Yep if you use the whole mix and cook it slowly in a small pan - is a bit stodgy though, I prefer the thin 'omelletes'0 -
I agree with everyone else about the milk, soya is the best for in hot drinks, rice milk is just a waste of time. Our supermarket has started stocking the cafe soya - the stuff they use at Costa in the brown carton, that's great for use in hot drinks but DH isn't as keen for other uses. Great if you'll get through it though.
thanks for the vol-au-vent filling link.0 -
Thanks for all the replies about soya milk and coffee
I bought the chilled soya milk rather than UHT today and put it in my cup first this time as advised - it worked! No curdled mess and the coffee tasted really lovely.:T0 -
I like rice milk in cereal but I agree that soya milk is better in hot drinks.:)0

Alot of information to take in. But useful advice! My mum is a vegan and she regularly tries to encourage me to be one too. But I'm bit of a foodie so I love all varieties, so the thought of giving up some types of food isn't something I'd like to do ... but who knows in the future I may think differently. It definitely is something you need to do mentally as well as physically. Thanks for all the tips and advice tho, it may come in handy one day0

I bought some soya milk the other day (think it was UHT Alpro) and whilst it is fine in tea, it curdles so badly in coffee - really gross. I've tried black coffee but it's just not going to happen! Can anyone recommend a decent milk alternative that tastes ok and doesn't go all yuk in coffee?
Thanks
Hi Popcorn,
I tried all of the milks...soya, oat, hemp, coconut, rice and almond - fresh and UHT - and have settled very happily with Blue Diamonds (unsweetened) Almond Breeze I buy it from the UHT section in Tesco at £1.49 a litre, and at the moment its priced at just a £1, bargain!0 -
I am not at home for a while so can't give specific examples but the use of Chipotle and liquid smoke etc - don't have a cat in hells chance of buying these ingredients where I live and remember the Caulipots recipe - it's only cauliflower and potatoes but takes her so long to make them.
But I have her Veganomican book which I do use.0 -
GreenFairy wrote: »My favourite of the ND milks so far is alpro light from the chiller cabinet. Can't find any reason it's called light apart from the fact it's unsweetened. Works well in hot drinks, on cereal and in baking. I've even drunk it plain and it's not half bad!
It's about half the calories of ordinary unsweetened soya milk!
I use it in cereal and cooking but can't get on with it in hot drinks. I like quite 'milky' tea and find the alpro light just too thin and watery.0 -
When I went into Tesco today they didn't have any of the Alpro milk I usually buy, so I thought I'd try the Vivesoy. It works fine in coffee.
I'm going to try some of the other flavours next time I go shopping.0 -
We have a Jordanian cafe not far from us, one day we had lovely flavorful broad beans there served as a mezze. I tried to duplicate them at home as my vegan daughters liked them so much - this is the closest recipe I found. We used frozen baby broad beans from T*sco and ate with warm pitta bread - was delish and as is so often the case though I made it for the vegans was scoffed by resident non vegans too.
