    You're on the wrong thread.

If you want to rant and rave about the grant, then there is a thread on the discussion board which you can join in with :)http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1610999

    Sorry, my bad!

Can I also rant about BBC's "Women's Hour" attitude towards working mothers too?

Anyway, good luck with the pregnancies, I hope they are all happy and content, you get happier children that way!

does anyone have any idea of the questions they ask on the form, do they ask anything about how much money you get into house etc (even though its not meant to be means tested), where you work etc or is it just mothers age, edd etc?? thanks x
  • I have a good idea, why doesnt the government keep paying women/young girls to keep having babies! Are all the other benefits that pregnant women get not enough, all the governemnt wants to do now is throw more money at people for getting pregnant. No wonder the pregnancy/teen pregnancy rate has sky rocketed! Shame on you!!! Its like a reward for being pregnant! I think the money should be used on more beneficial things like healthcare and cancer drugs, not as a way of making sure that the UK could repopulate the world!

What a joke, another wasteful incentive from the government. £190 to mothers, some who will spend it wisely and some who will spend it on a Christian Dior tracksuit for their new arrival. Those that spend it wisely most probably don't need it and those that spend it on a Dior tracksuit don't deserve it.

It would be better practice to provide vouchers for use on products such as formula, nappies, ect - that would be much more useful, would ensure that it is spent correctly and give a helping had. Additionally it should be limited to low income families, don't get me wrong as a taxpayer I would like to benefit from it but I'm not sure everyone needs it.

Not received it yet although due date isn't until 25th even though our twins are now 3 weeks old lol.

Yes some mums may blow it on themselves but so what? surely they deserve a treat after going through labour? I know my wife would appreciate one. But she'll probably put it towards the babies because she has me to treat her :) unfortunately not all new mums are as lucky as my wife and have to pay for their own treats and this is just a little way of doing it should they wish to do so.

It doesn't mean they don't or wont love their child, nor does it mean their child is going to have the wrong upbringing. Please don't have so blinkered views and think for once about the whole benefit from it.

Why should they get a treat for going through labour. What an immature and ridiculous comment. No money in the world (or treat) could compare to the joy I get from my children, since when do mothers need any more of an incentive to go through labour than the love of a child.

And if it is for a treat then why call it a Health in Pregnancy Grant. It is just so that parents can go out on a jolly or make sure that they have all the new designs and of course it all has to be brand new. We live in a society where people are so materialistic.

    Pathetic.

I don't receive any benefits, never have and hopefully will never need to.
I pay my taxes like anyone else yet in order for me to have a child I need to save my hard-earned money in order for me to have a decent amount of time off as I will only get SMP. It is my choice to have a child so I am happy to do this and am certianly not complaining. It is nice though that for once I am getting something back from the Government to help me a little bit.

This grant is the equivalent of child benefit given from 25 weeks instead of from birth but in a lump sum and not at the rate of £20 per week. It is designed for women to use it towards keeping Healthy during pregnancy to ensure that the baby is as healthy as possible when born - I agree with the vouchers suggestion as some people will spend it on things not related to the baby or pregnancy.
Mine will either be spent on something for the baby or to add to the SMP when I am off so that I get to spend longer with my baby. This is because I already eat as healthily as I my picky palate will allow!
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Where does the time go?
