Hi just wondering if anyone can help, sent off template and copies of documents held by myself for PPI claim on a loan taken out with Freedom (Wilmslow Finance) my wife was self employed at the time, even says it on there initial paperwork, anyway sent letter waited eight weeks had another letter, saying should have a response soon as its been over eight weeks I can contact FOS, anyway letter came yesterday saying they have checked phone recordings etc and we agreed to it st thye time my wife said it was ok to have even though she was self employed etc
My concern is that I made the contact and dealt with most of the paperwork etc, so I dont believe they have these so called recordings they have offered £500.00 as a good will gesture because the loan was paid off early and we recieved some money back and this was a PPI refund, we just need to sign some paperwork and can have a cheque straight away but must keep all corresponadance confidential unless needed by solicitor, have also said if we are not happy we can contact FOS, we would of been looking in the region of £2,500 plus interest
any advice as what to do next as I cant remember my wife talking to them on the phone or the refund have checked my bank and the wifes and cant see any payment being made into either account from when they are saying the loan was paid off0 -

they are fobbing you off.
if they have done nothing wrong they will not offer you a goodwill gesture.
if it were me i would write back to them requesting a copy of the recording they say they have as you seriously dispute what they are saying, tell them you do not feel they have investigated your complaint properly and that you are giving tham a further opportunity to do it before refering your complaint to the FOS.
you are entitled to a copy of the said recording of your wife, (you may need your wife to request this) under the data protection act. they can not refuse you this.
i did this with Lloyds and thier goodwill gesture of £560 soon went up to £3.5k
good luck and let us know how you get on.I'm proud to say that the banks no longer take money from me after becoming debt free0 -

I have received letter today from LlyodsTSB. They have turned down my claim as they say I would have benefited from the ppi, life cover, positive job solutions and hospitalisation cover.
When I took out credit card I was not working as I was looking after my husband. I was not getting carer's allowance.I made the advisor aware of this. So there was no chance of me becoming employed.
I was also in hospital while I was paying ppi and was unawre I could make a claim.
I did not know that ppi was optional and that I could cancel it( bit of a div I think ).
LloydsTSB state this is their final response and that my complaint is closed.
Could some kind person please advise me what I should do next.0 -
I've recently been in contact with my bank (Barclays) regarding PPI charges on a few loans that I had taken out. When I sent the initial letters I got no reply after the 8 week period so I decided to send off the Second letter. A week has now passed and i've received some questionairres that the bank has asked me to fill in and return to aid in the investigation of issues i've raised, they've also stated that the matter will be addressed before the end of the month.
Is this a common practice from this particular bank?0 -

Hi,
I was hoping for a little advice,
I made a claim against PPI sold to me when taking out 2 loans with HSBC on the grounds that I was not informed by the salesperson on either occassion that the PPI was infact optional.
They held me off with letters saying 4 weeks needed to investigate my claim, then another 4 weeks, then another 4 weeks. They went over the deadline that THEY gave me prompting me to phone them.
Today I recieved a letter from them informing me that they were not upholding my complaint on the grounds that within the information pack they gave me when taking out each of the loans was the explaination that I could cancel the PPI within 30 days of taking out the policy, they also enclosed the paperwork that i signed at the time.
I know that I can send off the second template letter for them to look into my complaint again, and I can go to the FOS, but on the grounds of my complaint, do I have a strong enough case to warrant the refund I require?
Any views welcome0 -

The fact that you had a cancellation notice is irrelevant as far as your complaint is concerned. This is a result of the contract that was sold to you incorrectly in the first place.
Everyone on this site has had a cancellation notice issued to them and if we all agreed with the view of HSBC then no one on here would have ever been refunded a penny.
Take what they have said with a pinch of salt because that is all it is worth. It is a corporate response which is intended to make you go away.
You have an excellent case so dont give up.0 -
