Failure and bitterness.

Well I am older than many here and have my little house mortgage free. Bitter, not really, cheesed off, yes. Having sat back and watched the stupidity of the housing market for that last 10 years hasn`t been a joke. Watching people getting into so much personal debt was quite astounding. Listening to the lie upon lie from our government has been distasteful.
So much of the carp we are experiencing now could have been averted. To think of billions of pounds doing nothing, tied up in over inflated property that is straining many people to keep up the repayments.
I think many youngsters have the right to be bitter being fed this trash about house prices only go up and all the other bullsh!t that has been the mantra of the last decade.
The truth is now out people. Gone were the days of thrift and prudence. It`s now spend what you havn`t got to save what`s left of an economy in crisis, like many havn`t been doing that for the last 10 or so years?
And to those that have put by savings and pensions. A sorry state that all is.
Oh well, what do I know about it?0 -
I think there is a very big difference between single mothers and teenage mothers. Not all single mothers see their children as dolls! (of course neither do all teenage mothers) To suggest that all single parent families have miserable lives was a rather naive comment from maryb. There are many, many people in this world who became pregnant and had a child in a stable relationship which then broke down. Becoming a single parent isn't something that can be forseen in many circumstances.
My best friend at school's parents were divorced when she was 3. Her Mother was the headteacher at our school, and they had a lovely life, her and her two older brothers. Her mother was not this "cham scum" single mother that everyone seems to harp on about. Incidentally her Father was absent from the divorce onwards (he went to Japan or somewhere like that and married a girl half his age - I used to hear my Mum and her Mum gossiping about it!), and her Mother never remarried, and therefore was a single Mum for the rest of her upbringing.
Yes. We're really talking about the complete spectrum, except that some posters are fixated on the little piece of it that gets them personally wound up.0 -
I'd normally agree with you, but I think someone who labels people with depression as 'lazy scum' actually is rather unintelligent. Intelligence could be defined as having the capcity to reason and understand and a comment such as this shows none of that.
Again, 'depression' a word bandied about. It may have a medical definition but is often used to cover a multitude of different feelings.0 -

I obviously did not make myself clear. I was certainly not talking about every single mother - I'm the child of one myself. I was saying that it was cruel in the past to make unmarried girls who became pregnant give up their babies because there was no support for them. But if the fact that there is support available now to teenage girls makes it seem like an attractive option which becomes a positive choice then that is wrong too and is likely to result in unhappinessIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Oh, sorry, did I take it out of context then?
You're comment above is correct, but the OP was using it very clearly along with the 'bad back brigade' slur to assert that people who don't work due to certain physical and mental illnesses are 'lazy scum'.0 -
I earn £21,000 a year before tax. Hardly the most lucrative job in the world, is it? Less than most teachers, nurses, police officers, fire officers, traffic wardens, McDonalds managers, etc etc etc.
I am afraid I don't feel any sense of guilt for taking £21K a year of tax payers money for doing my job, and the responsibilities that the job comes with.
If you believe it to be such a well-paid career that you clearly begrudge paying taxes towards, perhaps I should forward you the details for applying for medicine via UCAS, then you too could pay your own way through 6 years of university, taking endless exams and working ridiculous hours, all for the grand sum of £21,000 a year. Tempting?
LOL, and in the long term youll be pulling what? 60, 70, 80k am i even getting warm yet.:rotfl:

At the time of writing this had had 24 thanks. One of the most simplistic, pointless, cliched and spiteful posts I've read for ages.
"Stop taxing me and give [sic] to scum ".
It makes me laugh how so many people on this site think life is oh so black and white. The hollier than thou getting stuck in to the 'scum'. Because you've never made a single mistake in your life, have you? And god forbid the 24 who thanked that post ever find themselves with depression or some other form of mental illness and find themselves looking for support from outside their family. Oh, of course, how silly of me, mental illness is laziness isn't it, and you lot aren't lazy are you?
This will turn in to a mega-rant in a minute, so I'm going to stop and get a chocolate biccy from the kicthen.
I know (suprisingly ) 2 people who have a free car cos of depression on motability one of them hasnt even got a driving license, the other has a soft top astra sporty thing.
Neither of them have any intention of changing the situation because, quote "I got a new car thats free"
You are paying for that car btw.
Also the one who hasnt got a license is signing on and working too
you are also paying for his dole tooHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The one where you showed us Dithering Dad is a complete liar. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0 -

Apologies, I do agree with you.
What I'm trying to say is that one word/condition can be used to mean a lot of different things.
Unfortunately, people with bad backs and depression are likely targets for doubters because they are conditions that can't be observed and are therefore some of the easiest 'complaints' to be off work with if someone is so inclined.0 -

Two letters - DD
What is it you do with your life that's so meaningful you think that Doctors should (pay to) study for years on end, work for nowt, put up with a load of crap and more stress and pressure than any office-bound old grunt will ever know and not mention it?
It's all well and good to express your views, no matter how different, on the forum. But some posters (with multiple personality disorders - you know who you are!) take pleasure in personally attacking others when they happen to state something about themselves.
Pathetic.I'll have some cheese please, bob.0
