And neither would my consultant recommend it as its no.6 so I am at risk of bleeding. Don't get the fat on hips thing as I thought the fat was outside your hips? And why does being fat give you a higher risk of bleeding, mine is 'cos they say the womb may not contract in the same way so I just overdose on raspberry leaf to tone it up. Sorry, lots of questions but I'm just curious.
I was given a list of the things I'm at increased risk of because of my weight:
- Blood clots
- Needing to be induced
- Failed induction
- C-Section (planned and emergency)
- Anaesthetic problems
- Forceps or Ventouse birth
- Shoulder dystocia
- Serious tears
- Infections
- Heavy cleeding
- difficulty breastfeeding
- pressure area damage
- staying in hospital longer
- dying in childbirth
- being seriously ill after childbrith
- Large baby
- Small baby
- Early baby
- Stillbirth
- Neonatel death
No-one has explained why, and the leaflet doesn't give any more information. Its basically 'You are a bad woman for getting pregnant while being so fat and it is all going to go wrong' leaflet.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
Feelie:
- Large women are more likely to suffer from diabetes and blood pressure problems in pregnancy, which might affect your decision regarding home birth. There is also an increased risk of shoulder dystocia, but it is not clear whether this persists independently if you do not have gestational diabetes. Apart from these issues, though, weight alone should not be the deciding factor. Whatever your weight, you can still make an informed decision to plan a homebirth, as did Rachel, Helen and Carolyn. A wonderful site packed with information on pregnancy for large women is Plus-Size Pregnancy, by KMom.
