  • I would recommend Bosch. I touch wood when I say it but never had a problem with mine. Have also replaced all other kitchen appliances with Bosch over time, very, very reliable.
Saying that, I did have 2 Hotpoint machines and both lastest years when the kids were young and absolutely wore them into the ground. Husband replaced almost all he could replace over the years but they stood the test of time. That was a few years ago, but I certainly couldn't complain about them.

Dyson would be my choice, but they are not making them anymore. Had excellent service from a Bosch machine.

I like Bosch. My mum had one machine til I was about 18 and then got a new kitchen so decided to upgrade, she freecycled her old machine which was still in full working order! I have a Bosch myself, only had for 6 months though so can't comment on longevity!!

I ordered mine from Sainsburys Kitchen appliances and delivery was arranged at the time of checkout and the 2 man team delivering it were very efficient. I would recommend them.

I've always had Bosch appliances and loved them up till now but my newest washing machine is rubbish and I wouldn't buy it again.

    It's this one...http://www.boschappliances.co.uk/boschuk2007/en/products/products-WashingMachines+FreeStanding+Logixx-WAS32466GB-pid-354.htm

    Wasn't cheap but it's awful.

Door catch is not very sturdy. You have to press on a certain area to get it to 'click' shut. Fabric softener occasionally comes out at wrong time. Front of machine vibrates terribly as if something is pressing against the metal.

    Generally not happy.

Also bought a Siemens tumble dryer...from the same stable as Bosch. Not happy with that either. Terribly rattley and noisy. Sensor drying is awful, items which are supposed to be dry are still damp etc. Only good thing is the 5 yr guarantee. I suspect I'll need it!

    Very disappointed in quality now.

I have the 1400rpm version of this. I too have the door click issue but it works... and it is sturdy, it is definitely LOCKED when the machine is on!!

I would recommend this machine, no problems with vibrations, I find it very quiet.

i've had a hotpoint for about 6 years and it's still going strong -
i think it's moreabout luck than anything
  • Like most brands now, cheapness is the way forward so there is not much quality around for bargain prices.
Bosch is the 'budget' arm of the Siemens group and most, not all, of the machines are Spanish built, not German. The same for AEG who are now owned by Electrolux and are similar build to Zanussi(who Electrolux also own).

Depending on budget check out these guys http://www.iseappliances.co.uk/. They are an independent supplier and have machines with 5 and 10 year warrantys. The machines with the 10 year warranty are made by ASKO,quality Swedish company.

Alternatively if Bosch is your choice check out http://www.gorenje.co.uk a Slovenian company who make for the Bosch/Siemens group but without the 'big name'.

I have the exact same model washer, and I do have the vibration and door catch problems.

Come to think of it, I've had an engineer come out for both issues. He replaced some plastic (bearings?) bits on the door, because it seemed to jiggle ever so slightly. But, I just close the just under the handle and 99% it locks first time - you just need to press it slightly. To be fair, I had exactly the same problem with my Hotpoint.

Regarding the vibration - well, I might phone Bosch about it tomorrow, but, as a rule, it's not that bad. It sometimes does it when spinning a load which is out of distribution a little more than usual. It also makes a knocking sound when washing sometimes - usually small/medium loads in plenty of water. The engineer told me it was the drum knocking the pipes, because it was so cramped inside.
Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.
  • Hi
When I looked for a new washer and doing much asking I went for john lewis own brand there were at that time only 3 and I brought the middle 1400 spin , which I am told is a Miele but with a JL name , I have had the washer 3 years now on every other day never let me down love it .
when I have saved enough I will get there dryer
