Does anyone remember Greenwoods menswear- not sure if national but certainly all over the north west used to sell, "grandad clothes" tweed caps, cords, nice cream v neck jumpers, and very smart shirts.
We had a Greenwoods store but it definently wasn't a menswear the one we had. It was what was known locally as a 'tick shop'. It sold loads of stuff - clothes, household goods and other stuff. All could be bought on credit, with a VERY high interest rate.
I remember my friend started working there after leaving school and telling some posh folk we met that she worked in the 'tick shop' in town. They sat for ages trying to work out where the local clock shop was. :rotfl: :rotfl:Dream as if you'll live forever - live as if you'll die today0 -
We've still got Greenwoods in our town centre.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

Lunn Poly travel agents before they became Thomson!
They were called something else before they were called Lunn Poly, can't remember what though?2011: £10 Sports Direct Voucher, Peppa Pig Wii Game, Trivial Pursuit Card Game, £100 Chat magazine win, Dance workout dvd, Grease wii game,0 -
Lunn Poly was so called from the mid 1960's until (I think 2004) when it just became Thomson, who owned it from the 1970's anyway.
Prior to the 60's though I haven't a clue if or what it was called - AFAIK it was always that. Well, apart from in the 1890's when some Mr Lunn geezer opened up a T.A's!
That's what I (as a now ex T.A!) was told! Boring info or what?!!!0 -
I worked at Going Places too and look what happened to that!
Oh yes and I worked at Etam, Snob, Bacons shoes (now soon to shut 'Priceless Shoes') and many hotels and pubs which have all gone down the pan! Am I a jinx or what?!!! - Sorry, B&Q - it's prob gonna be curtains for you soon! :rotfl:0 -
Oh yeah - and Glyn Webb and 'Do-It-All' - They've both shut down too! Ours didn't become 'Focus' - it just closed! And our Glyn Webb burnt down! Oops!!!0

Ahh seven eleven! Slurpees on hot summer days and just as good in freezing cold winters, and the microwave burgers. Perfect for the late night out when nowhere else was open! Wow that brought back memories!
Anyone remember Bourne and Hollingsworth? It's now the Plaza on Oxford Street.
Olympus Sport at Oxford Circus, think it got turned into a Tesco for a bit.
The Rediffusion store near Picaddilly Circus.
I'm sure that What she wants store turned into Primark in Brighton and nothing much changed, just a change of name. That was a good few years ago.
I remember Index stores were always inferior to Argos.0 -
