PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

I havent been on for a few months, when i first got help applying against mis sold PPI on my Barclays C Card.
I got a reply with a very generous settlement.
The deatails are
A Refund of payments made for PPI 2,702.51
(This is the total of the monthly PPI payments made through to July 2011)
B Refund of interest Charged 6,958.41
C 8% Simple Interest per annum 2,248.20
D Total 11,909.12
As a said, a good amount.
However i first took the card out in 1992 and have paid PPI whenever there has been a balance on it since then. For the purposes of making their lives easier, they only need to go back over the last 6 years to 'calculate the value of payments made prior to 2005'. So they have used 2005-2011 to work out an average for 1992-2011.
Now during that 2005-2011 period i believe there was a fair period when i had transfered the balance on the card to another no interest one.
Basically i am not sure if the £2,702.51 'Refund on payments' is a true reflection of my total payments or not.
So can someone advise?
Can i challenge them and what could happen?
Is there a way i can find out exactly how much i spent on PPI since 1992?
Or shall i just accept since it is quite a large amount of money that would come in very handy at the moment?
A big thanks in advance.0 -

I took out a loan with Barclays in 1997, defaulted in 2000 due to a difficult pregnancy which the ppi wouldn't cover after I was made redundant. The debt was passed on to (i think) CDS? and I have made regular monthly payments of £5 ever since. Would I qualify for reclaiming ppi?
Thank you in advance for any help/advice
Just to add, I have moved house 3/4 times since (dd comes directly out of my bank account each month, always has) I wouldn't even know where to start in claiming back.
The interest was frozen on the account as well I think.0 -
Sent off FOS forms for Lloyds TSB and Citi for two loans dating from 2004 and 2006 respectively, both of which were paid up in 2009. I only had the last four digits of the account numbers from a credit report, but figured it was worth a go without doing a SAR first. I've now had letters back from both companies stating they are looking into my claims, with the full account numbers included :T - so looks like I saved £20 :j
Also contacted Capital One as I noticed I have PPI on my account. I can't beleive I never noticed it before! I am certain I never asked for it - as when I applied I noticed the question, and thought I was already covered by a policy from another card, which I though covered all registered cards (I never really understood it, and don't think I ever registered my C1 card with them, but thats not the point - I know I didn't ask for PPI on the application, and I know I didn't agree at any point since). So I've complained on those grounds, they have confirmed that they've cancelled the PPI on my account, and are looking into my complaint...

If this mortgage is paid off they dont have to provide you with a copy of the agreement, you could send a SAR,this will cost you £10,but you should get all your info.
If this mortgage is still running,i would have thought they would still have the info?.
Thank you for your reply. I have filled in & sent a form to them from the FSA Website. If i get no joy i follow the information in the link you posted. The mortgage is still running but with a different lender, however, the PPI payments continued to run for a few years afterwards0 -
So Nationwide are now joining in the rubbish spouted by the banks
* Their representatives were under no obligation to ask about my employee benefits
THEY WERE UNDER OBLIGATION TO ENSURE THAT THE POLICY WAS SUITABLE FOR YOUR NEEDS. THAT INCLUDES ASKING ABOUT WHAT OTHER COVER YOU HAD
* Their representatives are sufficiently trained & it was up to me to decide whether or not the policy met my needs.
IF THEY DID NOT ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS, THEY WERE NOT SUFFICIENTLY TRAINED
Use the list below AND make your claim for the full amount plus interest
*Did YOUR BANK explain the full cost of the PPI when you took out the loan?
*Did you specifically ask YOUR BANK for PPI?
*Did YOUR BANK make clear that PPI was optional?
*Did YOUR BANK ask you about your medical history?
*Did YOUR BANK ask you about any existing payment cover?
*Did you know that YOUR BANK added a PPI policy to your loan?
*Do you think YOUR BANK treated you fairly?
*Did YOUR BANK ask if you have any existing medical conditions?
*Did YOUR BANK ask if you were entitled to sick pay from your employer?
If you answered no to any one of the above you could be owed thousands of pounds
Well, I have had a reply from Nationwide to the questions above.
They replied saying 'their representative was only required to make sure we were eligible for cover and to provide us with sufficiently clear information to allow us to make our own decision regarding the suitability. They believe we were provided with adequate information and based on that we chose to purchase the cover'
They go on to say that we were provided with a policy document that detailed the cover benefits and exclusions and if we had changed our mind the cover could have been cancelled at any point. They advise the cover was arranged in accordance with the regulations in force at the time and there is no evidence of mis-selling.
Where do I go from here? Should I take to the Ombudsman? Do I have a valid claim?:(0 -
Further update. More movement at last. Spoken to a member of the FOS. My complaint should be resolved very soon, and I needed to answer a few things about my complaint for them. Light at the end of the tunnel?
Funny thing, I've claimed for 6 years (which in my case is now from 2002) but she was asking about statements back to 1996? Hmmmmm0 -
I'm getting really frustrated at the moment!
First Plus are saying that because we went through a broker, we need to take the PPI claim up with them, but surely seeing as we paid them for it and not the broker, they can't refund it?
We were definitely told we needed the PPI or it wouldn't be accepted. Why would it be in a broker's interest to tell us that? I remember querying it when it was on the agreement, and that's when I was told it was compulsory. I can't remember if I queried it directly with First Plus, or with the broker.
Any advice?0 -
Hi All
I have become a little stuck with my PPI reclaim. I now know which credit cards have charged me PPI.... But how do I know if this was mis-sold to me? I cant remember ever "opting" for PPI. I have had cards with Barclaycard, MBNA, Egg, Mint and Halifax to name but a few.
What is the next step once I know which lenders Ive paid PPI with?
Thank you so much for your help!0 -
They're now saying that one of the loans was taken through a 3rd party and so they aren't paying up, and the figure for the other one is lower......
If the third party is responsible for the mis sell, then they are right with what they have said.0 -
Hi Folks,
Firstly, sorry if this is in the wrong place.... I haven't posted on here for years (if ever) so please re-direct me if this is the case.
I'll try to keep this LONG story as short as possible.
Took out a mortgage with Sainsbury's Bank in Oct 1999.
Was unable to take to my 2nd home in July 2007 as sainsbury's no longer sold mortgages.
Settled the loan & re-mortgaged twice since then.
Decided to see if I was mis-sold PPI by Sainsbury's today, only to be faced with the following....
I have no paperwork so called Sainsbury's to get details.
Gave the operator my info & was told that she could see my account no, but wasn't allowed to give it to me.
Transferred 5 times & told no details for me on the system, I eventually got my account no!
Made a further 4 calls to various depts. to be told that my account no doesn't show up as it was a bank of scotland account.
Called BoS...1st person said no details about the loan. 2nd person said I didn't have PPI.
Funnily enough, I'm struggling to believe them now, so
has anyone else had a Sainbury's mortgage which was linked to BoS at around this time? (1999) If so, did you have PPI? (even if they called it something else).
Or have you had similar experiences with these companies, if so, how did you get them to tell the truth/supply you with the original agreement/documentation, without spending an eternity on the phone.... which has cost me an entire days wages.
Don't worry, if I find I have beeen mis-sold PPI, I intend to pursue loss of earnings too.... Simply because the lies have cost me a days wages, & because I had to argue with the first operator about whether or not Sainsbury's actually sold mortgages back then! (she finally believed me when I asked if she would forget who she had paid thousands of pounds to for seven years!):rotfl:
Thanks.
