Whats the best brand of washing machine?

I'm trying to decide between a Gorenje and a Samsung.
I've read earlier in the thread that Gorenje is associated with Bosch/Siemens, but no idea if Samsung are any good at washing machines. Anyone have any experience of Samsung?
Here's the models I'm looking at:
Gorenje WA74163:
http://www.gorenje.co.uk/laundry/washing_machines?c=161104
Samsung WF8804RPA:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=homeappliances&type=washingmachine&subtype=frontloading8kgcapacity&model_cd=WF8804RPA/XEU
Both machines are similar priced (£440 - £500). The Gorenje has 7kg load 1600 spin, but the Samsung has 8kg load 1400 spin. The Samsung also has an Air Refresh feature, but don't know if that's just a gimmick.
Basically I'm trying to decide between these 2 as they both come with 5 year warranty. Woud also have considered Miele and Siemens if it wasn't for the extra price.
Any ideas about Samsung or Gorenje? Thanks.0 -
Finally bought a machine today - MIELE WT2670
It should hopefully be here in about 10days
I will update on performance and what not when it gets here! DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0 -
£500/ £600 for a high quality Miele Washing Machine would be cheap. However, when I was looking at prices they were never less than £1000. So I bought a Bosch. It is strange how people say that £500/ £600 for a high quality Miele Washing Machine is expensive, I would suggest that in value for money terms, they are very reasonable.0 -

Helpful website with lots of good info, written by a washer repair man I believe0 -
I had an Electrolux WD20, which I bought for my first flat in 1988, and it only died last year. I was bereft. That machine saw me from Punk to New Romantics, through nappies to Iron Maiden t shirts (second time around...my 18 year old's)
It was part of the family. They really do not make machines like that now...I remember reading the average life is five years or something.
I sound like my mother and her twin tub.
Anyway...Electrolux were taken over by Zanussi...so when my current Siemens goes to the great laundy in the sky, I might try them.Life.

Bring it on! :j0 -
In the last few years we have had:-
Zanussi £380 for 5yrs - noisy (sold it with the house)
Zanussi £420 for 4yrs - Self destructed (concrete vibration damper fell to bits two times, totally rubbish design)
AEG £450 - suffered brain death after 2 1/2 years (now know that AEG/Zanussi/Electrolux are all the same group)
As you can see, we didn't buy cheap, these were all well researched and got best buy best spec for price etc.
Now we have a Miele W3740 with 10yr warranty (bought last year). It's built like a battleship - very heavy - and even if it only lasts 10 years it will work out cheaper than the others. It is currently £680 at dixons.

We bought a budgetCANDY washer from comet...it was around £140.
7 years later, it is still going strong without a single problem! Only had motor brushes replaced at about a tenner.

Getting a long lasting washing is down to luck IMO. I had a Zanussi that lasted 10yrs without a single problem, and it was used virtually every day. The bearing went eventually, so thought it was time for a larger wash capacity washer which used less energy and water.
I bought an LG direct drive. who knows how long it will last. 10yrs I hope!0
