Hello! I've been veggie all my life and have never eaten meat and I'm trying to be vegan again, I tried for three months before Christmas and then fell off the wagon over Christmas but I want to try it again.

Today was my cooking day. I am lazy with a capital L and so when the urge to cook takes me I cook loads.

    Today I cooked:

16 portions of lentil & chickpea curry (my current favourite meal)
6 portions of veggie sausage & butterbean hotpot
4 portions of lentil bolognaise sauce
6 portions of 3 bean chilli
4 portions of chickpea & bean stew

So that's my food sorted for the next month :j
    Only took 3 hours too.
Means that when Mr s gets home for work he cooks whatever meaty 'delight' he is having and chucks one of my portions mthe freezer in the microwave to heat up. Then all I have to do each day is throw some potatoes/rice/pasta in a pan.
Sparklewing, I would love, love, love these recipes, they sound amazing!
  • Yesterday's food

    Breakfast:
    Porridge mix, OJ & tea

Snack: One small apple and one slice of fake beef (Redwood's Cheatin')

Lunch: Open sandwiches - homemade bread, fake beef, cucumber & tomatoes.

    Dinner: Sunday roast
Homemade 'meatloaf' (adapted from Best Veggie Burgers on the Planet by Joni Marie Newman). It's mostly made with TVP, vital wheat gluten and flavouring things. Not my favourite to be honest as I found it too sweet and insufficiently savoury but OH loved it.
    Fat-free 'roast' potatoes
    Carrot & parsnip mash
    Brussel sprouts
    Leeks in white sauce
    Gravy (bisto)

    Vegan shopping

Thought it might be handy for some people to get an idea of the sort of food I buy so I've copied over my shopping list for an online shop I'm getting tomorrow.

Please bear in mind the following:
1 - I'd normally order lots of tinned beans and pulses but I have plenty of dried in the cupboard so I'll be making an effort to use them instead.
2 - I've already got a fair amount of veg in the fridge and freezer so this is just a top-up vegetable wise.
3 - This isn't 'everything' I buy for week/fortnight. Some things will last months and others will be eaten immediately.

    Chopped tomatoes
    Tomato puree
    Passata
    Pak choi
    Spinach
    Mushrooms
    Walnuts
    Brazils
    Vegetable oil (rapeseed)
    Dairy free spread
    Soya milk
Hazelnut milk (not my usual purchase as it's pricier than soya but I had a voucher)
    Orange juice
    Tea
    Redbush tea
    Baked beans
    Potatoes
    Porridge oats
    Sliced green beans
    Broccoli
    Cucumber
    Dessicated coconut
    Cornmeal
    Vinegar
    Tomato ketchup
    Barbeque sauce

I'll be popping into town later to the Indian supermarket and Lidl (they're next door to each other) where I will also get -
    Aubergines
    Curry leaves
    TVP
    Cherry tomatoes
    Salad

I hope this is in some way helpful. I know that when I first when vegan I was really interested to know what sort of things other vegans had in their cupboards and such like.

Breakfast: muesli and sliced banana and apple juice to replace milk

    Snack: apple

Lunch:homemade bread with a Sosmix burger (my mum can seem to get old style stuff in Wales, I need to double check ingredients though as it comes in clear bag, so it might not be vegan...) I love sosmix as I grew up eating it!

    Snack: Almonds and sunflower seeds.

Dinner tonight: Homemade veg pizza, I will have it cheese-less, the rest of the family will have it with cheese.
  • I've never seen old sos-mix stuff anywhere. Whereabouts does she get it?

I get the Asda sausage mixes which are pretty nice but the price has gone up so much that I don't really buy it any more.

It's in a little health food shop in West Wales (Cardigan)
Apparently the health food shop buys it in bulk and package it in clear cellophane. I'm going to need to check if it is fact vegan or not though as somewhere on here up thread somebody mentioned that the 'new' sosmix in the cardboard box you can buy isn't vegan. I know this thread is quite old now so whether or not that is still the case I don't know.

Did you know you can buy sosmix on-line? I guess if its not vegan though it would be no good for you.

Edited to add: just found it here http://www.alternativestores.com/ethical-shop/Food-and-Grocery/Burger-Sausage/Sosmix-350g-bag/prod_3878.html
It says its for vegetarians and vegans!
