Hi Rince,
I know this isn't the same situation as yours but last year I cancelled my Ancestry subscription and took out another one via Quidco using a different email address. Ancestry sent me an email confirming cancellation and said I would be able to access any information saved but would not have the search facilities etc (unless they were the free ones). My Tree & all the items saved in My Shoebox are still there and I can view them any time.

Hi justevi, has it let you use your family tree that you'd previously done on the UK site ? My memebership runs out next week and ancestry are going to take the renewal cost from my credit card unless I close my account. So if I tell them I don't want to renew and go for this offer, will I still be able to access my family tree ?
Thanks.
I was able to access my tree. I went via the link, logged into my account and then paid the discounted fee. It just came up with the normal 'upgrade page' but instead of the UK page it was the Australia one. So I now have full access again an access to my tree all under the same log on.
When I recently went back via Qudico (for one month) I joined back on my old user log in and had no problems doing that either.I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100 -
I personally dont have my tree on ancestry just on genesreunited. I remember quite a bit of discussion about it on a mailing list many years ago when I first started my research. The experienced members didn't recommend it as, if I remember rightly, it wasn't secure and could be freely accessed by anyone and they were saying that all their research was being copied. Might be ok now, I dont know, I just have never looked into it as I am happy just to use genesreunited.0

They do usually tell you in plenty of time that your next payment is nearly due.0 -

Thanks to everyone for all the information. I'm going to try and take up the offer using my existing log in details. If it doesn't work then I'll set up another account
Thanks again
It worked using my existing details. Thanks again0 -
To easily find a spouses maiden name assuming you know their first name...
Look up the marriage on FreeBMD as normal and click on the page number, it'll then cross-reference all people who also appear on that page. Depending on the year there are normally only two or four marriages per page on a registry so it should be easy to spot which spouse relates to you.
If they both have the same first name you may be able to track it further by comparing places of birth etc in the census records (tho that probably needs an ancestry subscription).0 -
Thanks for this!!! I just joined and had been toying with the idea for a while, already use Genesconnected but I think Ancestry is better. It even let me use my original account name from a trial I had years ago.
