I'm a [STRIKE]tax abuser[/STRIKE] local government officer, in effect, although at least at the moment I actually work for a non-profit organisation that councils subscribe to, rather than directly for a particular council.
A very brief summary of my job: I analyse proposed new laws and policies that the government intends to bring in, work with councillors and council staff to figure out how they would affect councils, and then feed back to government if we think there's a better way of achieving what they want to achieve, or if we think it will cost a lot more to do than they're budgeting for.Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!0 -
Tried to think of something more glamourous and acceptable to this board than what I do but then realised my signature would tell everyone that I am not really sewage treatment plant pipe cleaner.I am an IFA (and boss o' t'swings idst)You should note that this site doesn't check my status as an IFA, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser Code of Conduct. Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as financial advice.0

NHS agenda for change was all sorted back out in 2007/2008? Are people still waiting for backpay now?
Agenda for change was agreed in October 2004, I and all other community midwives in my area were G grades prior to this, when rebanded all hospital G grades were given a band 7, all community G grades were given a band 6.
Our appeal was only heard in January of this year, the job assimilation panel rebanded us to a band 7, yet the trust are refusing to pay us and it has been taken to the chief exec twice so far in an attempt to overturn the decision.
There are about 30 community midwives involved each of us owed between 2k and 10k in back pay (depending on where on the G grade scale we were when agenda for change came in).
I am owed about 5-6k plus a 3k increase for this year to put me on the scale I should be on. So yes are a lot of people waiting for backpay and their appeals to be heard.
So the latest is they will cut jobs if they have to pay us! Agenda for change was supposed to be about the job description not the trusts purse strings!
Worse still one of the people trying to overturn the panels decision is the Head of Midwifery! So much for being loyal to your staff! She doesn't think we're worthy of a band 7! Then again she isn't the one doing the home deliveries, or doing free on calls so your colleagues have back up for home deliveries as they will only pay for 1 person to be on call!0 -

I take it new midwifes go in at band 5, and with more experience band 6?
http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/details/Default.aspx?Id=4
Having had a look at this it would appear community midwifes are band 6 as are hospital midwifes?
My aunt was a midwife, she is now a health visitor and im sure she's on band 6. She was a midwife for 15yrs or so.
Bit of a shambles really, i know it was taking it's time back in 2007, i thought it was all resolved now:eek:
Good luck0 -

Newly qualified midwives are a band 5 for a period of 12 months, they automatically get moved to band 6 after 12 months (unless they do something dire!). Similar to the old system you had an E grade for 12 months and then became an F automatically. Then you (if you wished to), applied for a Sisters post which was a G grade (hospital or community). When rebanded all hospital sisters were given a 7 all community sisters a 6.
This agenda for change was supposed to be a fairer system, my cousin is a midwife in Brighton she is a band 7, does 3 on calls a month and has a caseload of 35 women. I am in Wales do 6-8 on calls a month and have a caseload of 110. The neighbouring counties in Wales are also band 7. Is not a fair system as it depends on trust budget rather than work actually done.
Health Visitors again have also had a raw deal, they were G grades and also became band 6 down here but are still awaiting their appeal hearing.
Was supposed to be a nationwide fair system, but it really does depend on location.
It should have been clear cut when it was introduced, instead it was left open to interpretation by managers who in some areas try to cut costs. And now that people are winning appeals they are trying to get out of their responsibilities. I did 3 years training to become a nurse, and a further 18 months to become a midwife, yet I would probably be better off if I had stayed nursing. Midwives and Health Visitors were always graded higher in acknowledgement of the extra training, yet we were all effectively demoted with the new system.
Community staff work on their own with no back up, we deal with emergencies by ourselves, unlike our ward based colleagues, Health Visitors have the added responsibility of child protection issues, which we are absolved from usually 28 days after birth. Yet they say we only warrant a 6. This AfC should have been better thought out.0 -
