OS Daily Tues 3rd Feb 09

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tues 3 Feb. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread that we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we have achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

Morning. :snow_grin It's a snow day. While that may not be significant where you live, it is in Cornwall, there the white stuff is seldom seen.

It's cold too -3c . Scilly isles had snow too first time in 22 years. Work was busy with accidents everywhere at rush hour. The roads look fairly clear this morning, so I doubt there will be any problem getting to work, although it only takes one person to skid into a hedge and the road it blocked for everyone.

thanks.gifFor all the birthday wishes. I had a good weekend with lots to eat and plenty of visitors. I did expend far too much energy on entertaining though. I will take it easy next year.

Better get the lunches ready as I can't see any reason why our schools will be closed with only 1 inch of laying snow. There is supposed to eb more today, but I don't see it at the moment.

Cheers

    Good morning N9eav - I see you're typing!

Well, all our local schools were off yesterday and will be again today. That suits both grandchildren as well as my DILs - both of them are teachers! It's been great for the LOs because it's the first real snow they've ever had. We've had about another inch of snow overnight but it's not too bad; about three inches all told. DH still went to work yesterday because he's only local this week, which makes a change. He has outside work today but he doesn't mind because it's for a retired couple he has worked for before, and they always keep him well supplied with hot drinks and bacon rolls! I won't need to make sandwiches or a flask today.

I need to pop out to the local shop this morning just to get some milk. I would normally collect DGD from school this afternoon but, as school is off and her Mum doesn't want anyone driving unnecessarily today, we've put that off until next week.

Dinner tonight is chilli with rice, followed by the rest of the bread-and-butter pud I made yesterday.

I hope everyone is well and keeping safe and warm. We've been lucky here but, watching the news, conditions are quite bad in some areas. I know it's great for the LOs but I shall be glad when it has all cleared up and people can move about properly again.

    Anyway, off for a shower.

No more snow overnight, but my road is like a skating rink, I'll go in a little later I think & hope it's thawed a bit by then. Don't know if School will be open, but as with yesteday I have to go in even if it isn't. I just hope the heating is working properly today.
Hubby will finish decorating the study today, I'm hoping he then goes on to another room, lol.
    Breakfast - porridge
    Lunch - egg sarnies
    Tea - Carbonara
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good Morning

We are the same as you Hester, no more snow but the pavements are treacherous (sp), have got to take my car for a service today - not looking forward to that.

Both kids are at home again, DS will probably go and play out, hopefully DD will chill and leave me to get on. More paperwork and ironing today.

OH went to work last night and everyone is safe and sound luckily.

Not sure whats for dinner, was pork belly slices on the menu plan but not sure if OH will be home, will decide later.

Had one of those days yesterday when I didnt get much done - think it was because my routine was out, hopefully will be better today.

Anyway best get on, have a great day.x

    Morning all,

We had a little bit more snow overnight, but not too much, although where it has frozen it now looks very dangerous, just waiting to hear if the school is open today, unfortunalty the do not put it on the school website until 7.30, but which time we have to be ready to leave

Bit of washing to do today, and will hoover through and mop floors, minced beef and onion Pie for tea, with mash and veggies, nice and warming.

OH has to take his van in for its MOT this morning, hope it passes. Other than that dont think I will venture out too much today, other than to take the dog out.

    Keep warm and safe

    xx

    Morning all :hello:

(((hugs)) for anyone that needs. A very fast post this morning as I have tons and tons to do at work. Arrived early cause I thought the roads and trains would be bad and there is no snow around. It has been raining all night it would seem.

HM pizza was a roaring success last night even though for some reason my dough was more gloopy than normal. I make artisan's bread and used exactly the same quantities as usual

Tonights coq au vin is in the slow cooker and I will serve with mash probably when I get home.

    Have a lovely day everyone

    Morning :hello:

Mr tru put out some fat balls and seeds for the birds the other day but they weren't interested. I was looking out of the window yesterday and a few birds were nosying about I said "ooooooooooh there's a bird on your fat balls" and he collapsed with laughter  Men are all 12 years old :D

Mr tru starts a new job at the beginning of March :T He told them what £££s he wanted, they offered him £2K more  :j We'll be about £90 per week better off. Bout time things turned around for us, I don't post our bad news on here but believe me, we deserve it :D

I haven't got much to do today, just one load of washing and cleaning the piggies out. We chopped the pampas grass back at the weekend - we left the leaves in case hedgehogs were in there. So I have lots of the stems with the feathery bits on. I might try and make a basket out the stems  Dunno if it'll work, only one way to find out :D
