PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

I just thought I'd get some advice what to do about my PPI. I have received the letter from Barclays today about the amount that I will get back from them and I'm really chuffed with the amount as it is a lot more than I expected. The amount I got back is a little more than the actual outstanding balance on my credit card and I'm not really sure if I should pay it all off now to be debt free or pay a certain amount and pay for a few things that have been put on hold due to lack of money in the last few years (dentist, driving license etc). Any advise would be very much appreciated. I know, that no one can make that decision for me but maybe hearing different ideas will make it a bit easier for me to make that final decision.
I have also written to Barclays regarding mis sold PPI, I have had 2 letters back, one saying they had received my letter and will get back to me in 12 weeks I think it was and the second basically saying they have not forgotten about me and still maintain to get back to me in the time frame set out in the first letter.
Did you also receive similar letters from Barclays and do you know how long it took roughly from sending your first letter to receiving an offer?

Good Morning this might seem a silly question, but does anyone know
are Barclays and First Plus now paying all claims whether you have a good claim or not or are they still contesting some0 -

Hello Phil
I've just had my CC claim with Barclaycard rejected, I put it in on the 2nd May so it was after the end of April 'no quibble' decision. The reasons were the same as those I gave to Halifax who upheld my claim last wee.
Got a feeling its not going to be so easy for those who put in claims after April.

Hi All
sorry for long letter but would appreciate if you's could have a look at it before I send, Cap 1 rejected my complaint saying I ticked box and I was eligible for ppi, I know I wouldn't have ticked it cause there was no other paperwork re ppi or anything it was just app form. The letter:
Dear Sir or Madam
Account No.
I am writing with regards to your letter dated 24th May 2011, obviously I am extremely disappointed that you believe the policy was sold appropriately whilst I appreciated that you have advised I can take my complaint further by contacting the Financial Ombudsman Service.
However before doing this I would like to give you the opportunity to reconsider your decision on the basis of the points below:
1. In your letter you refer to Terms and Conditions/Exclusions and Limitations
As already stated in my original complaint I have never received any policy leaflet about PPI and I certainly have never received any policy certificate or full policy document, which is why I never realised what it was nor knew about any 30 day cooling off period.
2. PPI Addition
You have referred to the fact that I apparently “ticked the box” to agree to this policy therefore I knew it was optional and made a conscious decision to purchase the PPI. Further to my original complaint I clearly remember completing the postal application form leaflet in 2000 as it was the first time I had applied for any sort of credit and I can say without any doubt that the only leaflet I had was the application form itself, which is why I know I would have left the box blank because I did not know what it was. However the FSA document PS10/12 Appendix 1 Final Handbook Text paragraph 3.3.5 states that “the firm should not reject a complainant’s account of events solely on the basis of signed documentation relevant to the purchase of the policy" – Your response seems to contradict this guidance as you are basing your decision on the fact I apparently “ticked the box”
3. You also refer to my eligibility criteria for the policy, considering I have never received anything in regards to the policy how would I have known if I was eligible or not.
4. You have also stated in your letter dated 24th May 2011 that enclosed is copy of the application form, PPI overview leaflet and policy document, none of which is included.
In addition to my recent subject access request some information I requested has not been enclosed therefore I require the following information immediately:
1. True copy of original application form, an exact copy of policy summary, certificate, and policy document allegedly sent with the benefits and exclusions, dated when my account was opened in June 2000.
2. True copy of signed Credit Agreement and conditions relating to date I opened account in June 2000.
3. Transcript of telephone calls dated 8th August 2010, 9th August 2010, 29th June 2002, 28th February 2003, 3rd May 2001, 23rd April 2001, 29th March 2001, 15th December 2000, 22nd September 2000, 16th August 2000 and 23rd July 2000.
4. Copy of letter dated 30th January 2007.
5. Meanings of the memo types and descriptions.
6. Also date my first card was activated in 2000, as cards activated at later dates are noted.
7. Full details of Product info (shown on screen print) stating the start and end date of policy, which seems to contradict the start date of the policy in which you stated previously.
I trust this matter will be dealt with urgently and I await your response within 10 days.
Yours sincerely
Hope someone can advise, thanks in advance0 -
I had my offer letter on 3rd August and returned the same day from Black Horse. Interest was calculated up to today and the letter states that "the interest has been calculated at 8% simple on each payment made towards the cost of the policy calculated from the date that we received the payment to the date that we pay the redress. This has been calculated to a date 4 weeks from now to allow us sufficient time to process the refund on the assumption that you return the acceptance confirmation to us within the next two weeks".
Well, As I said before the letter was returned on the 3Rd August by recorded delivery (it was dated 29th July) the money is not yet in my account, surprise surprise, so I finally arrive at my question lol, do the banks pay via BACS or faster payment as the payment is not showing as going in on Tuesday either ( which my wages are which are paid by BACS).
I requested it was paid direct to my account as the loan is still current so was given the option of my account or cheque.
Sorry for rattling on0 -
Slightly delayed update. I've finally submitted my complaint to FOS. A part of me didn't really want to bother but hubby convinced me that there was no point starting something and not finishing it. So I've done it. I'm not confident though, as clearly I did sign the box for PPI to be added.
Is there any connection between this and Capital One upping my credit limit?SPCNo.18 #20 (17 £562.86 16 £678; 15 £1120.92; 14 £416.53; 13 £191.52; 12 £260.48; 11 £480.95; 10 £682.31; 9 £442.64)

I have a claim with Barclays for a loan & also with Barclaycard .
Both claims were submitted on 10th of May.
I just rang for an update , I am hoping someone can help explain what was said to me .
Regarding the loan , apparently this is in the final stages , the latest update according to the advisor , is that there is some thing called a "cost card" attached to the activity. Does this mean they are calculating a refund?
Regarding the Barclaycard , they say this one is more complicated (I have had the card since 1997) , and that it has been referred to something called the "Barclaycard complex department " , does anybody know what this means ?
Should I get my hopes up ?0 -

Yes mate its sounds positive.
The calculations on a CC going back to 1997 will be a nightmare. The whole account has to be restructured with and without the ppi.
Every payment will be looked at. The ppi will be refunded thats the easy part. Calculating the ineterst on each payment will depend on the account being in credit or not (technically) if your in their debt you get the card interest if they are in your deby then you get 8%.
