  • By the way, don't forget another big pollutant... noise!

    car-lease.jpgI SAID "NOISE!"

Are you deaf? New cars are now required to meet Europe-wide noise limits. These have been progressively reduced from 82 decibels (dB(A)) in 1978 to the current limit of 74 dB(A) established in 1996.

This means it would take 7 new vehicles to make the same amount of noise as a vehicle that just meets the pre-1978 limits. When looking at the figures it should be noted that off-road vehicles are allowed to be 1dB(A) louder, as are direct injection diesels and these are cumulative i.e. the limit for an off-road vehicle with a direct injection diesel is 76 dB(A).

If we all drove older cars, the increase in noise in urban areas would be considerable. This is often ignored, but contributes to quality of life. Like atmospheric pollutants, noise affects everyone (apart from deaf people), not just the car user themselves. It is extremely selfish not to be aware of anti-social noise created by your old banger car. You should slow down to avoid frightening groups of hooded youths.

Seriously, you are saving pennies, but costing other people their quality of life with your noise, pollutants, lead, lack of safety, and bothersome luddite attitute sitting in your banger, listening to your cassette tapes.

I may attack users of brightly-coloured cars, next.
  • i drive a 16 month old car that is crap on fuel and is in a high tax class

well I think that just proves how important it is to be very careful about your choice of vehicle.
There is plenty of information on the internet about the relativity of various cars performance including government stats.

I would suggest one always chooses a car with your head and not your heart.

Fortunately for car manufacturers this is seldom the case in the publics choice of cars.;)

It is very annoying the way people insist on buying what they want, instead of what they should. :)

i have chosen a diesel focus for commuting
a 2.5 turbocharged one for fun and destroying the ozone
and an old escort for putting the dogs in and bashing in to new cars
remember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice ;)

  • my dog cost twice as much as the old escort but i have to admit he does let off more gases
remember it is nice to be important

  • ive got a 5 year old focus, i bought it brand new, with ford priveledge discount, its paid and i now own the car and dont need to pay anything towards it, i maintain it myself doing more maintenance than most folk would to thier car,i dont mess with it,its entirely standard (mechanically). all i need to do is purchase the parts if anything goes wrong. and the parts are usually cheap.nothing major gone wrong with it so far.
i dont see how me paying £200 a month for a new focus from you could save me any money? i would own nothing in the end and just hand the car back.
where as if i run my car and put £200 in my pocket every month i can save this to buy anything i need, but if the car started to cost £200 a month in parts then of course i would get rid of it,who wouldnt? but the fact is it doesnt, and probably wont for the foreseeable future.

If I deal with these points, you will get very annoyed. You should take care with that old car. They a) hurt more when they crash, b) stop slower, c) go slower, d) pollute more.

    a. Sure do, hitting these modern heavy cars is a pain.

    b. Nope

    c. Nope

    d. The CAT which was brought into save lives now produces a gas which the government taxes people on because it is bad.

My car has no CAT, it produces lovely carbon monoxide.

Think of that whilst you kill the planet with your CO2.
  • i love the smell of a petrol car with no cat on a cold morning
the best smell in the word
remember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice ;)
