Hi - I have a similaer dilema re tax due on the 8% and dont really want to pay it TBH.
I am a higher rate tax payer and just wondered if you could let me have some info on how to avoid paying it please.
Thanks in advance.
Matty
Don't take this personally either, but I don't like paying the taxman anything from the ppi either, and I don't think anyone who wins will want to pay out any as we all feel that it is our money, but this is one of the many arguments against how this country is on it's knee's is when people who are in higher and even lower tax bands want to do as much as possible to avoid paying what they should pay. As I said don't take this personally but I hope you decide to pay your tax, at the end of the day if the bank takes this at source you won't get it so why not just pay it to the tax man if they don't do this.
of course if Beamer has a legitimate way of getting around this then I'm all for it, please share beamer to let me who is a lower tax band avoid paying it too:DThanks to all the competition posters.0 -
Avoid paying it at your peril Matty. Any banks that are paying it gross are being quized by HMRC and being asked for recipients details. They will catch up with you at a later date. It's only payable on the 8% so you might as well cough up whilst it's there to be able to do it with. I wouldn't risk it
GUYS, don't you find it disgusting that government wants a slice of THE action of the PPI FRAUD ...... David Cameron, get your act together, you are losing the plot now ...
QUESTION
Do HMRC want a share of FRAUD ???0 -

I agree with what Dilus have said in regards to paying it now, remember that if you avoid paying it now, they can issue a penalty or fine for not advising them of the extra income and tax due.

Hi smitchy, beamerguy and cappo. Am I missing something here ?
If the bank upholds your claim, pays you back the PPI that was front loaded, also pays you back whatever the APR that you have paid on that PPI over the loan period, then isn't the 8% standard interest a form of compensation and can be classed as income? because I can't see where you have paid this 8%Successes

Hi dilus, you have answered your question
"pays you back whatever the APR that you have paid"
you have already paid and tax is deducted at source0 -

I agree guys it is absolutely disgusting that they are taking this, and the robbing sods of the government could've done something to help this whole process of the relcaim and refunds but no because they are in the bankers back pockets, but while we are still prone to the powers of the HMRC and it can be proven that the act of fraud has been committed then yes they will take their 8%, maybe in 6 years we'll all be claiming back the tax that has been paid on this from HMRC as it is a fraud.
This is where raising the issues of the alleged fraud can be proven and those who have committed it and been charged, wheres the number for the serious fraud squad?
I would tell you all privately where I work(it is in law, although i'm not a legal person) but can't put it out publicly but when I go back to work in just over a week I will ask some of my colleagues about this. Depending on what they say I'll come back and let you all know, although the rules may be different up here in bonnie scotland. Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -
