I'm the prime minister, and I spend most of my time saving the [STRIKE]world[/STRIKE] banks.

Oh, okay then, I work for one of the Big 4 but I'm most definitely not an accountant - more of a niche consulting role.

    Commiserations & well done.

    What are you doing?
Just project coordinator, some communications stuff, not really sure to be honest. I wasn't listening.

I'll find out when I turn up.

    :)

    It's not rocket science anyway.

Oh - and the rate is 1/3rd of what I was on 8 years ago. So nothing to write home about.

I'm a SSgt in the Army (armour) 14 years on tanks (its great fun blowing things up AND getting paid for it) 4 years doing recconnaissance (sneaky beaky stuff but hated it...blowing things up was more fun) and last couple of years teaching Digital comms to the field Army....

My time is up in a few years and I still can't decide what to do when I leave (if only I could blow things up as a civvi and get paid for it)

PCSO soon to be PC. I honestly don't want to be a PC but I don't want the costs of getting a degree or try another job and suffer the major wage cut/ possibility of unemployment. So I'm off to do a job I dislike for the money and security, like most people I guess.

I too am a PC but unlike MKC, I do want to be one. I enjoy my job and am grateful for the security it brings in these times of redundancies. I know I won't get rich doing this job but at least I have peace of mind that I can pay my bills at the end of each month;)

Demolition? Plenty of unsellable new build tenements could do with knocking down.

I'm a full time PhD statistics student, rough subject area methodology of cancer clinical trials. Also work 6 hours a week as a statistician for a prostate cancer trial, which keeps me nicely in conveniently tax-free pocket money. Fortunately both things based in the same place!
Think we are unlikely to see redundancies. The budget for the entirety of a trial is costed out and allocated in advance and the trial may last years. The funding comes from the treasury and also from cancer charities. Of course charity income may decrease but I don't see the treasury cutting our core budget. We have been steadily growing in terms of numbers in our unit over the past decade; no sign of it letting up yet.
Its really interesting hearing what everyone does. PN congrats on the new job.

My boyfriend's colleague spent years in the army, went to Iraq (first time round), Kosovo etc.
He was an armourer with REME. When he left he decided to join the police, and applied for firearms once he had a few years in. He had the psychometric testing which (apparently) said he was not fit to be in charge of a weapon! Not sure how much of that he elaborates to make it a better story but it's fairly ironic none the less.

Maybe you could get a job in a firework factory ;)

I've heard a few times that the police don't like ex forces in firearms maybe because we're taught to shoot to kill.....and spray bullets wildly while doing it hehe

I don't fancy the Police its to PC for me....I don't do PC

The peace of mind is the best bit for me haha. But yes, I did enjoy being a PCSO for the first year and it's just not for me any more. I don't think I'll enjoy team once my training is done but I plan to make the most of it and I hope to find a nice cushy job somewhere in training or something challenging and interesting like being a SOIT Officer.

I'm not sure. Still young I guess so plenty of time to chase my dreams :)

In dream world I want to save up and buy a cottage in kent / surry out right and then have a mini farm so I can be mostly self sufficient and just write and ebay and live in peace...
    :A
    Saving for my future...
