the insurance got cancelled last year when I sold the house and paid off the mortgage but that still means that they've had 5 years of payments from me.

Hi there, did your oh do his own tax returns, or did he pay tax and ni through his payslips?. If he does his own ni and tax return every year then he was self employed, if not then he was employed by the company, hope this helps.
Hi thanks, i do want to give it another try as it was only their usual brush off first response.
Do i need to ask for a copy of his agreement do you think and also do you know whether using an umberella company for work means you are classed as self employed? If it does i guess i will have much more of a leg to stand on as it were.
Thanks again.0 -
Hi I beleive my insurance on my credit card is useless. I am a self employed decorator and my work is always short term contracts. Looking at my policy it says I should be in continuous for so many days..... blah, blah, blah before making a claim.
Is it possible I was wrongly sold this over the phone, would I need to cancel the insurance before claiming?
Thanks0 -

Hello there
I would check your policy to see if it covers for self employment, as some does and others do not, however if your not actually working above the stated hours, 16 or 18 or more a week, then it may be like you said worthless to you.
You can cancel at any time, many wait until its all resolved on making a reclaim, but that is up to you of course.
If this was sold over the phone you could also ask them to provide you with a copy of the telephone conversations, it sold in the last recent years they may still hold these details.
To make a reclaim you can either write a letter in your own words, or use the reclaiming questionnaire that replaced the template letter on this site.
Stage on of reclaiming here;
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#reclaim
Send to whoever sold you the policy, head office or complaints dept and keep copies of everything you send and receive, you never know if you have to go back to it again at some point.
They normally have 8 weeks to give a decision, but may ask for more time.
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"

you should get back all your premiums and the 8% simple interest as well,
well done on getting your money back.:beer:I'm proud to say that the banks no longer take money from me after becoming debt free0 -

boredsailor wrote: »Hi all,
First time blogger so please excuse me if I don't quite stick to the rules. My query is regarding my outstanding complaint against Lloyds TSB on the issue of reclaiming my PPI charges from my Credit Card account.
The whole process thus far has taken approximately 18 months and there now seems to be light at the end of the tunnel albeit shrouded in a slight mist of grey.
To avoid the niff naff and trivia, the application form for my Credit Card was not completed by my hand. Only by answering questions posed by the Lloyds TSB employee did the application get completed and all of a sudden there appeared a tick in the "Wish to apply for PPI" box. I know this to be the case as the application form isn't even in my hand writing!!
Anyway, after rejecting my claim, Lloyds TSB recommended that I contact the FOS which of course I did. Their most recent letter states, "...I wrote to Lloyds TSB on 28 January 2010 explaining my reasons for upholding this complaint and recommending that it makes a settlement to you. I have also recommended that Lloyds TSB should pay you £200 compensation for distress and inconvenience.
Lloyds TSB have not responded to my view therefore the complaint will now be referred to one of our ombudsman for a final decision"
My question is threefold:
1) As Lloyds TSB have not responded to the FOS, does this prove that they admit liability and that I was in fact missold PPI?
2) If the FOS have recommended Lloyds TSB make a settlement to me, does this mean I should receive all PPI premiums IN FULL that I have paid out?
3) As the case has been referred to an ombudsman, is there a chance that the decision will be reversed and the FOS will in fact find in favour of Lloyds TSB?
Fingers crossed this is the home straight and it proves to be a successful outcome however if anybody could shed some light on the three issues above it would be much appreciated.
Glad to hear they've finally coughed up
... even it it is almost a year after they were told to."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
I know I should be able to do it myself and there is a lot of helpful info/ templates etc available.
But for personal reasons I really do not feel up to doing this myself.
There are lots of firms specialising in reclaiming and I know they will take a fee. But how to find one that is trustworthy and does not charge an extortionate amount?
thanksStop looking for answers....
The most you can hope for are clues.....:)0
