However, for 99% of accidents, the safety gear will make a difference to a larger or lesser degree.

oh no more stats and not even the ones i asked for 3 timesremember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice0 -
all this safety talk is nonsense we are talking about a very small 3 door fiesta who wants to be in the back of that in a crashremember it is nice to be important

Exactly!
At last you talk sense. That's why you need great active and passive safety to protect the humans (often children) carried in the back (or the front).
You would NOT want to be in a 10, or 5 year old one, and would choose the new model over the previous one (which answers the 18 month question).
Real people get very badly injured and die, so take care!0 -

i think you could write some great horror movies, why not try a career in holywood.
if this is the case then we should maybe wait for the next "safer" model to come out, or maybe the next one after that,or after that,or after that.
meantime everyone, dot go out without being properly wrapped up in cotton wool just incase, you never know when a 5 year old fiesta might get you....work permit granted!0 -

Some people simply do their best for themselves and their family. You simply choose the safest car you can find that fits the bill.
Really, it is not rocket science. You have to live in today, not tomorrow. However, the next model is likely to be safer, correct.0 -

i would think the driver matters more to safety than the actual car....work permit granted!0 -

Driver certainly matters, but who knows what accident will happen to them. Maybe another car will crash into YOU? Maybe someone will heavily rear end you or smash into the side through a red light. Maybe someone else falls asleep?
Whatever, really, moving humans at speed in cars is intrinsically dangerous, The danger should be mitigated as much as possible.
Can you imagine the terrible thing if a family member is killed or injured? Anything that reduces that likelihood, must be a good thing. From safer cars, safer roads, safer drivers.0 -
