fg, did they give you all those reason in a leaflet, or did they tell them you as well - it doesn't sound like they explained much very well! Seriously, that makes me sooo cross for you, I'd be sat there in my next appointment asking them to explain things properly!
From earlier, I've always tried for a physiological third stage (delivering the placenta myself without synometrine) but never managed it. DD1 I pushed for an hour, squatting on the bed, feeding her as well, and I was so knackered that when they said we'd like you to think about having the injection I just said fair enough. My then-OH cut the cord.
DD2 was a bit of an odd one, again I specified physiological third stage, but that was for an uncomplicated home birth, but I had induction in hospital and because there were a handful of 'worrying' things at the time (calcifying placenta, worries over baby's heartbeat so continuous monitoring, meconium in the waters), when they cut the cord straightaway (I'd wanted to wait until it stooped pulsating) I just said give me the injection because I was a bit worried.
So this time have specified a physiological thrid stage and for OH to cut cord after stopped pulsating. I was interested last time in lotus birth (I make no apologies for this but I understand if anyone thinks it's just a bit grim!) but then-OH after making many concessions (a la this OH for me planning a HB), he flatly overruled me so I didn't push itBut I have put on my birth plan that I might keep the placenta
- although the MW said at her home visit that she wasn't sure of the rules around burying it, which was my plan, as it's deemed human remains and there are special rules around such things - does anyone know about this btw?
I'm all stocked up on baby stuff now, got to organise it by putting it all away, I can't stop nesting!Dealing with my debts!Currently overpaying Virgin cc -balance Jan 2010 @ 1985.65Now @ 703.63

Jo_R Have a search on he last thread for Lotus and you'll find a few pages worth of discussion on lotus birth with lots of links you might find the info u want there
I don't mind the idea of lotus that much I just feel it's not practical for a 2nd baby where 1st baby is a toddler who might prod, poke it etc0 -

Grrrrr grumble grrrr seethe grrrrrrr
Work are now having hissyfits about the amount of time I work from home again - What do we reacon the chances are of my doctor signing me off from work due to extreem hip pain - aggrevated by driving and sitting in the office - at home at least it's managable and I can carry on working. That or stress? Basically we're now not getting a replacement for me and we'll have to restructure the whole department to either farm out work to other departments and let the other guys here cover my work - bear in mind we already have things we don't get done because we're 2 heads short... We'll be down to 1 manager, 1 equivalent to me and 1 a step below us... there should be a manager, 4 of my level and 1 below... So not only will I get increased stress before I go on maternity leave, I'll have tonnes of work to help restructure and knowing that unless business turns around there will be no jobs to come back to because our big clients will have gone elsewhere because they don't like drops in service that things like me not being here will result in because other departments will be unable to carry the extra workload too...
Just !!!!!!!g fed up! I have even offered to come back part time when my 50% pay finishes but only if we could work out a renumeration arrangement AND they agree I can work from home and do the hours as suits me and the baby. Now I'm getting to the point where I just want to tell them to naff off and deal with it themselves and then hand in my notice when I decide to return to work and find a new job... sod them.
Not in a good mood! Want to be signed off sick now and not come back everDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -

I guess you can discharge yourself but they may want baby to stay for a bit, especially if it';s the middle of the night.
Yep - you can discharge yourself at any point after the birth - there have been cases where a mother has gone into the delivery suite complete with car seat (to emphasise the point!)
They (the hospital) can call social services if they feel there is a need. I suspect that second and subsequent time parents would have a better response to quick self discharge than a first timer.
You do not have to have your baby checked over by a paedeatrician (sp) before leaving (think of HBs) although that is the common reason given as to why you can't leave. You can return for a newborn check with a paed.
Obviously if there are any problems it would probably be wise to stay in for the check.
Mary Cronk & Angela Horn (I think they are both independent mw) have some articles on the net which state the above
I'm not advising anyone should do this - but it is a little known option.
