Hi Nooney - she will be entitled to free prescriptions and dental care but usually you don't get the form for that until she's had her check in appointment (around 8-10 weeks) and then it arrives when the NHS get round to processing it.
There is also a bunch of brochures that she will get when she goes for that appointment about what she is entitled to - it's not much really until the baby is born but new this year is a health in pregnancy grant which she can apply for when she's at 25 weeks - I think from memory it's something like £190 but someone else should be able to tell you that.
Maternity pay etc will depend on how long she's worked. You might want to have a look through this site: Statutory Maternity Pay
Is her partner around to help support her financially with the baby? Does she have her own place, live at home etc? If she lives away from home on her own then she might be elligible for support once the baby arrives with rent/council tax if she has no other means of income. If her partner lives with her then it will depend on what he earns too...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Oh and I think there is some other thing she can apply for later in pregnancy to ensure she eats enough fresh fruit and veg if the household income is very low but again that will be in the literature that the midwife will give her at the booking in appointment.
And ofcourse tell her to go and make sure she's taking folic acid every day ASAP if she hasn't been already!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Morning all.
Four days left at work  I need to take some of my own advice and make sure it is only 4 days!! So much to do and so little time so I keep thinking I could do a couple of days next week
In my heart I know that there is still loads to do at home sorting out the nursery etc and that kind of stuff is much more tiring than coming to work so it will take me longer than I think (doesn't everything these days!!) but sneaking thoughts of 'just a few days more' keep entering my head!
Bless you elle for remembering!
Whoever said about Beamish - it's a fab place but not sure how much fun it would be when pregnant, there is a lot of walking involved...
Best place to visit with kids in that neck of the woods (or anywhere) IMHO is the Forbidden Corner (which bizarrely DSS was talking about this weekend) we went about 2 years ago when DSS was 7 and we all absolutely adored it.

Has anyone else got rib-flare?
I can't wait for the head to engage and I can have a bit more space for my lungs!;)
Sorry to those of you struggling with unsympathetic OHs and DHs. I read that sometimes it's cos they are jealous of losing our love and support as we prepare to give it to the baby - bless 'em! Not great when all we want is for someone to unload the dishwasher because we get bile in our mouths on every bend down! (or is that just my story?!:o:o:o)
MFD, you're a couple of days nearer than me, much respect to you on the scrubbing floors:beer:, are you finding it tricky to get back up again?!;)
Love to you all,
Weezl x

elle - hope you are feeling a bit better and the headache lifts.
nooney - I think if your DIL's household income is low then they might be entitled to the surestart grant? Sorry I don't know what the criteria is - search the forums/web for info on surestart and I am sure it will all pop up.0 -

Weezl - getting up and down generally is tough but the worst bit of scrubbing the floors was the pain of my poor knees on the stone! And then knocking the mop bucket over twice and having to re-mop-up the water whilst hubby sat on the sofa with a glass of wine!! (I stropped for about 5 minutes then went for a cuddle!)
I haven't loaded the dishwasher for ages now (maybe the odd bit here and there) I just pile it all up neatly and wait for hubby to get the hint!please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
Morning, workmen here, carpets gone from top level and floors being done. I'm hiding in my bedroom with the laptop, just as well it's the other side of the house. Spose I'd better offer a cup of tea now.
Elle, how's your head, sounds bad?
Hope everyone else is ok?Too many children, too little time!!!0 -
morning ladies,
think i read all the posts from the weekend by way of catch up as i was lurking about sometimes
congrats to r.mac and 3onitsway on their arrival of their pink bundles
welcome to the newbies
hugs and loves to those that needed them
can any of you lovely ladies make some recommendations re TENS machines. i hadn't thought too much of them but the midwife at my parentcraft class was a big advocate of them and said they can be used from 38 weeks onwards (i think) for back pain (which i am suffering greatly from) and is a good way to get used to using them.
i know you can hire them, but there isn't much difference in that and buying one. i have started looking at the boots website, but would of course love some reviews.0 -
Hi ladies, just had a big shock!!
Remember me posting about a friend who was taken into hospital last week because her cervix had opened and she was bleeding??
Well, at 27 weeks and 1 day, she gave birth to her little boy yesterday in the early hours. He weighed in at 2lb 6. Mum and baby are doing well. Baby is in intensive care in special care baby unit. He is breathing on his own, the staff have said he is big for his 'age' and they have been told to take one day at a time as there is a long way to go before baby can go home.
Oh bless them all, I hope baby will pull through this!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I hired mine from the local lloyds chemist. Had everything with it, got advice from the pharmacist and I knew if anything went wrong they were 5 mins away with another. Cost us £10 but that was 5 years ago.Too many children, too little time!!!0
