Whats the best brand of washing machine?

I have had my AEG for 9 years now and use it at least 5 times a week. It's still going strong."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Well the same engineer has been out twice already - he seems to be fine. I might offer him a cuppa to lessen my chances of being charged. My concern is that the engineer will blame the noise on an unbalanced load/overloading/not perfectly level machine etc etc and the callout will therefore not be covered under the guarantee.
Your last coment backs up my thoughts that this particular model is poorly designed (especially for a 1600 spin speed which obviously involves more movement).
I will find a combination of clothes that makes the drum knock when washing, and demonstrate this to the engineer. That way, he'll know I'm not making it up.
I'm not sure what you mean by my last comment - do you mean door locking, or changing spin speed? Bosch explained to me this morning, it could cause damaged to the machine if the spin speed kept fluctuating - but I batted his comment away, remarking that I would expect one of their top-end model machines to perhaps come with a child lock.
As for the door locking - it certainly does not unlock at any point during the cycle. It's just a senor that detects if the door is shut, that is acting up. Hence, if you nudge the door slightly (read: not hold the door in) then it start the cycle.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -

Sorry. I was referring to the bit about design. I think the design is at fault here which is why there is knocking and vibration etc.
Would you come back and post how you got on with the engineer please? I'd like to know what his response was to the knocking noisy bit. I think I will ask for an engineer to call also but I'd like to know what happened with you first?Herman - MP for all!

Wow so loads of votes for Bosch! Thanks guys, just mooching the comet website now, Miele is definitely out of my price range!
Thanks
I am also a predictable girl!:
1st Miele - beautifully quiet, give an indication when it has been overloaded with washing, good guarantee and really energy/water efficient.
2nd Bosch - had one for nine years without problems
I was once warned off any makes beginning with "H"!
On the cost issue though, its worth checking out the comet auction site for their ex-display Miele's. I bought mine this way - £350 less than the otherwise adverised price.
It's funny what has been said about Bosch as I have read that somewhere else recently. The suggestion then was that the 5+ year old build was much better than the current build. I can't say from experience this was my case, but I had an older model and found it never let me down.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Hi,
Im looking at getting this: http://www.which.hughesdirect.co.uk/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=ZAN-ZWF16581W (you get a discount by clicking through the Which website)
Which say:
This Best Buy machine gets clothes really clean and has plenty of extra features, but its cotton rinse could be better.
Water and energy efficiency are excellent for cottons and good for easy care, so the ZWF16581 could be good for those who have a water meter.
The ZWF16581 uses Zanussis Jetsystem technology, which automatically adjusts the water and energy use according to the amount of washing in each load. However, we found that the cotton program gives excellent cleaning results either way, and the Jetsystem wash takes slightly longer than regular cycles.
Rinsing isnt bad if youre washing easy-care items, but the cotton rinse is poor, so you may want to use the extra rinse option if you have sensitive skin. The 1600rpm spin removes plenty of water, but its noisy. The programs are quick, washing a full 7kg load of cottons in 119 minutes, or 125 minutes with the Jetsystem switched on.
The delayed-start setting allows you to prepare the machine in advance, and there's a useful night-wash program that holds the wash in rinse water without spinning, so you can benefit from cheap, night-rate electricity without waking up the family with a noisy spin cycle. In addition to the usual selection of programs, youll find special settings for duvets and sports shoes, and an auto half-load feature that will save energy if you dont fill the drum.
Pros: Excellent cotton cleaning, excellent energy and water efficiency for cottons, short program times
Cons: Poor cotton rinse, noisy spin
Its a best buy and gets 71% the highest score being 75% (6th place out of 21).
Hope this helps!

I have an LG - had one with ex as well. Extremely good, very large drum so you do more than a normal load. Has 'quick wash' cycle that's only 35 minutes if spinning to 1100. Tells you the time remaining on the cycle as well which is handy and will beep at you once it's finished to remind you to empty it!To love and be loved is the greatest happiness of existance - Sydney Smith0

They sell other makes too. The thing is with Costco - they have an unlimited warranty as long as you stay a member. So in 5 years time, even if I don't like it any more, I can take it back and receive a full refund - take it back for any reason at any time. It's a no brainer really! (for me anyway).
We've had our 1600 spin H******* Aqualtis now for 3 years and have had no problems at all with it, I absolutely love itIt's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
We have a Bosch and it's noisy and dances around the kitchen a bit. The problem seems to be be that they cost reduced vibration monitoring. Our old Hoover tried to spin, found it vibrating slowed down for a bit and tried again. The Bosch is thick and just goes for it whatever the consequences. Still, the Bosch seemed better made than some of the other offerings at the time.0

Depending on budget check out these guys http://www.iseappliances.co.uk/. They are an independent supplier and have machines with 5 and 10 year warrantys. The machines with the 10 year warranty are made by ASKO,quality Swedish company.
