  • I don't drive, and have often been sorely tempted to go for this option - a more appealing one now that the choice of trollies isn't so dire! I suppose the reason I haven't needed to is that, as I don't drive at all, I pass shops fairly often in the course of everyday life, so can pick things up more often without going out of my way, and a rucksack combined with the occasional shopping bag has served the purpose.

i went for a sort of ironic approach, and bought a Miss marple style wicker trolly.

I still use it for the school run sometime.

I love the sound of this - you'd be lucky to find one, though. Must say I did have visions of you transporting the child(ren) in the trolley itself :D. I think a small dog is more usual!

I'm 37 and have been using a shopping trolley for a couple of years now. I don't drive and got fed up of practically dragging heavy bags of shopping home. DH said that he wouldn't be seen in public with me using it. So I told him that when he carried the shopping home, instead of just lifting it in and out of the car, then he could complain about it. Until then he was to be quiet and let me get on with it.
I have a Typhoon shopping trolley called Dotty and as soon as it dies it will be replaced asap.

Go for it, and s*d what anyone else thinks!;)

If I wasn't reliant on the wheelchair now, I'd certainly use one!
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • I've used one for a few years, I'm now in my early 30s. I have a Rolser as mentioned above, they come in really funky designs.

I don't have a car, so would be reliant on expensive taxis or delivery services if I didn't have it. I've never felt embarrassed when using it. Only received a few comments, all of which were positive. Honestly, I'd say most people don't even notice it as they're caught up in their own little worlds. :)

I bequeathed my shopping trolley to my MIL - lol its usually the other way round, but her's had come to the end of its life and I wasn't using mine much due to the fact I was at work all the time and having groceries delivered a lot.

I had one of the stairclimber ones, useful cos they climb the curbs for you! Blue and green stripes! I bought it a Gardeners world show for just a few quid and I will tell you why I liked it so much was because not only did you not have aching arms and sore fingers when you got the shopping home, you didn't have to keep putting bags down whilst you were out so less chance of losing or breaking something.

My daughters and OH got a bit embarrassed about it but soon agreed that it was much nicer than hauling bags around town.

I am thinking about getting another one now, as we may be downsizing to just one car in the next few months. But this time I want one that will hang on the trolley as I shop in the supermartket so I am not getting in everyones way!

    Shopping trolleys are good for:

    Shopping
Days out - saves carrying picnics, drinks and spare coats. Not for climbing mountains but the park, or the zoo.
    Visits to the library
Shows - you see loads of people at gardening and foodie shows with them.

  • Ive got a plain black one that I was using from my mid twenties onwards! I dont drive and it was invaluable for heavy shopping. I dont use it much nowadays coz I prefer to do a monthly shop on line and get someone else to carry everything!LOL
Although the other day I did use my doggy stroller to pick up some compost and garden supplies from Wilkinsons (sadly the shopping trolley wasnt build to take big bags of compost!!.:))

I have one too, I'm almost in my mid 30's and have been using mine for about 4 years, I actually adopted it off my friend now that one WAS a granny type but hubby dropped me off at the shops and I had my trolley. I was about to change my mind but he took it out the boot so had no choice :o After that shopping trip I got over my silliness, I've had to buy a new one since (it keeps losing its wheel the old one) which is more funky! But I wouldn't do with out it now. Take it out 2-3 times and by then I bet you wont think nothing off it. I even fill mine with stuff to take to the charity shop before shopping, and yes I've also been asked by them if I want rid of that too:eek:......
Sorry for the ramberling hope it all makes sense I have my friend chuntering in the back round as I type.

I went one better and got a trailer for my bike. It carries an astonishing amount of stuff, especially coupled with panniers. I can easily get a few weeks' shopping in there including 36 loo rolls and a thing of washing powder.

Oh - I need to get one of those - we live up two flights of stairs (one indoor, one outdoor) and it's really hindered me using my trolley since we moved here last year...)
In a better financial position than ever before (thank you MSE!). Moved back to Scotland and now trying to keep debt-free!

My daughter (25) uses one for her weekly shop and when she goes to the library......or brings washing home!
It holds loads and she got it from Ikea. They have lots of patterns and hers has lasted 3 years so far.
