  • R.mac, lovely, thank you for sharing :) (and I know 3 people who have had the blood sample taken from babies head and it hasn't worked... Wonder why they keep trying?!)

Lou, I'm 27 weeks and still desperately trying to sleep mostly on my belly with my leg pulled up (think recovery position) sometimes it's comfortable but it's getting a bit less now... Think it depends on how baby is lying...

Trenery, maybe you will be able to get tax credits for the period your partner is on a reduced income? If baby is due after 6th April you will be entitled to the £190 health in pregnancy grant... But otherwise I don't think there is anything...

And congratulations Helen, you're very welcome to join us... I wasn't quite 4 weeks when I joined... A millenia ago... Once you know your due date, stick yourself on the list (easiest way is to search the thread for EDD2009 and use the first list that pops up... Copy and paste into a new post :))

    Hiya all MSE devotees.

My partner and I are expecting a beautiful little girl in a couple of weeks. Yay!

But, with huge outgoings, it's going to be very very difficult to keep our heads above water. Are finances are ticking along ok, paying off debt as we go, but my partners maternity pay is a bit of a drop in income, as well as not being entitled to any child tax credits, soley based on our income, what about our expenditure? This isn't even accounted for! For someone who as paid in to the system all my working life and not to get the help which others do really annoys me.

Is there anything we can do? Anyone else to turn to for financial support?

    All suggestions welcome...

    Much love MSE

Unfortunately it's very much based on your income - like you we don't qualify for anything other than child benefit or whatever they are called :) (Someone will be along to correct my terminology in a sec ;) ) - on paper we earn far too much to qualify for anything. As a result I have been scrimping and saving since falling pregnant to buy me extra time at home with my baby - the amount I manage to put by will directly reflect in the time I can have at home before returning to work. I know on here at least one poster will be returning to work after 6 weeks maternity leave so unfortunately if your wife can't afford to stay home then she might need to look at returning to work when her 90% pay ends (depending on what her workplace offers).

Edited to correct the benefit available - btw it's £20 a week now I think for the first child - not much but every little helps...

Has anyone ordered from here? I'm trying to figure out their returns policy - do they do free returns? I know you can't return to store :( and I'm unwilling to order if (as well as paying for delivery) I have to pay for any returns....

Tried to buy some faternity clothes on Sat - our New Look doesn't stock (nearest is Hereford), M&S doesn't stock ('cept for bras), debenhams had a weeny bit of Red Herring in - only 1 item in my size and I didn' like it, Dorothy P's have about a dozen items in, all black/ white 'cept for the teal hoody (so I bought that). I even tried Peacocks - didn't like anything from (very small) selection in there. Oh, and H&M - again 2 racks only, only 1 item was just about ok (in my size) but not really. Don't have a mothercare in centre - don't have a next (one up the road from me, currentlt being rebuilt after a fire, but they didn't stock faternity anyway :() Have come to conclusion people in Gloucester aren't meant to be pg!!

Have found some stuff online in m&s will order (quidco) and take trip to out of town Next in Cheltenham - but will have to be next week, otherwise I'll have all 3 kids in tow

love my little man he is amazing :j
  • Oops, lol... Try putting a space between EDD and 2009... probably my mistake... Or you can search back pages but we waffle so much I don't know how far back you'll have to go...

  • Morning ladies - just having some toast before I have a nice long soak in the bath.

McSmiler - so glad that it all came good in the end and that you and Annabel are back home. What a story...it is good to know that even when things go 'wrong' that with the right care everything can turn out well.

About sleeping on your stomach, not something I have been able to do - especially since Bubba learnt to kick the bed if I rest my bump too hard on it - but way back when my mum was advised by the doc to sleep on her tummy to reduce the risk of miscarriage... She had had 2 MC and was then rewarded with me :D

Obv not medical advice (they also advised you to drink guiness back in those days) but I can't see that it cab do any harm and once you can feel it baby will let you know if they don't like it.

I like Logan Mel...I wouldn't discount a name just because it starts with the same letter - all my post is addressed to SL anyway (middle name begins with L!)
