Hello All, can anyone tell me what I can do about a PPI policy that was kept in place even though the loan was paid off? Supposedly they sent some money back at the end of 5 years to our address that we were at when we had the loan but we had moved 2 years earlier?? So never received this. Not sure this money was sent because we didnt claim on it , but we never got it.

Not really sure what advice I am looking for so any is appreciated!

    Hi there,

Am a little nervous as I've not done this before... but would really appreciate some advice on how to reclaim PPI from Firstplus.

We took out a loan for £15,000 in Sept.03 with PPI of £3,673.50 to be repaid over 10 years. A year later we requested a settlement figure which came back showing:-

Total to pay under Agreement £26,596.62
Less rebate for early settlement - £8,591.25
    Plus admin charge £150.00
    Total amount to settle £18,155.37

Nearly cried.... couldn't believe we'd barely paid off £500! Requested another settlement figure in 07 and using the same format as before it came out at £15,370.68 was gobsmacked still hadn't gone down below the original loan amount!! Really feel like we've been had in some way by Firstplus.

Tried to reclaim in 08 stating pressured to take PPI but they sent copy of phone call showing not the case (Advisor asked if wanted insurance, husband said yes) so threw away details in frustration! Can't recall if they explained he didn't have to take their insurance, or that only he was insured on the Policy even though loan was in both our names. Got a partial refund of insurance as we didn't claim on it and used this to pay off some of the loan amount which now means it finishes in August this year.

Have read about Rule 78 which has been banned and wondered if we could reclaim using this? Having a sinking feeling that this just isn't going to happen for us... but would really appreciate your thoughts or suggestions. Annie22

ps Have read a post that states because Firstplus were members of GISC since Nov.01, FOS now deals with claims about them from that date onwards.

    Hi Annie

    Its very frustrating isn't it?

If they sent a final response and have not upheld in your favour, I would therefore take this to the FOS.
These type of policies are frowned upon and I feel you have a good case here, and the FOS would uphold in your favour - if you don't mind waiting a while, as they do have backlogs to go through, and it could all be worthwhile in the end.
Yes I believe these were covered by GISC before the FSA taken over, the FOS will be able to clarify this to you over the phone, so do ring them and check on this first if you want to, and you can either arrange for them to post out a complaint form (if given the final response) or you can download and print the form online from their website here:
    http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/consumer/complaints.htm
and to contact them - here:
    http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/contact/index.html

Of course if this was not the final response, write back and ask them to reconsider, tell them you are aware that these costly policies are frowned upon, and with that reason of also of the PPI protecting the loan for 5 years, and you would still have to pay for the ppi for the life of the loan, you need to tell them if you were aware of this (if this is also the case) that you certainly would not have taken the ppi, and if you were informed on the sale that it was optional.
You can also tell them if you were aware of this you would have looked elsewhere for a cover to protect the loan for the life of the actual loan and not just that of 5 years.

You can then enclose a copy of the decision if they still not upheld in your favour with within the FOS complaints form.

I would also be tempted to request for a copy of the phone recordings, as if they would kindly send you these, good luck.;)

please please please.. take a look at this website firstpluscomplaints.co.uk this is for disgruntled fp customers you can still claim mis sold ppi they will not have a recording with your hubby being told that it only covers you for the first 5 years but you will pay it for the remaining term with interest, or that you dont have to take this and tell you to try somewher else. i can guarantee they wont have any of that info, you go for mis sell. these front loaded policys are a rip off and fos are upholding 99% of all fp cases. write to fp and tell them you are claiming mis sell for the reasons stated and you want a full refund of ppi plus interest. when you get the reply post again and i will tell you whats next to do if they refuse. you cancelled the ppi and got a very small rebate, but do you know the ppi is still on your loan for the remaining term? its a rip off, please take a look at the website fp complaints, you wont be sorry i promise you , good luck with this and keep us posted x

  • I have claimed PPI back on 3 of my credit cards I had and got around £300.

I then decided to use the form on this site for the Financial Ombudmans to try and claim back my PPI for my AIB bank loan. It took about 6-7 months I think and I got a call yesterday from the ombudmans saying that my bank were refunding me all the money I had paid for my PPI and any future money I would be paying for same as I will be paying the same on my loan! I am now waiting on a cheque for...wait for it....£3,900!!!! This site is a godsend and should be awarded a medal!!!!

I am so happy!! So people just perservere and dont give up!! You WILL and CAN get your money back!!!!

    Good luck!!!!!
