    Hi,
I hope that somebody more experienced than myself can advise me regarding OPPI insurance taken out at the beginning of 2001 with a new credit card.
I have been paying the premium every month for 8 years thinking that I was covered but after hours spent on the phone over the last 2 days it appears that no policy was ever issued and I am not covered by insurance.
Will I be able to claim all of my considerable payments back.

    Sandy.

    Hi Sandy

If you were sold PPI and mis sold this for any reason then yes you can.

However, you state that you now found out your not covered, does it also state this on the credit agreement.

In regards of extortionate credit card charges if you've no ppi you can try to reclaim on them, for more info and advice on this matter you can also post on this link here:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=102

By all means post back if you do find you did have insurance and we shall help you through the reclaiming procedures, good luck.;)

  • Thank you Di3004 for taking the time to reply to my question.

It appears that while the credit card company have been taking the premiums each month, they have not passed this on to any insurance company (I would not have known about this if I had not tried to make a claim, the 1st claim in the 8 years I have had this card), no insurance company has any knowledge of my payments.
I have paid a lot of money thinking that I was covered in case of sickness, uneployment etc and all the time I was not.

    Hi Sandy

    Your very welcome.;)

    Good job you checked then.

Also just to state that you may find now that there are stand alone policies which are a lot cheaper than the providers if you still require this, and in regards of credit card charges, try to claim on them, this may be the problem with it being so expensive.

For your interest, more information here on insurance and stand alone information, also providers.;)

    Hi,

In May 2004 I took out a loan with First Plus for (around) 35000. At the time I was advised t o take out the ppi and took them up on the offer. I believe I was missold this because they didn't ask about pre existing conditions, didn't tell me it would be added to the loan (currently standing at 54k) and didn't tell me it would only last for 5 years (its a 25 year loan). The only mention of 5 years was 'if you don't claim in 5 years we'll give you 10k back', no other ifs, buts or maybes.

Well now the 5 years is up, and they wrote to me recently to advise me that I have 1 month (from the expiry date 1/6/09) to reclaim my 10'000 pounds. My question is, can I reclaim this money (i think they may turn me down because I missed one payment - something they never mentioned in the original call but detailed in the letter they sent) and still reclaim back the interest etc etc.

I'm not sure which way to go. If i reclaim my 10k and they actually do pay me out - does that mean I can't claim back the rest of the money owed.

Any help would be most welcome.

    Thanks

    Ann

You're very welcome and I agree, it does help to know someone else is going through the same thing. I often look at the successes just to give me a bit of hope and to see that some people are successful in their claims!! They say patience is a virtue..........

Yes I know what you mean I do the same.... luck through successes and hope to be amongst them one day -- hopefully very soon!! Then it will be celebration time... Hope the same for all and then all descussion will be in the successes forum!

    Hi There

In the first place just ring the companies and ask them if they are not able to help then you would need to send a SAR which is set out on this thread. If you need to go down this route then ask again and somebody on here will guide you. Good Luck:D

Did you have to take your complaint to the FOS

Yes both. There are issues about the cost of the PPI etc as well that were brought up so that in itself was a miss selling problem

    Hi Ann

There are loads of FP complainants on here and I'm sure they will post up to give you some help and advice.

I do hear the claiming back after 5 years can be a problem, but do not quote me on this, I would prefer someone who have dealt with them confirm this.

Otherwise you do have a case for being mis sold the product.

For more information on reclaiming with templates, follow the reclaiming guidelines, but write in your own reasons, they have 8 weeks to respond in full, and another letter maybe required for them to reconsider if they do not resolve this first time round.

Post by recored delivery, and their final response should give details of the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) if your not satisfied with the outcome, good luck.
