I was thinking of a Miele but the ISE10 looks good. Would you recommend it over a Miele? I would love a machine guaranted to work for the next 22yrs!

    Hi Woodyrocks,

For me,yes. The ISE10 is the machine which is the one made by ASKO. Everything about the machine is quality. There's not many manufactures out there prepared to give a 10 year warranty with a design life of 20yrs(based on the fact that if you did 1 wash a day for 365 days it would take 20yrs to wear out).
Depending on where you live you should have a local engineer to hand if it does ever need a repair.

How much does it cost to get an engineer to come out, basmic?
Nothing, providing it is within it's warranty - which, in my case anyway, is 2 year manufacturer's warranty.

:D Sorry. I was referring to the bit about design. I think the design is at fault here which is why there is knocking and vibration etc.

Would you come back and post how you got on with the engineer please? I'd like to know what his response was to the knocking noisy bit. I think I will ask for an engineer to call also but I'd like to know what happened with you first?
Well he came, to diagnose a noise - that's what it had on his job report anyway. I told him I reported the door catch too, but it wasn't on the report he showed me, so didn't carry the part.

He took the back off the machine, told me to put a small in load. Before turning it on, he shook the drum about - I heard the rattling noise, and pointed it out to him. He told me it was the shock absorbers making that noise. He took one off, and showed me it moving - but because there was no rubber missing from it, it wasn't damaged.

Being honest, he told me that it was just doing it's job and there was nothing he could do about it. Basically the washing machine's drum doesn't just move left/right, it moves back/forward too. When moving back/forward, the shock absorber made the noise.

Oh well, at least I knew what the cause was anyway. I asked if cause damage in the long run, and he told me no - it's just doing what it's designed to do. Shame they're not quieter, but that's not his fault really.

With the door lock, he removed the rubber door seal and checked the lock - he said sometimes these have lose contacts, but not so in my case. He said if I still have problems, just phone Bosch up and give them a part number for him to take with him. He said he could see my point, and he gets paid for the job anyway. Win-win situation, if you ask me!

So, if your Bosch machine is under it's 2 year manufacturer's warranty, and making any odd noises you feel it shouldn't - get it looked at, but be sure to put your point across both over the phone and to the engineer so they are more sympathetic with you. ;)

I have had an engineer out about my dishwasher recently which is a John Lewis and he said that they are Electrolux not German made. However, there wasn't anything wrong with it, food bits caught in the paddles <<blush>>

Must admit JL told me their machine is NOT a Miele. It is a combination of AEG and Zanussi.

All I can say is that the number I had to call to get them out(after calling JL) was the Electrolux hotline???

Maybe you were unlucky with your Hotpoint. My last one lasted 12 years and I've recently bought another Hotpoint. This one has a 1600 rpm spin facility which was a little more expensive than some cheaper models but the clothes come out so much drier that what extra we spent on the machine will hopefully be saved in laundry /heating & drying costs over its lifetime.
  • look at lg. not quite as good build as miele but much quieter if you get a direct drive model. bosch are nowhere near as good as they used to be, personally i wouldn't touch one, agree about hotpoint they are rubbish

It is strange how people say that £500/ £600 for a high quality Miele Washing Machine is expensive, I would suggest that in value for money terms, they are very reasonable.
  • Inherited a Neff when we moved into our flat nearly four years ago (so it's clearly older than that). Never given us a second's trouble, and we do A LOT of washing...
