. There's bound to be times when it all gets too much for us all but we're aware of it.

I'm having to be more OS than ever now that I've jumped to feeding 6 although I have been in touch with the people at Income Support so he should be entitled to payments then EMA when he can start college in September. So on that basis its sausage pasta & lots of bread for tea tonight and the WM is rarely off :D

Sorry for such a long post I'm going to catch up on everyone else now. Great news re Tristan, Diva, the power of prayer & positive thought does work. Keep me and this mixed up young man in your thoughts please folks. I'll need all the positivity I can get. Oh just for the record he's sleeping in the boys room - there was just room for another single bed - whatever they get up to is their choice but not right under my nose they won't :T

Hugs to everyone. Hope you're all safe in the snow, we weren't too badly effected here for a change although all 4 of the kids went out for a massive snowball fight last night with the dog who loved it ;)

    :hello: Good moning!

Cold and crisp out there this morning. Will need to be careful if we go out.As other people have said, it was lovely to see so many families enjoying themselves in the snow yesterday :D

tru -That's great news about your OH's new job!:j I had good news from a friend in Scotland today too, she was made redundant in about October but has just got a new job, only part time but a lot better than no job at all :D

SunnyGirl - It's lovely that you have taken DD's bf in :A

Christabell - nice to have you lurking again. Hope you've had your customary:coffee: by now!

MSD - Thinking of you and glad you're not going out today! We looked at the Qashqai on the Motability website but the advance payment was very high, but they may give you a grant towards it if it's the only car that's suitable for you.

Katholicos -I hope your neuro appointment didn't get cancelled.

ladymay - I'm making stew today too! Real comfort food!:D

Mummysaver - LOL at your kids' Dad's employee:rotfl:

Halight - Glad things went well at the jobcentre:)

Nasty shock this morning, Dh had left a bag of rubbish in the hall (goodness knows why:rolleyes: ) and when I came down i found something had eaten its way in to get at some out-of-date biscuits Dh had forgotten were in there - whatever it was, it has a very good sense of smell as the biscuits were in a sealed packet, so I'm really really hoping it's mice and not anything bigger :eek:  _pale_ _pale_

Tru - Where did you get the poison you put down?

Best wishes to all and ((((HUGS)))) to all in need of them

  • Good morning friends :hello: no more snow overnight and today the sun is burning your eyes out, a lovely day in South Yorkshire.
Just popped on to mention a new series starting tonight on ITV3 at 10pm. "Ladies of Letters" I loved it on the radio and have the audio tapes. If you have nothing else to watch, think you will enjoy this light-hearted comedy.
Will catch up later, hope everyone is having a good day, off to have a walk down the garden now.
