PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

That's no problem, I just wanted to make sure it was clear I wasn't trying to swindle!
Hi bex it's not a swindle wanting your money back,if your loan or credit card was missold to you by the bank it's not their money,it's yours and you should never have been deprived of the use of your money in the first place. If you purchased a worthless policy you were swindled out of your money and your only getting back what is already yours,it's not charity, the money was never rightfully the banks bex (if you were missold)0 -

Direct Line - I had a loan with them a few years ago but couldnt find the account number, I sent off a letter with a cheque for £1. They have now written back to me stating that they cannot trace the account without the account number, please provide us with the account number and they will search their records. They then go on to say "please also be aware that processing such request for a close account requires a fee of £10 by cheque made payable to "The Royal Bank of Scotland Group". Now do I need to find the account number before sending off the £10 or if I send this will they then be able to find the account number - I am a bit confused now!!
Capital One - in my naivity before finding this site I applied through a company for the return of my PPI on a credit card with Capital One. I didnt hear anything from this company for weeks (still not either to be honest) so I thought they had forgotton so decided to send the form off myself. Capital One have now written back stating that they sent me a final response letter dated 14.4.2011 to Ashworth Law and enclosed a copy apologising if I hadnt got this letter. So on two accounts I am annoyed I dont now know if Ashworth Law are doing anything about it or where I stand. Capital One in this letter state that I opened a credit card account via a postal application and ticked the PPI box, and then go on to say that they have found no evidence of a mis-sale and that details of the policy were in the leaflet enclosed about the PPI and that it was always stated on my monthly statements and that during this time I had an option to cancel this policy free of charge. There is also quite a lot that they say. Now I probably did tick the box as I would have been worried that I wouldnt be accepted if I hadnt, I never actually needed this PPI but didnt realise at the time. Do you think it would be worth me now contacting the FOS or do you think that there would be no point - plus I dont even know if this Ashworth Law have contacted the FOS or not. They never informed me that they had received this letter at all.
Be very careful with a claims management company, have you signed a contract, you should have signed a no win no fee so the cmc will only recover a fee if you win your case, if cap 1 rejects your case then ashworths contract should be null and void, you can then take it forward with the fos, i have done this with 1 of my cap 1 cases.0 -

No votes of confidence to Cap 1 or Claim companies...I had a company reclaiming on my behalf to Cap 1. The company ceased trading, and when I began my own claim, I found a letter from Cap 1 to the company giving a final decision as no!! (The letter was six months old!):mad:
Cap 1 seem to be very difficult to deal with, but I won't let them put me off, as I know that they have been fined for mis selling, so some claims must be upheld,
Good luck!:)0 -
If I send the SAR off do I need to have the account number or is this part of what the £10 is for? I wouldnt really know how to find the account number otherwise.
As for Capital One, I think my best way forward is to contact the claims company and if they havent done anything about this then to contact the FOS myself. I work for the NHS and shouldnt ever have needed PPI, the knew that I worked for the NHS too as they have put in my letter what my work is. My son got his claim back from Cap 1 with no problem, and very quickly, but was only for £30!!! Mine goes back to the year 2000 so I expect it will be a tad more than that amount so I just think that is why they have kicked it out.0 -
This will not surprise anyone, I am sure, but thought I would share it anyway...
Speaking recently to someone who used to work in banking,..( one with the black horse...)..he confirmed that in the heyday of selling loans with PPI, it was made VERY clear to bank staff , ( although not written down) that 90% of loans sold should have PPI sold too!
Big targets, eh? Oh..and lots of bonuses....Doesn't it make your blood boil??:mad:0 -

Over 8 weeks has passed since my first PPI claim (credit card) was lodged against Lloyd's TSB.
I was told in a phone call that a decision would be made by the 7th of June. Well, they kept to their word, but all they decided to do was send me another letter to say that they needed more time.
I called Lloyds TSB to see what the current situation was, and a woman told me that they are going through the claims by date order. Fair enough I thought. Then she told me that they were currently on the month of October :rotfl:
So basically it's going to be some time before I and the rest of you claiming against Lloyds TSB get a result.
It's funny how some banks take just a couple of weeks to deal with PPI claims (Santander, MBNA), whilst others (like Lloyds TSB) drag things out for as long as possible.
Rather frustrating, but I'm just going to have to be patient.2018 wins: Hong Kong holiday0 -

Have you looked at your credit report or, if you have online banking you could check there.0 -

Don't worry amersall, I'll be hanging tight with this one. I'll only go down the FOS route if my claim is rejected. Thanks for the advice anyway2018 wins: Hong Kong holiday0
