It is a pity, as the genuine claimers are in the line with the timewasters.
I would charge people who put a try it on claim in, then the numbers will drop.
CMC do this, they put some claims in and hope they win!!.

That is so wrong,Its taking long enough to get claims through as it is.

He says they did know about the fact he was going off to uni again, that was the main reason for the loan after all, he also reckons it was 2 or 3 months between loan start and leaving his job.

Also, I should add that I don't intend to just have a try at this regardless of whether I think it was missold. I am currently trying to find the reason that the banks need, because we both know he doesn't need that insurance and that he should never have taken it, the problem is that he doesn't take much convincing, so they may not have had to do any hard selling, just omission of some of the facts.

PS - boyfriend, not hubby, doesn't affect much, just saying :P

Sorry, i thought your boyfriend was your husband,I see what you mean about waiting for your t&c's it certainly on the level though seems as if the ppi was totally unsuitable as if your boyfriend left work after only several months and the bank was told about him leaving, the ppi was unlikely to have been ever claimed on. And no you should,nt put in a claim unless your sure,It does sound as if you do have suitable reasons for it having been missold though,I,m sorry if i gave you the idea i meant for you to put in a chance claim on a missale, That would be morally wrong as there not going to be all missold policies.

That's no problem, I just wanted to make sure it was clear I wasn't trying to swindle!

I spoke to Santander about 4 claims on the Wednesday afternoon and recieved an offer in the post on Saturday morning for one of them. 2 weeks later for the second and I am still waiting for them to decide on the others.

RBS, Halifax are taking their time. But I think Santander are quick off the mark as they know full well they are liable for Abbey, Alliance & Leicester and GE. Its the GE ones that now outstanding but well within the prescribed timescales.

    Good luck.
  • I am not doing very well with my claims!!! I had two letters today, as follows:

Direct Line - I had a loan with them a few years ago but couldnt find the account number, I sent off a letter with a cheque for £1. They have now written back to me stating that they cannot trace the account without the account number, please provide us with the account number and they will search their records. They then go on to say "please also be aware that processing such request for a close account requires a fee of £10 by cheque made payable to "The Royal Bank of Scotland Group". Now do I need to find the account number before sending off the £10 or if I send this will they then be able to find the account number - I am a bit confused now!!

Capital One - in my naivity before finding this site I applied through a company for the return of my PPI on a credit card with Capital One. I didnt hear anything from this company for weeks (still not either to be honest) so I thought they had forgotton so decided to send the form off myself. Capital One have now written back stating that they sent me a final response letter dated 14.4.2011 to Ashworth Law and enclosed a copy apologising if I hadnt got this letter. So on two accounts I am annoyed I dont now know if Ashworth Law are doing anything about it or where I stand. Capital One in this letter state that I opened a credit card account via a postal application and ticked the PPI box, and then go on to say that they have found no evidence of a mis-sale and that details of the policy were in the leaflet enclosed about the PPI and that it was always stated on my monthly statements and that during this time I had an option to cancel this policy free of charge. There is also quite a lot that they say. Now I probably did tick the box as I would have been worried that I wouldnt be accepted if I hadnt, I never actually needed this PPI but didnt realise at the time. Do you think it would be worth me now contacting the FOS or do you think that there would be no point - plus I dont even know if this Ashworth Law have contacted the FOS or not. They never informed me that they had received this letter at all.

What the bank sound like there talking about is a £10.00 full sar (subject access request) this is when you pay the bank a tenner and they then have to give you all the info they hold on you which includes any taped conversations, electronic data, hard copy data, this varies from bank to bank (i had hsbc trace accounts going back 10 years, Ltsb went back over 17 years on there systems they should all have computer records going back at least to the early 90's a sar is worth while if you have loans and credit with the same bank i.e 2 or 3 loans, credit cards etc. as to capital one it is very hard to prove a missale with cap 1,i,ve had to escalate my claim to the ombudsman as my adjudicator will not accept i've a case even though she's admitted by letter that cap 1 never gave me full t&c's etc, there all classed as non advised sales which leaves the onus on you to prove that the ppi was not suitable, although some of them have been missold and people do have success with them, put it in to the fos,see what they say, although in all fairness you might have to accept a not upheld but it's worth a try:)
