Does this apply in Scotland? If not, shame on you for not making this clear!
Direct quote from the notes that accompany the claim form (yes that's right I've got one :j)
"You can claim as long as you:
    • are at least 25wks pregnant
    • usually live in the United Kingdom (UK). By United Kingdom we mean England, Scotland, wales and northern Ireland......"
    No shame for us :p

Found out about this from someone at work the other day - think I would've missed it otherwise, as midwife never mentioned it. Though the OH is 'only' 21 weeks at the mo so maybe they were saving it for the next check-up!
  • I managed to get a form from my midwife on Friday and she kindly filled it i for me and I sent it away the same day. According to MW they are pretty quick although in light of the apparent backlog, who knows? I do know the HMRC were very quick when processing my surestart grant for my previous pregnancy, it took a week and the money was in my account by Friday the following week. Fingers crossed everyone can get a form and good luck with all your pregnancies.

Is there any clarification on the payment if you are still pregnant now. My DNIL has gone over her time and has not had the baby yet, and they certainly could use the £190.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?

Unfortunately as its a health in pregnancy grant it cant be done in arrears, I was due 31st of march but am still here as I knew I would be, but am not eligible.
  • What a pain. It would be so much easier if I could just download the form, get it signed and send it in. My GP's office doesn't have the forms and I had to contact the HipG to have them contact their head office to send the forms to my GP. A little long winded and I have to check back in a month to see if it was done. Yikes!!
  • We've waited ages for the midwife to have any, keeps running out. Thanks for the number will give that a go
  • The reason why a midwife/health professional has to issue the form to you is that the grant is designed to encourage women to seek professional medical advice whilst pregnant. Believe it or not many women don't bother seeking medical opinion/help when pregnant. This seems to be for a variety of reasons. Some may still be smoking/drinking/taking recreational drugs, etc and are afraid of being berated when they visit their midwife/doctor.

I'm due 18th April and so qualified for this grant. My form was sent away after the aforementioned 25 week marker however as always with these government initiatives, there's a backlog & the first payments aren't due to be released til mid-May!
At least it's a free £190! I only wish this had been introduced some years back as this is my 4th & definately LAST baby!

Good luck to all those expectant mums out there!

All of this is complete rubbish.

It's Gordon Brown's "Commitment to Child Poverty".
Why? to end child poverty? Here's a SIMPLE rule of thumb. IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO RAISE A CHILD PROPERLY, DON'T HAVE A CHILD.

Maybe we're more likely to vote for Brown if we are mentally defective.

    You're on the wrong thread.

If you want to rant and rave about the grant, then there is a thread on the discussion board which you can join in with :)http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1610999
