    good morning everyone.

    kass
thank you for making me laugh, actually i did like take that when they were new and young, not so sure about now. still like robbie though. ive heard of the cambridge but have less idea what it is than what atkins is. good luck with loosing the weight though.

sue not sure if i remembered to say congrats or not about the new grandkid, in case not i shall say it now so congrats. hehe cross stitch is the other hobby i have loads of stuff for but rarely get round to doing. i have started so many bits of that. (and i wonder why my spare room si so cluttered and messy when thats where everything lives).

bz i rarely venture anywhere else than here, certain places are guaranteed to turn into nastyness and certain posters remind me of school bullies. maybe pm magenta? she used to post here didnt she? i had heard that sky was rubbish like that, then my uncle got it and has had not a single problem ever. but i wonder, he needed it for work so paid for the most expensive bb package form sky, was paying rather than the free/cheap one what made it reliable i wonder. annoying about the printer. hope you get something sorted though.

im glad i wasnt the only one who had an instant panick then. i know weekends are alwasy quieter, but thats when every where else is quieter too so its worse lol. i really should get a life huh and not be so depnedant on the internet.
  • raeh, sorry to hear you've had a kerfluey week. I hate that sort of mood where I get all tearful and silly. Are you lacking in sleep?

bz, no surprise that you've been overdoing it then?! Have you knelt awkwardly on your toe at all? Is it painful to the touch or hot? Any chance maybe you have a splinter in it? Answers on a postcard please? although you may not be able to print one out *g*. Have you looked into the cost of getting invites printed at all? It can be quite cheap for a basic invite and then you can use your crafty skills to jazz them up a bit after?

I have to admit to getting on the flight in a bit of a bad mood as the taxi I had booked to take me from Travellodge to airport didn't turn up. Then when I got to the airport the flight was delayed as one of the other planes had "gone technical" and they were using "our" plane" to replace it. So I had 5 hours killing time in the airport - not too bad if you have company, but when you're on your own, it's a bit boring.
Had to queue for 25 mine for security check and they had already said I couldn't take my crutches with me, so standiing was a bit of a pain literally. My splints set off the metal detector, so I got the full search *g*.
There were then two 30 min talks on the Aurora and how it is created and then another on Astronomy. They were interesting, but as I'm not particularly interested in astronomy I just looked at the pretty pictures and nodded my head sagely *g*. Looking back though, if the Aurora didn't show, at least you had some knowledge of the stars to relate to what you were seeing.

You can imagine, by this time I was dying for a fag!!
The plane seated 118 and was almnost full - 2 seats either side of the aisle and quite big windows which helped. We flew over the Hebrides and to the Faro islands and then on into icelandic air space to a point where the Aurora was visible and then put in a holding pattern circling the area so both sides of the plane were getting a view.
They turn off all the lights in the cabin - even the lights on the tips of the wings, so it was complete darkness until your eyes adjusted.
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

  • The Aurora was visible as almost a halo on the horizon - we had a report of 2/10 chance of seeing it at all due to various weather conditions etc, so it wqs a bonus really. (Oy! Wake up at the back, I'm not finished yet!!)
It was quite weird as your eyes automatically looked unfderneath it for the light source creating it, but underneath and above, you could see the stars. I couldn't take any photos as you needed a 30 second exposure and my poor ickle arms wouldn't hold the camera still for long enough. I wasn't a breathtaking display, but was still awesome. I suspect I may look into a short trip to Oslo/Tromso at some point in the future to see it close up.
I didn't get back to the hotel til gone 3am, so was fairly knackered and then got back home late yesterday afternoon.

The official photos from the trip haven't been posted on the website yet, but I'll post a link that shows the sort of thing I saw. One of the Commentators on the plane (an Astronomer) is the co-host on The Sky at Night with Patrick Moore and he had THE most seductive voice *g*.

    Apologies for boring everyone!

    Hello All

I am after some advice please?

We think my daughter has fibro (althought it hasn't been offically diagnosed yet) and has recently been turned down for DLA.

I wondered if this had happened to anyone else and if so whether you appealed against it. If you did and were successful, what sort of things did you put down?

All the things she said she needed help with etc, they have put as you DON'T need help with these things - I do wonder if they read the form at all, but of course we don't know what the Doctor's report said either, but as they don't spend 24/7 with my daughter I don't see how they can accurately describe how she copes!

Any help would be appreciated as we have appeal within a month.

    Thanks

Firstly, I've got to say cwta WOW, the pictures amazing, and your e mails are really interesting, I knew what it was but havn't seen it before.
Patrick Moore lives a few miles from me in Selsey, I have a friend who lives there and she had tea with him once, thats my claim to fame and Im proud of it :p Im so glad your back and hope you've recovered, it sounds exhausting.

BZ Yes it is the cambridge diet, but I dont know anything about it.

Kass so you dont want to know that Ive got a chocolate and banana cake in the oven then :D

tenmah The best thing to do is to get in touch with your local CAB, they are trained to fill those forms out and will help you through an appeal. I didnt have any problems getting it, but that was years ago, I think they almost always turn you down first time now, thats what it seems like anyway. Good luck, and dont give up.

Thankyou for all the congrats, I cant wait to start buying up tiny clothes again ;)

  • Yes, thank you s/e.
I had the pleasure of meeting s/e for lunch yesterday before I came home. She only flipped me the bird once, so I think we must have got on OK. She's as [strike]mad[/strike] nice in person as she is on here.

Possibly meeting up again in a weeks time or so and hoping that sometime soon I can go up and maybe help her with the gardening as I enjoy it and miss it and we can be two crazy old birds falling about in flower beds together.

This thread has given me so many new friends in the virtual world and in real life and I'm grateful to each an every one of you for giving me something of a life back. Before I came on here, I wasn't going to the theatre or anything and would never have dreamed of going on a trip like that on my own and it's down to you lot. Hugs to you all. :j

suep, I did go on a bit :o . The website that shows the pictures taken on the various trips is www.auroraflights.co.uk and there are some better photos there. I wanted to show you something representative of what I saw.

Well I was about to post and say congrats suep, but you can balls now :p

I'm so hungry! Well that's a lie actually. I'm not hungry but I just want to put something in my mouth (we'll have less of that thank you!!) :D

Auntie axe, I've always wanted to see the Northern Lights. That and go on safari in Africa. They're my two things I'm going to do before I pass. The photo is cool, it must have been amazing!

I'm sat here like a demented bird! You know that pain you get when you trap a hair in your collar or something and it pulls? Well I've got that but there is no hair trapped. It happens when I move my head so I'm sat here cocking my head to the side and back trying to find a hair when I know there isn't one. God(s) knows where the pain is coming from or why I keep cocking my head when I know it's going to hurt!!

BZ!! *tuts* There was nothing far reaching about that! She said.....and I quote........"I usually remember that magnesium helps.........and take that" ;) Just cos it's the first time I've spotted something before anybody else! You're just jealous :p

The cambridge is similar to lighter life if you have heard of that one. Cambridge has been around years though and is a lot cheaper. You don't eat any food at all. You have their powdered stuff that you make up into soups drinks and mousse's. They also have bars if you need something to put in your mouth ;) but she was out of them until Monday. I just found it better because I don't have to think about food and what I'm going to make and how many points/calories are in it. I end up eating loads when I diet :rotfl:

I know what you all mean about other threads. I have seen a couple where some people have got really nasty. I don't see the need for it. There is one bloke who I really want to let rip on (he hasn't ever said anything to me but still) but I won't allow myself to rise to it.

Tenmah, they did that to me. Everything I said I couldn't do, they said I could!! It reminded me of when children get into arguments "no I'm not"........."yes you are"...........you know the drill ;) I rang them to ask them to look at it again but she said that it was out of the time limit and I would need to put it in writing and explain why I didn't ask in time. I then asked how far out of the limit I was (cos it didn't feel that long since) but we got into this really weird conversation where I could imagine her adopting a suspicious look on her face and squinting her eyes. She goes "well what does it say on your letter" I say "I don't know I haven't got it" so she says "well I can't tell you then" so I say "but you told me in the letter" so she says "yes but you haven't got it so we can't tell you" :rotfl: :rotfl: That went on for a good while before I finally realised they are all mental and I was wasting my time :rotfl:

You can find out what the doc put if you ask the doc for a copy or just to see it (something else I haven't yet got round to) And, for future reference, you can ask the doc for you to see his report before he sends it off and ask for anything you don't agree with to be taken out/changed (something else I haven't.......;) )

Go see C.A.B and take all your gear with you. They should be able to help. Good luck!!!
