    Hi all..

Nothing to report from me today, apart from my extreme hunger! :( I'm off to my parents' tonight for tea so hope Mum has made a large sheperd's pie!! :D

Morning sickness - sorry, I didn't see what was said originally, but just wanted to say I had bad nausea (particularly after waking up from an evening nap) from about week eight to eleven, then started actually being sick in the mornings in week twelve to seventeen. I think I'm on day nine now of feeling alright - if I'm okay tomorrow, I've beaten my record! :D In hindsight, I'd much rather have the sickness than the nausea - at least with the sickness it was over and done with! My point is, although not having sickness or nausea is nothing at all to worry about, if you have nausea, the sickness might come later on - don't feel left out, just feel lucky! ;)

Caz, did you hear from your midwife today? Are they going to do anything to help the eviction? :)

Right, got to get ready for tea.. back later! :) xx

ETA: Sorry, I put "week four" - I meant week eight, four weeks after I found out! Only remember it was then as it was from the beginning of Dec and it total wrote off any chance of any xmas shopping after work!

Just thought it necessary to pint out that this case was not purely because she was over due
"The case, known as Re S, concerned a 30-year-old woman admitted to hospital in spontaneous labour. She had ruptured membranes, was six days overdue, and her child probably would have died had she not had a caesarean. The woman, who was unquestionably competent, refused consent on religious grounds. After an emergency hearing, the caesarean was authorised despite the patient’s refusal to consent. The justification given by the judge was that these measures were in the vital interests of the patient and her unborn child."

I think Skinty has previously mentioned(??) that if an emergancy c/s was needed then she would have one, if she hasn't said it I'm confident that she would but she may com and correct me if I'm wrong

Thanks for fleshing out the details Sami.

The reason why the case is so significant legally though is because it was the first time that the UK courts recognised that a fetus had any rights at all prior to the birth, and because it decided that if the mother's actions would (or would be likely to) cause significant harm or death to the fetus that the mother's wishes could and would be overridden. It is a Court of Appeal judgment which means that all judges in the first court of hearing the matter must follow it, as must all judges at first appeal. The only way for a mother therefore to get a different court decision would be to appeal all the way to the House of Lords, or to be able to argue that the facts in her particular case were significantly different so the case shouldn't be followed.

For that reason (speaking as a lawyer not as a mum here) I wouldn't feel confident in advising any mother that they had a right not to be induced if there was strong medical opinion that their baby was at increased risk if they were not. There will be cases of course where the baby is late, and monitoring shows that the placenta is holding up fine, which is a different matter, but as soon as the doctors start to get worried that this isn't any longer the case, then the mum will come under strong pressure to be induced quickly, and if it gets to a critical point she will IMHO be forced to do so by law, whatever her private views on the matter.

Quick thought, r.mac was looking for a changing bag which didn't look like one a while back - probably in Preg Club 2 or 3 now!! I think there were a few suggestions for where to look then :)

Caz, I'm barely cooking this week - parents' tonight, fish and chips out with ex-colleagues tomorrow and pub meal with school friends on Thursday! :D Birthday week, you see ;) Big family meal on Sunday (more for my Grandma's 80th than my birthday, although they're on the same day), then going away for four nights with other friends next week, then going out for tea on the Saturday with college friends! (I'm gonna be so poor - all this is before payday!! :()
