Charlie it is then! He's ready to come home tomorrow, hooray!!!!! :T

What are your views on putting cats on leads? I've never done this before and find it a bit weird but I'm paranoid about the road. We live next to a busy road and everybody goes on about how you shouldn't have cats if you do but we lived on a dual carriageway when we had Paddy and Gideon and it was never an issue. I've bought a harness thing and thought I could get him used to wearing one then we could take him to the seaside and things with us so he can see a bit more of the world :D

My problem is at home. Do I let him out on a night only? Do I let him out at all? I can't keep him inside, I don't really understand all that housecat thing but I would still feel cruel only allowing him out on a lead. I'm thinking I should just let him out on a night cos they prefer that anyway but I just don't quite feel right about it.

Can't believe they do knitting dvd's! I bought some needles and wool the other day but couldn't remember how to do it!! I managed to cast on but it didn't feel right. The wool was at the back of the needle and I'm sure it should be at the front. I told the woman in the market that if I couldn't remember then I was coming back to sit in the shop with her so she could re-train me! :D

LW, don't get down love. I'm so glad you can tell us this stuff so you don't keep it in. There is nothing more dangerous to your mental health than keeping things inside and I think us lot are all a little unhinged at the best of times ;)

raeh, when the Tsunami hit, my daughters dad was there. I got worried and rang his mum to ask if she knew if he was ok. "I think so" she says "I've not heard from him so he must be" I still can't work out the logic in that to this day!! Thankfully he was on a different part of the Island and was fine but I was even more worried about him after speaking to his mum! I'm sure they will be fine love but try not to worry in the meantime.

s/e, I used to have my eyebrow, nose and belly button pierced. I had me belly done in benidorm whilst drunk by this guy who didn't numb the area nor lay me down to do it so it was no surprise when, a few months later, I bent over to get into bed and my skin snapped and it fell to the floor!

I used to dye my hair different colours too. This guy I've known for years said to me the other day......"Kass, I like you now your not a Goth anymore" I was laughing my head off. For one, I wasn't a goth, just didn't follow the crowd and did my own thing but the thing that made me laugh was that I was never aware that my personality changes with my clothes/hair colour/appearance. Learn something new everyday don'tcha

I have had to re-pierce my ears a few times. I just used my earrings to do it. It bleeds a little but it's cheaper than going to a shop. That's moneysaving for ya!

Hahahahaha @ raeh. Bernard.........that's ace :rotfl:

Kass I'm so pleased that little Charlie will be with you soon. I don't really know a lot about cat care. I'm afraid, :confused:more of a dog person myself. Maybe pcl would have some words of wisdom for you? Or one of the other cat owners on here. I do remember a former colleague of mine using a cat lead, but her cat was a highly-strung pedigree Siamese, don't know if that makes a difference.

um.... not a lot of help, am I? LOL

Anyway, don't forget to post a piccie of the little fella when you get chance.:o

OK, offski now, Mr LW is on his way home:j:j Cheese, Quorn and tomato quiche and chips for dins, and an evening bashing goblins, methinks.;)
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

kass, don't let the kittling out at all until he's had his first lot of vaccinations (9weeks and then booster at 12 weeks). He'll need a good few weeks anyway of watching from the window to work out where his home is in relation to everything.
I'll spend a bit of time tracking down some articles that may help you. I've had cats for many years, but have never had a brand new kitten so, in the nicest way, I envy you!

You'll need to make sure that cleaning chemicals etc are out of the way of a little kitten's tongue and paws and all breakables are well out of his reach. You might find a little cuddly cushion helpful and comforting for him to sleep on as they do need to be kept warm and out of draughts.

LW I think it's so sweet that you miss your oh when he's at work and want him to retire, it must be love
Im the opposite, Im dreading my dh having to retire and hate it when he has time off, he drives me mad, I think he's got ADD he gets so bored at home and I have to keep finding things for him to do, or thinking of places where we can go that dont involve spending money  he's a window cleaner though and I dont know how many more years he can safely go up a high ladder. I told him he'll have to get an allotment or something to keep him busy.

Kass Happy belated birthday :bdaycake: Like LW Im a dog owner, but we used to have cats, I had 3 when we moved here 17 years ago, it's on a busy road opposite fields with tempting field mice though and I soon lost 2 of them on the road in the same year, the last one died of cancer a year later so Ive never had cats since and can understand how worried you are about the road outside your house. I do love cats and if we moved anywhere safer Id love another one. Enjoy your little boy Charlie, I think it's a lovely name, and cant wait to see piccies of him

BZ Im glad you made that drs app, it's a shame you have to wait until Weds but it's not long now. I hope the dr can help you this time, it must really be getting you down.

My arms are feeling a bit better now, dont worry I dont usually have a burst of energy like that ;) I've done nothing except rest read eat and sleep all day :D and havn't got a lot to do for the rest of the week except go to the salon my dd works at to get my hair cut on Thursday, she usually does it at home but needs me to go in for an assessment.
Is anyone going away for Easter or doing anything exciting ?

Yeah, I know he needs his injections before he can go out but thanks for the advice. He has a comfier bed than me!!! It's an RSPCA one I bought from Pets at Home. It was the comfiest one there and had also been reduced. Plus the fact that it helps the RSPCA. Everyones a winner!!!! :D

I actually thought his first injections at twelve weeks though so you have educated me. I'm sure thats when my last kitty's had to have theirs. Maybe they changed it.

LW, I'm really against pedigree breeding but I'm such a hypocrite as I'm dying for a bengal cat. I feel so sorry for some of them. The owners make them churn out litter after litter then get rid of them when they get too old to have more. It gets me so angry  The genetic defects that are bred into pedigree's are wrong too. She will have had her on a lead because she would get stolen if she was let out on her own. My mate made me drive her to Hull a couple of months ago to get a British Blue. She wants to become a hobby breeder and already had one. They are both cross BB's though so it isn't so bad and I know she would never get rid of them when they've served their purposes........in fact I'm quite worried that she won't sell the babies and end up over-run!!:D
  • Sorry kass, I didn't mean to do the teaching granny to suck eggs thing. Why don't you ask the owner of his Mum what she recommends when you pick him up, as she'll know his likely temprement?

glad he gets to come home tomorrow :) enjoy him and give him a scritch and cuddle form me.

kittens are worse than toddlers for getting into things, seriously i had one for a week and couldnt take it anymore, luckily was a pressie for my sister so i had not planned on keeping it anyway.

my sister has now had 3 baby kittens (1 who got stolen or something, then 2 together). she kept them all in for a couple of months then started to let them out under her supervision, on leads the first few times then loose. waited until they had been spayed/meutered to let them out alone, that was her vets advice as then they are bigger and not so vulnerable to foxes. although now the newest pair are 4 or 5 the girly is still terrorised by the garden fox. they also now have a cat flap, so the boy tends to spend all night out chasing things, and bringing frogs in.

i disagzree with the main road being a problem, it never has been for my cats, i just never let them out the front door (except whitney) when i lived on a busy road. the noise of the traffic tends to scare them away in my experience. but it does depend on the cat, i would not let my sisters boy out near a main road because he is not timid enough to stay away form noisy cars. i would say possibly night time is less safe for him to be on the road, its quieter so more chance of cars going fast and him not getting out of way quick enough, and its darker. lots of cars in day time should deter him, at least initially. if he learns its a scary thing whilst young he should be more careful.

whitney doesnt have a lead now (since she behaves and doesnt run away anymore) but always prefered the harness and lead to the cat box. was much less stressful for me to have her loose in the car and attached to a lead at vets etc than have her in a box. since whitney had a lead, chloe got one too...all i have to do is let her see it out though and i have no chance of catching her.

oops that got a bit long.

My road isnt too busy in the winter, but theres a caravan park down the bottom of the road and in the summer it gets busy, you get used to being stopped and asked 'wheres church farm' ;)pcl your right that night time is the real problem, thats when I lost my cats, but the problem is it's a straightish country road and at night the boy racers speed up and down it, you can hear them revving up as they get past the village shops, it's a long road too and as I said before its opposite a field so its tempting for the cats to cross over and go mouse catching, Ive seen quite a few dead cats down the road over the years and most of the neighbours have lost cats too. Im rambling aren't I :o sorry Im tired, back to the book I think ;)
