PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

I had an old (now settled) loan with Northern Rock.
I thought I had to have PPI, and it was compulsory to cover the loan.
As their own insurance was expensive, I thought I was being prudent & bought it independently cheaper.
The loan was in my name only - I had a steady well-paid job at the time with the local council.
I know I declared my pre-existing condition when applying.
When I settled the loan when my husband was made redundant from his payoff, I also cancelled the insurance early.
I now know I need not have had PPI, it was not compulsory and my employer would have paid me anyway.
The PPI company refused my claim saying I had applied voluntarily. I had simply contacted them with an aim to cut the cost of what I thought was compulsory cover.
Any suggestions anyone please?
I have just obtained our (free) credit reports from equifax and having realised the extent of our credit cards & loans over the past few years (before the redundancy & subsequent job changes) - we had about half a dozen loans/cards - most of which were settled from the same redundancy payoff - I was hoping to pursue further potential/more difficult PPI claims, (as we have less paperwork for those) but this has put me off.0 -

Hi they are trying it on firstly you worked for a council so you were an employee of local government so you never needed the insurance and you would have been covered by your employer and your pre-existing condition would'nt have been covered, you have been misold. oh your ppi would have been a loan within a loan go back to them and give these reasons0 -

thanks for your reassurance - do I pursue this through Adminicle / Paymentcare who provided the PPI in 2006 & refused my claim, or through Northern Rock whose loan it was supposedly protecting?
I dont quite understand the Loan-within-a-loan concept though?0 -
Hi all well i am still waiting to hear back from barclaycard regarding my PPI. I also found my old egg account number but still they cant find it on their system they said that when they took over the closed accounts were not transferred over. I also tried to get in touch with RBOS about one of my credit cards but said that they couldnt fnd my account as it must have been deleted because it had been that long since i closed it. It was closed around 2006. Do you think it is time to just send off the PPI questionnaire to both barclaycard and RBOS and if so where do I get the address from. Cheers.0

For those that have filled in the Questionaire form, the D.6 question that asks "Did you have any other means of making your repayments - if you were unable to work through sickness, accident etc"
Is answering YES the best option? Otherwise, would the banks not say that there was a case that having insurance is the best option for you?0 -
Afternoon guys
just had a letter from halifax offering me a full refund minus previously accepted claim which i dont remember doing can a challange this as im claiming the ppi was mis sold0 -
SO...got my T&C/account details back for my Virgin credit card and it shows that I have ticked the box for PPI (to be honest it really doesn't look like how I would 'tick' if you get my drift!) The other thing is that I was 'sold' this card and I'm self employed (and was at the time of the card application!) Now I understand PPI benefits do not cover the self employed (if they become 'unemployed' etc etc) so I firmly believe I would NOT have opted to willingly pay for PPI if I was not to receive any of the benfits....why would I pay for something I'm not going to get? Do I still have a case with this despite it showing I 'ticked' the box to opt in for PPI????0

As I have had my credit card for much longer than 6 years, maybe anything up to 10 - 15 years, is it worth me paying for a SAR's or will Lloyds go back further than 6 years and provide the original paperwork when I took out the credit card?0

This was a stand alone insurance, paid monthly to a different company and not attached to the loan, you went to them so it will be hard to prove mis sell, put a claim in with the reasons for mis sell and see what they come back with, send it to the insurer, you never know, you may get lucky.
Any suggestions anyone please?

think the reasons are identical for loan and cc
Most banks do mis sell over the phone,if you have a claim then get it in,good luck.0 -

Closed accounts with Egg would not have been passed over to Barclays, you need to SAR Egg

Enclose £10 and give them 40 days to reply, then put your complaint in.
Do the same with the RBS too,you need the info to show ppi,if you get this with the SAR they have to look at your claim.0
