hi there i have just been looking through old threads and noticed in october 2008 the fos were treating complaints against first plus as a whole, the user thought they may be going into liquidation or something? i have a complaint in with fp and when you telephone them they say thank you for calling uk secured lending!not thank you for calling first plus! something odd there i think. does anyone know why!!

Well, A&L have FINALLY sent me my cheque - SEVEN WEEKS after the final response date of 21 December.

Now I want to hit them with my previous loan taken out in July 03 (am aware recent ruling doesnt cover this) and have a couple of questions.

Im assuming that the process was the same, all was front loaded and paid in equal monthly installments. When settle in Jan 05 (with the new loan) the remaining PPI (and assoc interest) woould have been paid off (I assume)

I dont know how much the loan was for exactly, but have copy of my credit file which states payment was £240 a month (I know it wasnt this exact figure) This loan was based over 36 months.

Would it be possible (knowing the balance would be approx £9K in total) to calculate an estimated refund figure based on the above? (even if its a close stab in the dark)

Thanks in advance (and for all your previous help again - am £900 better off for it)

    Hi There

If you look back on this thread for Incipience they know lots about First Plus. As well as others on this site but Incipience seems bit of an expert.

I have been offered more than one account from the RBS when I was with them. These accounts include
    1. overdraft interest charges
    2. maintenance charges
    3. referral fee/charges
I have been with the RBS since 1993. The bank initially offered me a basic account. This was later upgraded by a member of staff when she called me at home. I was made an appointment to see her in the branch. As I went to see her at the branch, she told me that I always have maintained my account and I always have kept my account in credit. She said she can offer me a cheque guarantee current account with a £100 debit card facility. The interest paying account had changed my finance completely. Every month I was paying RBS service charge for that! I have the bank monthly statement to prove it which date back to 1997.
The RBS then offered me Royalties Gold account in 1998 which did not make much difference than the "interest paying account". I was still occurring the "service" charges every month on this account. The bank put me back onto the "interest paying account” on or around 2002 again. I did not understand these charges and am still baffled on this subject.
I also took a personal loan from RBS in jul-2002 which had occurred a compulsory charge of "insurance loan repayments" of £49.59 a month. I made two months repayments in months of jul02 and Aug02.

I paid it all back to RBS on OCT-2002 after taking a cheaper Loan from the EGG. In this process I had been subject to early-repayment penalty which means I lost two months of payments to RSB.

Later on, I had to apply for a little more loan from EGG again to re-consolidate the debt and this time my repayments were hitting the roof. I was making£290.00 every month to EGG. It did have the so-called insurance which was sold to me as "must" have to have it!!

As a direct result of making huge payments to the lenders, reduction in my working hours due to medical reasons and ultimately loss of job, I filed Bankruptcy in sep2006 which was discharged a year later(would have been discharged after six months but the official receiver sent the letter to my old address).

Can anyone help me to understand these charges or anyone has had similar experience! I wish to know if I stand any chance of re-imbursement of these unlawful charges!!

    My response...

I do not feel your letter has offered a satisfactory justification that my policy was sold fairly, reasonably and within my best interests so I request that you look into my complaint again. Regardless of whether my complaint fits into your time bracket it still requires investigation. From your statement I am to assume that my protection was sold fairly when one week or two later it was sold unfairly! I surely cannot be expected to believe this response.

If I do not receive a more favorable response within 14 days I shall be taking my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman.

    ... satifactory?

    Good luck with this.
    Hope they change their minds.;)

Sorry I am not the one for calculations, but I am sure maybe Marshallka or Turbo will take a look when they have 5.

Good luck with the next one as well.;)
