Hi guys. Been a bit quiet today cos I've been trying to tend to poorly puffy-face (aka DF
) and get some housework and cooking done, plus a trip to mil2b's
Umm...have waited so long for this to load that I've forgotten what I was writing! (Really hoping Sky actually come through tomorrow and the BB install goes properly!)
Sharon glad that today was a productive/helpful/'better word that I can't find' day
Congrats to Great Aunt Hassie! Hope popping in here (at least) every so often helps a bit...
LW I want the risotto recipe. My last attempt was a bit of a disaster
Cwta my hayfever's been appalling this year. I mithered GP about it again and he's put me on another antihistamine, the highest dose this time apparently, called...*rummages amongst copious amounts of drugs*... Fexofenadine. Seemed to be better today, but it was the first day on em so we'll see. I'm also on a Nasonex spray to try and help the sinuses along (in truth I should probably've been taking it for at least the last 10years but don't like it :shhh:) so hoping it works!
Pcl one of my favourite children's books has to be Heidi by Joanna Spyri (and the follow up books). There's the aforementioned Faraway Tree/Enchanted Forest/Enid Blyton goodies... DF's just voluteered "Copper and Todd"...?What was that one...something like The Indian in the Cupboard...? That was good.
Unity hope you had a good time up in the Highlands
Cwta maybe you can't get your arris into gear because you shouldn't because you're still recovering from all that [strike]overdoing it[/strike] walking in the Scily's..?
Kass I've found (using Firefox at least) that if I go through to the advanced bit of reply writing and then the browser goes squiffy I can usually get the post back...? You know, rather than the "quick reply" bit that's at the bottom of the page?
Yellowrock do you maybe have IBS or something of that ilk that may explain the pain you're experiencing? Not saying you have, but when I first was diagnosed with IBS I'd been taken in with inexplicable abdomen pains and they did ovarian scans and allsorts then too...?
I have just, somehow, managed to (whilst trying to avoid one ) get into an argument (over nothing, of course) with DF and he's gone off in a strop... You know when someone's spoiling for a fight and it doesn't matter what you do or don't say cos it ends up in an argument anyway..? *Sigh*"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
Ive got to be quick, Ive got to go to the docs in about 10 mins for the dreaded smear test (tmi sorry) I came on here to take my mind off it.
PLC My memories bad too, I wasnt sure if I was imagining it or not, but it did ring a bell iykwimI hope you find some good books soon, when the weathers better maybe a car bot would be a good place to look ?
BZ Thanks for reminding me, I knew Id forgotten something last night. Can I please have the risotto recipe as well LW ?
Also, its been mentioned before, but what is firefox ? Im a complete technophobe
I know what you mean about someone spoiling for a fight. When d/h's in a bad mood I leave him to it and start reading or something, he ends up talking to himself or the dog
I hope you get your BB today.
Id better go and get ready :eek:Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

Hi
Been back to docs she said the tramadol is morphine salts so explains itching has given me the sustained release to see if it makes a difference and some strong anti-histimaines, cant type too much am feeling woozy!
BZ - thanks I do have IBS but this pain is very similar to one I got 3 years ago with a corpus leutum cyst? spelling?? and it burst - v painful, will see how it goes, have tried the buscopan in case but with the groin pain and lower back pain it prob is gynae0 -
Mornin' all
Thanks for the reminder - could I have the recipe perlease lw. I haven't got up the courage yet to make risotto from scratch, but would like to give it a go.
It's quite a nice day here today - sunny but windy so I may have to hang the washing out to dry - it has been in the washing machine for the last 2 days waiting
bz, the anti-histamines do stand a better chance of working if you actually take them
Great Aunt Hassie I forgot to say congratulations!
sue Firefix is an alternative browser to Internet Explorer. It's pretty good and far more stable than most [STRIKE]Microshaft[/STRIKE] Microsoft software. I have a healthy distain for Microsoft who seem to release their products for the public to bug test for them instead of doing it themselves.
pcl I can't make any suggestions for books I'm afraid as my memories of chilhood seem to have disappeared into the ether. Quite strange as my Sister is the same too - neither of us can remember!
Bloomin strange about the hayfever - but then I suppose that the bodys reactin to pollen is an auto immune thingy wotsit,so shouldn' be too surprised.
Have a sweet day all.

'Ello all.
Welcome Mousey. Yes, it's not all just Fibromites in here - I have Lupus, and they've let me stay.:D
Before I forget, here's the recipe for BZ , CwtA and Suep. I just halved the quantities of everything except the garlic and the wine to make the right amount for the two of us; and as you can see, I don't stick to what the original recipe says.
Mushroom Risotto
Serves 4
Ingredients
2 tbsp olive oil (I used an ounce of butter as I haven't got olive oil)
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
8oz chestnut mushrooms, sliced
12oz arborio rice (I used ordinary easy-cook long grain and it worked fine)
¼ pint dry white wine
2 pints hot vegetable stock
2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (I used a mix of herbs I'd got in the freezer from last year's "harvest")
1oz butter
salt and freshly ground black pepper
freshly grated Parmesan cheese, to serve
Method
1. Heat the oil/butter in a large, heavy based saucepan and add the onion and garlic. Fry over a gentle heat for 2-3 minutes, until softened. Add the mushrooms and fry for a further 2-3 minutes, until browned.
2. Stir in the rice and coat in the oil/butter. Pour in the wine and simmer, stirring, until the liquid has been absorbed. Add a ladleful of the stock and simmer, stirring again, until the liquid has been absorbed. Continue adding the stock in this way, until all the liquid has been absorbed and the rice is plump and tender.
3. Stir in the parsley/other herbs, butter and salt and pepper. Serve with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. (And the rest of the bottle of wine);)
I guess for a vegan version, you'd use olive oil instead of butter both at the start and for stirring in at the end, and omit the Parmesan.
OK, cookery lesson over.:D
CwtA yes I have hay fever already. I do tend to suffer all year though; I put it down to the extraordinarily high levels of dust we seem to get in MK.
BZ, could DF have picked a fight cos he's feeling grotty? If I'm feeling particularly yucky, I tend to be very grouchy. Just a thought.
PCL I don't really remember much about what I read as a child - I had such a miserable childhood I've blocked most of it out. But a series of books I've recently enjoyed which claim to be for young adults is the "Chronicles of Ancient Darkness" series by Michelle Paver, the first of which is "Wolf Brother".
Welcome home Unity. I hope your spoons are replenished after a night in your own bed.
Sharon glad it went well yesterday.
Suep I hope your appointment this morning went OK. Says she, who conveniently "forgets" to go for those.
I'm a bit sorry for myself today, as I've got yet another prize crop of mouth ulcers. It goes with the territory with lupus, but it still hurts like hell, and eating is an absolute penance.
Got some paperwork to do today, as well, that came through the door this morning, so I've got 5 new membership cards to send out. It'll keep me out of mischief for half an hour or so.;)
Better get off my posterior and get started on something, I suppose.
:hello: to everyone I haven't mentioned by name.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
lw my last crop of ulcers, I got sommat over the counter from Tescos that was new on the market - far more effective than Bonjela or owt. I've googled, but can't come up with the name, sorry. It's a gooey gel that actually stays on the ulcer and makes it much more comfortable to eat. There's also some evidence (supposedly) that Rocket - eaten or steeped can help clear them. Hope they clear soon - horrid things.
I just had to come on to tell you all (like the child that I am) that I had a Nelson Healthcare goodie bag through the post - another comp win. Maybe I'm on a roll *g*I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -
Hi Folks,
Thanks for the welcome back and hello to all the newbies .
CWTA - The Uninvited, a well made film, but implausible in the extreme .I really hate films where you feel led up the garden path and this was one, the twist at the end wasn't so much a twist as taking a liberty with the audience, so all in all a fun film so long as you didn't expect too much. I am now looking forward to X-Men Origins, State of Play and Star Trek :T:T:T.
PCL - Favourite children's book - 'Stag Boy' by William Rayner ties with Phillip Pullman's trilogy for me.
LW - Spoons - I wish . Today I'm shattered, I didn't get to the Stitch 'n' B1tch, but managed the cinema and although I was dog tired I had a terrible night with anxiety dreams, mostly involving standing at the heart of a storm watching a hurricane destroy all these sky scrapers, not to mention being stuck and late for everything. Must pull myself around as DD2 and partner arrive tonight for the weekend.
Suep - Have started reading 'Twilight' at last, but can't help feeling it's a little like Mills & Boon with fangs. I find it quite entertaining though.
Sharon - I hope you keep having good days like that, sounds like just what you needed. Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever
