im 30 and use 1, wouldnt be without is as i find it so handy.
i used to be embarrased but try not to worry about it. it hold so much and saves the stuggling plus the strain on my arms.
untill i have to get it up the 1 flight of stairs to my flat, but it definatly worth it.
it amazing really, hauled large tubs of paint home too in it when i did some re-decorating plus fruit trees (a present for mum as she'd been after 1 for ages and seen a reasonable one in local nursery).
  • My mum and gran used to shop for the house each week walking through the lanes to the bus, then hauling it all back up the hills from the bus. We also had an older one we used to use when we went for a walk to collect fire wood, a necessity with only open fires for heating. This was in the 70s and 80s.

We have one for shopping, and various versions OH has made for use on the allotment for haul veg back.
    Put the kettle on. ;)
  • I do feel alittle embarressed about the thought of using one as i am in my thirty's. So i thought i'd ask do any other younger people on the forum use a shopping trolley? am i feeling embarressed for nothing?

I got mine last year (late 30s:)) so I could stock up at stuff at Home Bar*gains when I visited DM (nearest one to me is around 30 miles away!) - there's no car park near the shop and I was sick of carting stuff up the hill (usually with at least one bag breaking)..... I love it!

I think it probably depends on where you live - I see a lot of young people using them in the city, where people are less likely to have a car but not so much around where I actually live as you really have to have a car to get anywhere.

I'm 37 and have been using a shopping trolley for a couple of years now. I don't drive and got fed up of practically dragging heavy bags of shopping home. DH said that he wouldn't be seen in public with me using it. So I told him that when he carried the shopping home, instead of just lifting it in and out of the car, then he could complain about it. Until then he was to be quiet and let me get on with it.
I have a Typhoon shopping trolley called Dotty and as soon as it dies it will be replaced asap.

Ohhhhh never thought of naming mine!:)

  • I used one in my 20s. Had children to shop for and could not afford a car at the time. It was invaluable as I had a long walk up hill to town.

Just make sure you get a good one that when filled does not tip over. I have heard that some of the cheaper ones are not very stable when filled and topple over.

    Love them?
I have a friend that really takes the mickey out of me with my trolley. But I say to her if she stops using a suitcase on wheels when going on holiday then and only then will I stop using a trolley to transport much heavier stuff home from the supermarket.

If you don't know anyone else who uses one then consider yourself a trendsetter in your social circle! I'd love to be able to use one but the nearest decent shop is over 5 miles away. I tend to stop at the supermarket on my way home from work or my mums to avoid making a special trip.
  • I started in my twenties, and as I was a punk at the time I was reluctant, but sense took charge. I'm now reaching the correct age for them, and still can't imagine what I'd do without one.

Don't forget rucksacks - it's amazing how much you are able to carry when it's strapped to your back. With that and my trolley I get a weeks shop including cans for the cats and bottles of pop, and even the cat litter.
