Hi, I had a loan with Lloyds which I took out 10 years ago and paid back within 1 year. I paid ppi but have a medical condition that meant I would not have been covered. Do I have a case or has it been left too long? Thanks for your advice

Hi all, I am just starting on the long road of seeing if we can reclaim anything from the PPI on my partner's loan, what I am confused about is whether cancelling the PPI would affect chances of getting anything back for mis-selling (I reckon it was, waiting for the T&Cs to try and get a clearer picture). We want to move soon, and canceling it would appear to be a quicker way of getting his payments down for now, but obviously reclaiming it would get more money back - or do some banks (we're talking Lloyds...) give back everything if you cancel it anyway?

Tbh, I am incredibly confused and would be grateful for any help available, I've read the guide three or four times now, but am totally lost!

    dear mr baker

im am writing to update you regarding our investigations as it has been four weeks since we received your complaint

we are currently working with other departments to enable us to progress your complaint.

in the mean time if you wish yo discuss your complaint further please contact us with the details provided

as stated previously stated iof we are unable to resolve your complaint to your satisfaction with in 8 weeks of receipt we will contact you again and explain why

thank you for your continued patience

mmm more stalling tactics oh how i envy the people that have had a refund with out problem lol

    Good morning.:D

As you will know 8 weeks is the normal timescale they have, so they will mention this as a normal procedure, however, it does not mean it will go all the way to 8 weeks and you can still possibly hear anytime now over the coming week with a bit of luck.

So I look at it as not a rejection at earlier stages and fingers crossed there is success on the way.;)

    Well I now have clarification.

The reference to a client is a typo for which they apologise. The passing onto HSBC is valid although only in terms of final liability as Halifax are still administering the complaint on behalf of HSBC.

It seems like Halifax staff wear different hats depending on the liability and who is claimed against in terms of PPI.

Why can they not just speak plainly and man up!

Well more envelopes in the post today and another offer from Santander for £1372. Thats a total of £2869 and all the result of one 10 minute phone call. And Santander still have 2 more investigations on the go with GE loans and cards.

    Hello there

With having a pre med condition at the time this was taken out, then for this case the policy would be worthless to you, so you would not be able to make a claim for this actual illness/condition.

You can of course try to reclaim because of this reason, my point here is even though they may try to say, your still protected for unemployment why should you pay out for something that is not fully covering you.

To make a reclaim, follow the procedures directly on Lloyds website, (its the same as the procedures on here), but has all the details of address etc.
Questionnaire - send to the address shown on Lloyds website once completed and keep copies, allow 8 weeks for a decision, good luck.

    Hi there

If cancelling after the cooling period, its unlikely to reduce by hardly much, if cancelled within the cooling period - normally 30 days after taking out the loan, then they would have reduced this just down to the loan without the ppi on it.

So if you have a case for being mis sold, they should then when successful reduce the balance to just to loan without the ppi.

Its known that if you want to cancel after the cooling period, they suggest another loan without the ppi to pay off the existing loan, yet this may work out more to borrow because of the ppi included on the balance of the existing loan, however, you do have the right to cancel anytime.

If you need to make a reclaim, as in my above post, follow the procedures directly on lloyds website, completing the reclaim questionnaire.

hope this helps, good luck and all the best on your move.

  • Hi guys. First time poster here!

I think I have a valid claim regarding PPI as I've had a couple of loans in the last 6 years that I paid insurance on. However, I no longer have the paperwork (once the loan is paid, I shred!)

Instead of writing to my bank could I go into my branch and request the T's & C's?

Looking forward to receiving any and all advice.

Hi, the medical condition I had was prior to taking the loan and ppi and if they'd asked about a medical condition I'd have told them. I've only found in the last couple of years that my condition wouldnt have been covered. Will I be able to claim that far back?

    Hi and welcome

First of all what you could do is call into your local bank, if your loan repayments came out of your bank this may allow you to go back some years.
Any loan account numbers are normally shown next to the monthly loan repayment.
If you bank online this may allow you to go back to 2002 or so.

However, if you want to double check if you had ppi you can write to request for a copy of your agreement, this normally includes the t&c's, enclose £1 cheque or postal order, if you do not have the account number then give them as many details as possible.

But there is no harm in calling into your bank and speaking to the branch manager who should be able to check your account details by just using your bank account number.

    Good luck.
