  • Hi - I wonder if anyone can advise me. In 2000 my partner and I bought a house and took out a mortgage for £76K. An independent financial advisor arranged the mortgage and also arranged two policies for us - a joint Self Assurance Mortgage policy with Scottish Provident for approx £50 per month, covering 'Death, Critical Illness and Total permanent disability', and a Term Assurance policy with Legal and General for £10 per month, also covering death and terminal illness. My query is - do we really need both policies? Thanks.

Hi michael first thing you need to do is find out what the other insurance was, if it was ppi and you told them you did'nt want it and they told you you needed it/ added it without your permission you have a good case.

    Thanks for that.
I now believe that the other is for life cover, I don't have any dependants so wouldn't have seen a need to take this policy out, only reason was they said I had to get "protected" due to the high value of the loan.
Is this something that might be worthwhile pursuing?

    Many thanks.

Hi generally financial advisors are spot on advice wise, it really depends if you want and personally feel that you need the policies.

Hi michael as far as i know you can only claim on misold ppi not life cover. (unless of course it was rolled up into a payment protection insurance and of course you have reasons to believe you've been misold.)

    Hi there

Either write back and ask them to reconsider, because sometimes they will even change a final decision made, within good reasons.

Tell them your not happy and are asking if they will take another look, because even if it was signed its was only because you were informed it was not an option.
Try giving them as many details as possible, and ask if they can let you know by 14 days, if this fails again of if you hear nothing then contact the FOS.

Did the letter say if you were eligible to complain to the FOS or not?

Even if your not eligible such as for exmaple if the business were not regulated at the time you taken out the policy, the FOS may suggest to go the underwriter/insurer direction as another avenue, as they have done with others in the same position.

    Keep at them, good luck.:)
hi there they just told me that we had to go through FLA who deal with the underwriters for this ppi
  • hello

i received a rejection letter from Black Horse
I wrote back to them asking to look again using a load of key words and phrases found on the internet.
I havent heard anything back and its been 6 weeks

Do you think they are ignoring me? are the allowed to do this? what is the normal response time for a 2nd letter?
  • Just recently I received a letter from RBS about terms and conditions of my PPI which I must have had when I had a RBS credit card. I am wondering if I have a case and are they trying to send me this information so that I dont try to reclaim?

I know sometimes they have no intention of replying back to you blakey but Di and I have got a theory in that sometimes no news is good news, they could of course be just ignoring you but i don't see why they would as they know you'll only take it to the fos, why don't you give them a call. Good luck.

Hi there are lots of reasons for misold ppi, see if any apply to you in the link, many had t &c's and signed the ppi box but still managed to successfully claim misold.
