Hi all, I am trying to decide weather to claim for ppi. 2 years ago i had a massive paycut and got into a bit of difficulty repaying my credit cards. I now have a payment agreement with the credit card companies and am wondering if i can claim for ppi against these companies and if there will be any repercussions with regard to the payment agreements i have with them if i do claim. If i am succesful the money would go to paying off some of the debts. Hope someone can shed any light on this matter. many thanks
Hi there
Think I just left a post for you in regards of this matter.;)
They have a lenders code to follow and should treat their customers fairly, however some have opened new accounts elsewhere to be on the safe side but it should be okay.
I have also posted some links to help you through this on the other thread you posted, so hope it helps, post up for any further help if required and the best of luck.:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hello.
I took out a loan on 21st May 2004 with British Gas. It was advertised at 6.9% as I remember and that was a good deal at the time.
I remember the phone call clearly because a number of things stood out as not feeling right even then.
The loan was for 6500 sterling and was an unsecured personal loan.
I had previously taken financial advice with my partner and had been advised that I could save money cancelling various insurances that covered sickness because as we were both employed by the NHS, the pension benefits relating to sickness were well able to cover any loan or cards we had should something shocking happen.
Anyway, after splitting from my partner I desperately needed the loan to dissolve some ties and set myself up and so I called the rapid answer hotline and arranged an 24 hour courier service to bring me my cheque and paperwork.
During the conversation I was told I would need to take out the payment protection. When I explained my status with my pension benefits the chap at the other end of the line said that payment protection was a requirement to purchase the product under the terms of the advertisement.
Knowing no better but still a little irritated I agreed to meet the apparent terms of the deal.
Just after he had confirmed things (one of those script readings confirming age, DOB payment length and cost etc etc) he ended the conversation saying that 'and due to your current financial circumstances this has come out with an APR of 7.7%' and the conversation was ended.
I was slightly surprised by the final comments but all this irritation paled when the nice man came the next day with all my papers and money in, as I remember, a golden envelope.
The loan has since been paid off in full with no defaults, however at some point another company appeared to take on British Gas loans.
My questions are these.
1. Do I have a claim? The loan was taken out just over 6 years ago and has already been paid off.
2. Is it worth disputing the APR? I know the the APR of 7.7% was not the advertised APR but I cannot say what the advertised rate was (I'm 80% sure it was 6.9%) and I don't know what part of my 'financial status necessitated this rise.
3. Who do I complain to? British Gas was not the company that sent my final statements.
I have all of my original paperwork including the Credit Agreement which details my PPI, the overall interest on the loan and the total amount to pay, however I have no idea where I put the stuff from the company that apparently took over.
I was thinking of using one of those agencies. AM I right in thinking that if they !!!!!! up the claim I couldn't then try and do it properly myself?
Thank you in advance.0 -
Hello all, we're new to this PPI stuff (i posted this on the wrong thread before) as we've only just learnt that we were mis-sold the PPI on a £20k Halifax Loan started in Dec 07.
We were told by the person at the Halifax that we would not be accepted for the loan if we did not take the PPI. We did tell them that we wouldnt need it as we both get full sick pay form our jobs and are also covered by medicash for injury and other things but they pushed and pushed that we wouldnt get the loan without the insurance!
I feel sick to the stomach that something that added £6500 to an already huge loan should not have been sold to us!
Sending our first letter to the Halifax today, recorded delivery so wish us luck x0 -
Hello All........
It's been a while since I originally posted this message (message number 13245)......... latest news is :
Letter from Barclays on 9th September acknowledging my complaint, saying they would get back to me as soon as possible, but no later than 1st October 2010.
Letter from Barclays on 29th September, promising they would get back with a full response by 29th October ...
It's now November 4th and nothing heard from Barclays....
Wonder what best course of action would be: In their letter they give a phone number, should I wish to contact them. Thing is, I don't want to get fobbed off
when speaking to anyone. Should I write to them again and give them a specific date by which they MUST reply, or what ?
Any advice / guidance would be most appreciated.
Thanks :-)0 -

1. Do I have a claim? The loan was taken out just over 6 years ago and has already been paid off.
Yes you do have a claim.Look here for reasons that apply to you

2. Is it worth disputing the APR? I know the the APR of 7.7% was not the advertised APR but I cannot say what the advertised rate was (I'm 80% sure it was 6.9%) and I don't know what part of my 'financial status necessitated this rise.
No i am afraid, all loans apr are subject to status, and you agreed the terms.
3. Who do I complain to? British Gas was not the company that sent my final statements.
Yes you send your complaint to bg as they were the ones that set up the loan.
I have all of my original paperwork including the Credit Agreement which details my PPI, the overall interest on the loan and the total amount to pay, however I have no idea where I put the stuff from the company that apparently took over.
When you put your claim in send copies of any info you have and send recorded.
I was thinking of using one of those agencies. AM I right in thinking that if they !!!!!! up the claim I couldn't then try and do it properly myself?

Thank you in advance.0
